The KonMarie method

Mr VP has Kondoed his shoes which was a very difficult category for him. It only resulted in three pairs leaving the house but all.of the remaining pairs have been wiped over and put back nice and tidy.
DD2 (19) has started to kondo her clothes because she has so many they do not fit in her two wardrobes and 5 drawer c.o.d
It is very true that if you start to use the konmarie method the other members of the household will naturally start to come on board.
Off to Cornwall on Saturday so no more kondoing for me for a couple of weeks. This is probably a good thing because it will give Mr VP a break from it. He does not let go of things easily and a lot of things have departed the house in the last two weeks.
It is very inspiring reading about everyone's progress. Keep up the good work. :TI am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.

Guess where I'm sitting? - in my new study :j
It's all just come together. I remembered I had a really robust folding table stored under the stairs - that's now my desk. And I've set up a lovely little work station. There's still a lot of stuff in here that shouldn't be but it's not in my eye-line and it will be gone at some point soon. When it is I will post a photo.
The added bonus is that there were lots of bits scattered around the place - printer, papers, etc that are now housed in my study so it's made all the other rooms a bit less cluttered. Feeling really satisfied :A.Shifting my energy for 20200 -
Loft today as got to go up anyway as remembered all the big scatter cushions are up there go with my sofas that are going today. So thats another bin bag gone:) Also I have a leather scratch kit and cleaning kit which cost me about £40  That I never got round to using (as I couldnt find it ) so will give them that too as I am sure they can use it. Also a new throw still in the packet that really does not bring me joy will ask if they can use that.
What I never said was that my DH has been out of work since Feb when his contract finished and out of the Blue he has a interview today for a really good job with a Danish company :T
So I am keeping my fingers crossed and hope our new positive attitude and the KonMari factor plays a part
Good luck to everyone and keep smiling
Mav x
I hope your DH's interview went well and his Kondo positivity came sparkling through!
Had a laugh over the £40 scratch kit! Yesterday, in the DIY komono, I found Liquid Nails... so old that, even though it had never been used (yes, you're right - I couldn't find that when I needed it!), it had set solid! I think there are going to be mass burials at my house for items that have died in storage, as I continue.
Today, didn't start well. Doc's appointment. As I pottered around, trying to get my brain operating, before I beginning kondoing a carrier bag of books for charity, I suddenly had a thought. My regular appointment is half eleven, but something made me check the time in my diary.
Oops! It was changed this month, to ten o five! Luckily, (MK woo?) I still had enough time to get ready and get there 15 minutes early! And then, the next person called in, did not appear, so I got 'done' early!
Afterwards, I kondoed a full-English in the cafe that accepts the books for the RNLI, but didn't get mine today!I also acquired  4 smallish, sturdy boxes for donating books.
I didn't get much done today, but I kondoed 2 underskirts, plus 4 pairs of trainer socks, which I can't stand wearing and which shouldn't have been in that drawer anyway. Hmm, might swap the contents of some drawers around.
Later, I re-purposed the left-over roast chicken into a herby stew and made myself a long-promised rice pudding! (Both kondoed now!)
Now, I'm debating whether to kondo a box of books, or read one! :rotfl:Needs, NOT wants!
No food waste since November 2010. :j

Hello all
Glad to see all the small and big KD that is going on. Even though I am not a fully fledged convert due to not reading the book I do feel a certain calmness and thank everyone for the tips that are helping me pave the way for when I start.
Today I feel I have been doin one step forward and two back. Furniture has not been collected from back yard as promised by council. Gets me that they wonder why fly tipping is so bad, the fact they don't show does not even cross their mind! Rang area councillor and she understood exactly what I meant and I know it will now go tomorrow because she will use her contacts. She has asked me if I will document it all and I said no problem as apparently there have been a few cases now!
Went to return a parcel that had a prepaid sticker and post office last would not take it. Have now found out she was wrong so have to go back.
Work has been stressed due to exam time. It was actually nice coming home to dd desperate to try a blueberry smoothy as aparently they are good for revising for exams and then getting a text to tell me how expensive they are at the spar and would it be cheaper at tesco?!
Off to get ready to watch bones so I can unwind!
NEED TO CONFESS.. didn't watch bones. Found book just over a fiver on kindle and had a e voucher from scanning shopping so been reading! I have in the wardrobe a jumper from uni some 20 years ago and that box of clothes that one day I will? fit into. The book is already speaking to me!Don’t put it down - put it away!

Hi everyone, do you mind if join in a bit? I read Marie's book 2 weeks ago, after stumbling across it on Pinterest - and I instantly knew it would be a good 'fit' for me. I used to be super disciplined about a clutter free, minimalist life, but in the last couple of years I have been doing more paid work, and the clutter has crept up. Now I'm on a mission to re-find my zen!
So far I have Kondoed (number in brackets is the black binbags of trash / donate produced):
My clothes and shoes (6:eek:)
DD clothes and shoes (2)
DS1 and DS2 clothes (1.5)
Blankets and bedding (3 big blankets)
My office (0.5)
The airing cupboard and tumble dryer cupboard (0.5)
plus 2 boxes of books - I have not really started on books yet, but they were part of the office.
Next on the hitlist are:
The files in my office
My sewing stuff and fabric
I'm so pleased with how this is going. In particular I'm really enjoying not having to deal with mementos - I'm just stacking them somewhere to deal with all in one go. I think this will be helpful, but I'm leaving it to the end, as Marie suggests. My sewing things are hidden here and there through the house, and I have now ordered a nice chest to put them all in - I think this will mean I can actually use them more too! And I will reduce them to they fit nicely in the chest.
My kids are SO pleased with their neat Kondoes drawers - they have been being very careful about not messing them up - and my DH is also talking about clearing his wardrobe, which is a big deal :T0 -
Welcome, sushistar, and other people decloaking and thinking about decloaking. The more the merrier.
What I'm finding so wonderful about the KM method is that it spreads from one member of the household to the other almost like a virus. Without lots of badgering and arguing, which can all too often accompany attempts to change each others' behaviours. That's nigh-miraculous, IMO.
I've been proper poorly these past few days with a stinking cold, so haven't achieved a lot beyond going to the day job, eating and sleeping. Did notice in passing that a couple of my cloth hankies are starting to go to holes, so they can go through the laundry and into the ragbag. Also transferred the scribbled list of the contents of my airing cupboard, made when I put it back together after March's flood, neatly into a notebook.
With category headings in ink and the items in pencil. Because several items are on their way towards the ragbag and the aim over time is to have a muchly-reduced inventory. I have two tea-towels 'on the go', plus one pillowslip, and a couple of sheets. Will be concentrating the wear and tear on a very few items from each category, and then getting them outta here.
Will be going up to the polling station by 7 am and afterwards kondo-ing a polling card...............:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Morning fellow Konverts
iQueen you just had me thinking about the dried up liquid nails I do hope my scratch kit wasnt the same
Well the sofas went at 10am yesterday including the scatter cushions etc down from the loft the scratch kitand the new throw which didnt bring me any sort of joy. The charity were really pleased and they thought they may have a buyer who has been on their list waiting for this style.
DH interview went well and he seemed to feel very positive but wont find out until next week as they are interviewing 25  for this one job !!! So wont get our hopes up but will be opened minded and what will be will be
On To KonmariLoft done yesterday and finished bags of junk gone 3 grotty old duvets and old pillows all packed up in bags nicely (which I wouldnt even give to the dog) I dont think they are even mine and could have been there when we moved in :rotfl:Boxes from things we do not have anymore so another 6 bin bags out of the house.
I have kept up there 2 storage boxes which is stuff for our village fete in Aug and (signs etc) 2 boxes of winter stuff (mine) I know I know
could get them in the wardrobe drawers etc but cant see the point.
But that is it
Day spent cleaning windows paint work etc as no sofa in the lounge did a really deep spring clean which is still not finished but will plod on today and new sofas coming at lunch time today.
Will also go down and vote at some point. Also go down my dads to help him sort out for a bootsale :eek: I said lets take it all to charity but no he wants to do a bootsale so as we all know that will be hanging around for years :rotfl:But at least its not in my newly Kondo'd house
All I can say is any lurkers reading this come and join the Konverts as this really works,Clears your head, frees up your time, makes you think, Feel good about yourself, confront your past, your life and what really mattersSo give it a go I for one will never go back to my old ways

Morning all - finishing Kondoing a pile of marking.
:T
Konverted my hairdresser yesterday - after Kondoing some hair
House looks a veritable bombsite as we have finished clearing DDs bedroom ready for painting on Saturday. She is coming home for the weekend tomorrow (even though she's been threatened with a paintbrush- and her room is going to become her brother's), I am kind of hoping she might work through some of the [STRIKE]cra[/STRIKE] er items of hers piled up in the conservatory - cuddly toys (all squished together in a plastic bag, noses flat on the side - looks quite horror film-y) and shoes. They are do-able at least. I am going to work on the "setting them free" line.
Once her room is done for J, we can move him in next week - it can be distraction from the GCSEs which are starting on Tuesday (which was a shock, i had kind of thought they were a week later - good job he realised. :rotfl:) I am hoping he will kondo some stuff in the process. A lot of it is kiddy stuff - light sabre, anyone? How about 2? or 3? Then his room is being painted for her - she is nearly 19 and wants a Captain America theme!! We have promised she can as she has agreed to the move. Two whole rooms Kondoed in a month :T But as it is GCSE season, I am aware i can't pressure him into making decisions he isn't ready for - if he doesn't want to do it, I will store it elsewhere until after - it's only a month. But it ain't just going back in without him going through it.
Have a great day - i am kondoing more marking today.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Morning all
Hope everyone is well, welcome to the new konverts
Haven't done a huge amount here with having extra work but yesterday DD3 and her fella popped round and asked if I'd got any of a certain type of cleaning product I'd introduced them to it but I've got a large stash of cleaning stuff so gave them a full bottle that was lurking.
Today I plan on taking a large carrier of fabric off cuts to the local high school for their art dept, returning Ds2s trophy from last years awards ( we got to keep it for a year- which is now up) and decluttering polling cards later this evening.
Finished off another ball of wool list night after sewing together a little Sunday I've knitted for new DGS.SPC~12 ot 124

. I've just packed to move to Spain and put him in a vacuum bag . I told him to take a deep breath and pretend he was hibernating but I keep thinking I've killed Teddy
. He's in the first case to be opened when it arrives

Love reading what a difference this is making to people's lives :T.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0
