The KonMarie method

Hello fellow Konverts,
I have to come clean I have lost my way a bit. I imagine some people on here are familiar with the Flylady technique. For those who aren’t, one aspect is that you split your house into zones and each week concentrate on that particular zone.
So I thought I’d combine the two methods. One week kondoing in the kitchen, the next the bedroom, living room, bathroom etc.
Well it’s been a disaster the bedrooms and bathroom weeks I was happy as Larry. Sorting out paperwork and toiletries. Then when the kitchen and living room came around less so. I hadn’t finished in those other rooms and moving on to the kitchen and living room gave me no joy, so I ended up doing nothing those weeks .
What was I thinking? Kon Marie specifically states you should concentrate on categories not rooms.
So it’s time to pick myself up, brush myself down and start all over again.
One thing I have achieved. OH bought himself a new tablet and the box it came in is just the right size to fit in one of my drawers. I’m like a toddler at Christmas, more interested in the boxes than the contents0 -

Posties just been with the gift aid letter from the Cs we offload our kondoing to. They made £63.25, really pleased as there really was nothing there I miss or would have been bothered to car boot.
The school was really pleased with the bag of stuff I kondoed onto them and now the trophy has gone back its one less thing to dust of worry about.SPC~12 ot 124

Hi folks I'm still reading along with you although I've sort-of finished - the house, shed & garage are done, I'd like to do the garden too but I need more time for that - lots of weeds and runaway invasive plants to Kondo.
I'd just like to say that what I've done has stayed done, and I occasionally notice something else that can go e.g. a book I thought I'd re-read, but realistically I know I won't. So I still have a small bag behind a door out of sight that I shall take to the CS when it's full - I think this part of the process will be ongoing - maybe I wasn't thorough enough to start with! So that's a positive.
I am struggling with a couple of things though:
DD (23), although she sees how happy this has made me, and has turfed out a lot of books, still won't go any further and her 'stuff' spreads around the house - I don't mind too much as it's her home too of course, but it waters down the joy as I don't 'see' the results as clearly as I might otherwise do.
I still have an urge to spend money on new clothes - I call it an attack of 'the spends' and I'm struggling not to undo all my own hard work by filling up my wardrobe with lovely, unnecessary, things!
Oh and OH thinks I've changed for the worseMainly because after years of having my hair shoulder-length and dyed red/brown, because he liked it that way, I've had it cut really short to let the grey do its own thing and Kondo the dye. He says I look 10 years older
I'm quite sad about that but I prefer my hair short and it's my hair so I'm not going to give in - I think it's the not giving in that upsets him, he's used to having his own way :rotfl:
So that's me. Mostly positive with a few niggles, and I'm glad I did it!

Because several items are on their way towards the ragbag and the aim over time is to have a muchly-reduced inventory. I have two tea-towels 'on the go', plus one pillowslip, and a couple of sheets. Will be concentrating the wear and tear on a very few items from each category, and then getting them outta here.
I have sufficient nice, almost new towels, that I discovered in my airing cupboard. But, I also have a few really good towels that do not match, so I am using those up for the time-being. I still need to weed out some of my tea towels that are looking tatty. (Must not forget to keep a couple, for emergency mop-ups!)

I think quite a few of us have thought that 'we know better' and have tried to mix-n-match our habits, or other de-cluttering methods, with MK's! She may only seem a chit of a girl but, obviously, she has based her method on years of study!
It makes perfect sense, as we all know from experience, to focus firmly on the job in hand, to get it done properly, as quickly as possible, whether it is an assignment, washing the kitchen floor, cooking a meal, or a home to kondo! How often do we just leave the kitchen floor, cluttered with a bucket and mop, part-way through the job?
I have gone back to square one several times on this project, and each time my patience with excess stuff decreases and more gets discarded! It is quite clear, that if nothing is acquired, these returns to the start WILL end this project eventually! :T
I must admit, that after several years of strictly controlling what is coming in, I have now collected  a BFL full of small boxes and plastic punnets, ready to use as storage containers! I haven't had to use any yet, but I expect to, when I get to crafty stuff. If not, I shall be thrilled to recycle them! :rotfl:Needs, NOT wants!

...I'd like to do the garden too but I need more time for that - lots of weeds and runaway invasive plants to Kondo. Hmm, me too.
Great idea! When you no longer have a bag by the door, you'll know that you have reached your own level of minimalism!
She should be able to keep her own room as she wishes, of course, but communal areas should be kept free of anyone's clutter.
I still have an urge to spend money on new clothes - I call it an attack of 'the spends' and I'm struggling not to undo all my own hard work by filling up my wardrobe with lovely, unnecessary, things!
Save the money and eventually buy fewer, better quality clothes?
Oh and OH thinks I've changed for the worseMainly because after years of having my hair shoulder-length and dyed red/brown, because he liked it that way, I've had it cut really short to let the grey do its own thing and Kondo the dye. He says I look 10 years older Nasty!

Taking control of our homes, can also help us to take more control of our lives.:T

Woo hoo. Miles better mood today. Have rung local councillor to say thank you as my backyard is now free from the old furniture from dd bedroom. This means I can sweep it and plant the bedding plants I got in tramps corner. His always lift my mood as flowers in bloom bring me so much joy.
Got rid of parcels, the last ebay one, the one with Nielsen stuff in and my first Amazon trade in.
I have a few bits to declutter from all these goings on so I have space to START,
I have been reading the book, I am defo the person who does a few bits at a time. I might do a pre blitz on rest of CDs only because I want to put them on car boot! We are also finishing off bits of decorating this weekend and dd party so I want to focus on that first.Don’t put it down - put it away!

Good for you.
A while back I decided to embrace the grey and was cultivating a bit of a Mallen Streak (That probably shows my age more than the grey hair).
After a couple of weeks my OH commented that it made me look old. Well,as I love him and valued his opinion I told him to get stuffed
A couple of months later , whilst visiting my Sister , my Brother- in- law after a few drinks points at my hair and tells me “You need to sort that out”
I have to admit I was so shocked that I caved in and dyed it again.
It should be mentioned that both gentlemen have a substantial amount of grey hair.0
