Mrs Veg Plot, have a lovely break.
    Safe journey.
Don't worry, I'll still be plodding through paperwork for a long time yet... :(

:T Well done, Dustykitten, and I hope you enjoy your new job.

Clutterfree, spiders hate being disturbed, there are spiders in kondo-ing households all over the world muttering about That Bliddy Woman and planning to leave their homes for more suitable venues.

Pests of all sorts hate to be disturbed, so by pulling stuff out of corners and gong through things, you could be doing yourself a huge favour in terms of avoiding critter problems.

I'm still feeling proper poorly with this dadblasted cold, even though I am able to sleep now. Been a while since I had one this rotten. Will wait a few hours and see if I feel up to going to the allotment as I will have to water the indoor-sown courgettes either today or tomorrow.

Enjoy your holiday, Mrs VP. Beautiful part of the country. Be interesting if you are normally a souvenir buyer, and if that changes now you're a kondo-ite.

:) Now, new shops are seldom places I visit, but I adore poking around in chazzers. I have long had a thought that I could do with a black shoulderbag, of smartish styling, for those occasions when my only other bag, a very casual coloured cloth number, would look inappropriate. Trying to find a plain-ish, un-fussy black bag secondhand is a toughie. I figure we ladies wear them to death.

Anyway, I was in the 50p Chazzer last week and I saw a suitable black bag, was holding it whilst walking around seeing if there was anything else, when I had a LBM; I do not love this bag. I could hear myself thinking It'll do.

:o It'll do is the thinking which causes me to have un-joyful possessions which then have to be kondo'd. So I put it back, to save future kondo-ing rather than to save 50p, IYSWIM.

I feel I made a sudden leap in self-understanding in that charity shop, lol.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

    Mrs VP happy holiday vibes

Greyqueen great mental step forward there

I've got all the banking/savings files out, everybody's, old and new and I've made a start, this is going to be an entire morning job but I'm hoping the joy i feel at the end will be worth it.

    Hi all

Returning Kondoite here. I bought the book just after Christmas and haven't followed her instructions to the letter but I am making good progress.

I have completed our paperwork. This is a really hard one but believe me so worthwhile. I bought one of those metal boxes with hanging files and everything important is now in there. So when the car insurance was up for renewal it was easy to get out the paperwork from last year and get a new quote which saved me a lot of money.

The final thing that I should do is go back through OHs accounts files and shred the ones that are over 6 years old but they are filed neatly so I can do that any rainy afternoon.

I am going to do my airing cupboard/blanket box today and have a massive clearout. When my gran died I acquired 2 heavy wool blankets that were donkeys years old. I was strangely reluctant to part with them, even though with modern houses and duvets they are not something that people really use any more. In the end I kept one and the other went to the charity shop but I may need to rethink that today.

    .

I had a similar moment in a rather charming emporium in mid Wales last weekend. Such lovely things.... But they are things I don't need. Did buy two more Christmas tree decs though. These are my souvenir of choice, not too expensive (specially in May - LOl) - I think they cost £2 for the pair, light, don't take up much room and every year you remember the lovely place you bought them. The joy is annual :D

Great paint in today. I am hoping DD - who is home to erm "help" - will kondo some cuddlies

LOL my iPad now remembers the word "kondo" and will correct it if I misspell :p
I wanna be in the room where it happens

Congratulations on the job, Dustykitten! I've just left full-time employment to become self-employed, I know that I need to be much more efficient and organised so KM has come at just the right time for me.

I need to crack on - just been on holiday for a week, I bought NO souvenirs at all (a first for me) and it felt good. I'm still finishing bits of paperwork, it's been a mammoth task but one that I hope will pay dividends. I did it out of order and I'm going back to do books next.

    Morning all
    Brilliant news dusty well done
    Have a great holiday MrsVP
Got Myself a couple more knitting/crocheting projects to use up some more stash, made a start on one last night so another ball gone from the ottoman. It's all projects that will leave the house so definitely stash clearing and one should bring joy as I've volunteered to make wooly birds floors nests and leaves in appropriate season ps to decorate some fake trees in a passageway at local school.

    Congratulations DustyKitten! :j
    ...I may start paperwork.
I'm dreading this section because I have years and years to sort.
I'm going against the rules and not putting it all together to sort/discard because there is way too much and it will be overwhelming.
I have a largish pile of papers in the kitchen so shall start on that first then work my way through the various boxes and bags that are all over the house! :o
I plan to discard and sort but not properly store until it is all done.
I'll temporarily store each "lot" in a cardboard box until I'm ready to collate what is left and store properly.

Have a good day all. :)

PS is anyone else noticing more spiders about the home because we are disturbing THEIR homes?!

Your paperwork sounds like mine - all over the house, in various containers (that were shifted when expecting visitors! :o) I have 26 years worth to sort through, _pale_ so it will be tackled by 'pile/bag/or box', as discovered!

I haven't 'officially' started kondoing papers. Necessity suggested that I should arrange a basic filing system, in the New Year, because I discovered that I had 4 unpresented cheques... going back to 2007! Luckily, they have now been replaced (and paid in!) So, I have ring-binders for Bills, Insurance, Mortgage, Pension, and an ongoing legal wrangle. Anything that comes in is filed - immediately. :j

Yesterday's, serendipitous change of plan led to a wallet of craft 'ideas' being discarded, obviously, collected before the age of computers and Google Images!

None of the stuff I had to move yesterday, has gone back, and is reduced to 4 custom boxes of embroidery threads and a huge cardboard box containing half a dozen small bits of komono. I need to go through the big box, because it's in the way. I can see that anything, 'in case', will be going, and anything else will be properly homed. ;)

I am trying to decide what to take on today. I am tempted to do more of the accidently kondoed corner (which is a voyage of discovery) or some more books... or both. Either way, I'm charging forward! :T

Oh, I've got spiders. I don't mind them (so long as they stay out of my bedroom!) If their homes are inappropriately sited, I gently move them elsewhere! I like to think that they make my home 'ecologically sound', catching any flies that get in during the summer! :rotfl:Reminds me of a couple of spider jokes I recently came across:

I found a spider in a corner today, so I gently took a tissue, and set fire to the house!

I found a spider in the bath and tried to kill it with hairspray. It's still alive, but it's hair looks wonderful!

    Have a great day!

Fantastic news on the job, Dusty!! :D:T:T

I've just started 2 very p/t jobs after just over 9 years away from real paid work - exam invigilating in different schools (so it's seasonal, which is great - as getting out of the house just gone 8am with 'done' hair and make up and in smart clothes 4 days a week has been a challenge!!:rotfl::rotfl: At least this way I do it for about 6 weeks and then not again for several months :D
