Well well well. Update on the new sofas I am sure kondoing is working and opening new doors. Just like our great leader said.
2 stunning Laura Ashley sofas 18 months old and used in a holiday home which was only used for 3 weeks a year. They look brand new and you wouldnt know anyone had even sat on them.
The man showed me the invoice and they cost £3400:eek:
He said I could have them for £160 and he would deliver for meI am so excited and cant wait to have them in my new kondo'd lounge. I will also get him a bottle of wine and a box of chocolates as I feel that would be a nice gesture. As he could have got far more for them. And will give mine to a very worth while charity which is local to me.
Mav x:)
That's great Mav, what a total bargain. I had a bit of good fortune on the sofa front too today. I have been hankering after a chesterfield suite for a long long while but couldn't justify the cost and a 2nd hand shop near me advertised they had one for £650 and we negotiated to get another £100 off for delivery tomorrow. I am convinced that doors are being opened as a result of karma (and the amount of new clothes with tags on that are ready for donation to the charity shop!)If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
Gosh, good news on the sofas - it seems as if it really does have an impact on other areas of life! I still feel I have a long way to go, but something amazing happened today.
I have been putting off tackling the under stairs cupboard. It's got no light, the door is really tiny and I knew it would be a grim job. I dragged everything out and decided to hoover and mop inside before I started on the contents. I shone a torch inside to see how bad it was ... and the light picked out a gold ear stud which has been missing for at least a year! It's a miracle I haven't Kondoed the partner, but I've been wearing it in my tragus piercing.
It made the task (which was indeed horrible) worthwhile!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
Morning all
Having made a start on the paperwork I am keen to continue this morning. I am still dealing with the stuff which has been living on the kitchen table for a couple of weeks. Trying not to overwhelm myself by getting too much out at a time.
I am starting to notice how it changes your views on everything simply by saying does this bring me joy. I can see it helping me lot go lots of voluntay roles which have ceased to bring me joy.
Also I found the old ebay invoice for some odd size plugs I ordered for my kitchen sink, new ones now ordered and I have a household journal which I have never used, I shall record the details of where to order in there and discard the invoice. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -

That was a great find ali how exciting getting our new furniture.I agree with you about doors opening as a result of karma.
The friend I gave the boots to as she had always loved them has come round with a 5ltr tin of floor paint which I need for when I finish kondoing:)Which I would have had to buy at a cost of £60 so that is a great saving for me karma returning ? kon marie who knows but I am very grateful for it.
That reminds me the paint(decorating) over flowing hell hole of a storage place is in my sights today for the kondo treatment.I cant believe how much is in there.
Also the junk medication type cupboard is also on my list.Where things are balanced on top of each other and mostly when you open it everything comes crashing down.
So thats my Bank Holiday sorted :rotfl:I hope everyone enjoys theirs whatever you are up too.

:T Wow, most excellent news about those Laura Ashley sofas and the boots and paint sort-of swop. It's amazing how freeing things from our life leaves room for new activities and (sometimes) new and appropriate things. Makes you wonder how many items are festering and dying in storage for want of the thought or the will/ way to gift them along?
Yesterday was a sofa day due to feeling poorly and because it rained until the early afternoon. I did start a niggly job, which was to sand the flaking varnish and overpainting from the wooden threshold which separates my kitchen from my living room - the sliding door between the rooms travels over this as a runner, IYSWIM.
I was going to varnish it yesterday with varnish from the shed but held fire as I would then be at home breathing it in for hours, so will do that today, once I've got ready to go allotmenteering, and then exit sharpish whilst it dries.
This threshold is in my line of sight pretty much constantly, and has only just started to niggle, which I regard as being secondary to the decluttering. I guess when there are great lumps of Stuff on the floor, you're not going to be noticing little things like that, and once they've gone, you can see what needs to be done.
On Friday I had an appointment with an electrician sent by my landlord to do the electrical testing. I had the appt letter out then, one he'd been, picked it up with a view to putting it in the Tenancy section of my personal filing. Then I stopped myself and thought why am I doing this? It's the notification of an event which has happened, and I have noted it in my diary, should I need to recall the day and time for any reason. My landlord will be sent the paperwork they need by the electrician's employer and my signature is on his worksheet which proves I was here and it did happen. There's no purpose to keeping the appointment letter. So I shedded it.Is anyone else finding that they have some time of their hands, where there didn't used to be any? It's not that I've decluttered any work or responsibilites, it's just that I deal with things as they arise, and thus don't have to revist them/ pick them up again/ sort through them again.
It's a strange feeling. And strange to have space. I may have to use the newly cleared floor for sit-ups or something.:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Morning all.
Well done to you both on the great sofa finds! :T
I've done my books this weekend.
I didn't think I had THAT many but once I brought them all together as Marie suggests, then I realised I had a fair few!
I've now freed up one whole shelf in the living room and the 4 double stacked shelves upstairs are now just 3 and are not double stacked.
I didn't completely abide by Marie's rules by discarding any unread books. I kept the ones I've still to read from my favourite authors because I know I will read them. However, I did discard any unread books which I'd bought from charity shops from authors I'd not read before if that makes sense! The other books I kept were mainly gardening and reference books. I only kept 2 novels that I had already read because I reread one recently and know I will again.
I've still to do my recipe books but that will be a bigger task because (rule breaking again!) I do want to flick through those to see if there are lots or only a few recipes I want to cook in each before I make my decision.
I found books easier to do than clothes.
Below is what I discarded - 9 carrier bags full.
I did try Zapper but they only wanted 3 books for the princely sum of 90p total so instead I took them to a local lady who sells books on behalf of our local air ambulance.
I confess I came away with 5 paperbacks from my favourite authorsbut they are only 50p each and I know they will be read so I don't regard them as clutter. I was very good and only looked for 2 authors rather than perusing all the shelves which is what I usually do.
I've still got to do the boys books but need their help with those and my youngest starts his GCSE's tomorrow so they will have to wait until end of June.
Have a good day all.
Think I'm going to start the kitchen today! :eek:Ageing is a privilege not everyone gets.

I totally agree with this ^^^^^^^^^^Is anyone else finding that they have some time of their hands, where there didn't used to be any? Yes Yes Yes I noticed when I am getting laundry in off the line I am dealing with it and putting where it should be and not just leaving it in the basket to crease and crumple even more.

It is a strange feeling for me as well GreyQueen I know when I finish kondoing I will be able to do things that I havent had time to do as I have been constantly chasing my tail and TBH never getting anything finished. Things feel more relaxed and calm including me

Morning all!
I couldn't understand how kondoing could be behind all the 'good luck' that has been happening to me (and others). But, I have concluded that it is the change in our attitudes and moods. The excitement and drive that we now have is attractive to other people, and bringing these positive results. So, post-kondoing, we need to hang on to these feelings! It would be such a shame if we drop back into the daily rut again!Well iQueen The pressure is on me then :rotfl:Yes I will be like your daughter at this rate as 2 bottles of rubbish cleaner kondo'd.Sprayed about a gallon of it in the sink and it made no difference so in the bin it went
When I cleaned my daughter's messy home, while she was away, she had in her cleaning cupboard:
1 washing-up liquid
1 laundry powder
1 softener
1 Grotbuster - the most BRILLIANT all-purpose cleaner ever made, now discontinued(I've got 3 stashed under my sink, thank goodness! Please email Domestos and ask for it back again!)
1 window cleaning spray
1 Bleach
Pan cleaners
4-5 dusters
3 dish-cloths
brush and dustpan
I did have to buy a bucket
I have a lot of so-called 'specialist' cleaners, which will be kondoed through use, but I won't be buying more!
Decided that what is making my house look even more jaded is the sofas so will kondo them once I can find a nice one 2nd hand somewhere even DH agrees which he didnt before I kondo'dSo really happy with that joint ahmm decision
Fantastic news about the new one! :j
Fridge is done scrubbed and everything lined up and in its place.Freezer is to full to do at moment so will run it down and then stack it as suggested.
I may be a slutty housekeeper, but I do clean the fridge regularly. My freezer stock also needs running down before I can kondo that, but I am storing frozen stuff by 'filing' it on it's side, when possible.
Bathroom done and now if you shout at DH from there it echo's L:rotfl:Love it!...for some reason the first thing i did was sort DHs underwear and PJs, al la Kon Marie.
i was wondering if anyone else found it easier to start on someone else's drawers (as it were!!)?
The reason is, I think, that we will see and appreciate the benefits of doing our own clothes first (keeping up the our motivation and momentum), whereas others may think it's a woo fad and may revert to chucking things in randomly, (before they are konverted!)
i did then do my knicker drawer and life is so much simpler getting ready for work in the morning. I had a lovely time chucking the items that don't give me pleasure - so the grey bras went!! The millions of single stockings and socks that have somehow become divorced from their partners but remained in the drawer....gone. the trainer socks that just rub the back of your heels have gone. I can find whatever style or coloured garment i want in an instant. So my day starts off a lot calmer.
It's amazing how much valuable storage space we freely give to 'oddments', which we should just bin. I've got a bag of orphaned socks - my children's! They left home 10 years ago! I shall, no doubt, find the partners, post-kondo, when I deep-clean the bedrooms! :rotfl:
i too found that the drawers have stayed neat. I had a near-miss when i took 2 pairs of socks off the radiator in a hurry and nearly flung them in the drawer, but i stopped myself, turned them the right way out and gently laid them in my sock parition*. I took on board not buying more storage but like most have found boxes placed in drawers really keep things orderly. Although i'll confess to buying two plastic boxes for the difficult to reach under-sink area. They have also greatly aided the tidying and then finding things. While Kondoing the undersink i found i had 4 packs of small sandwich bags, 80 in each. That's a lot of sandwiches!!
i have also tackled a large kitchen cupboard that was stuffed with things. I know i am supposed to items not areas but as many have said in here, the items were all kitchen stuff and i did actually sort them into themes first, eg, Baking and party items, t-towels, serving dishes, cake boards, and so on. Blimey, what a difference. Loads more space, no wrestling things out of the way to get at others, easy to keep tidy!
Anyway, enough rambling. The folks want their tea.
Thanks for the inspiration. Will report back in a few days. M
TIP (literally!): Most of us have at least 1 or 2 spaces that we keep relatively clear - eg food prep area, the bed we sleep in. If a drawer, or small cupboard, or box is somewhat daunting, tip it out onto that must-be-clear spot! You will probably, be so desperate to get it clear again that you will make decisions much quicker! Even if we make a mistake, it is very unlikely to be life-shattering.Needs, NOT wants!
No food waste since November 2010. :j

Have been catching up on the Kondo-ing that's been going on - some really impressive activity. I was feeling a bit stuck, but reading everyone's successes has been very helpful, so thank you.
I was on hols last week, and found that the kondo-folded clothes went really easily into the suitcase, then into the drawers where I was staying, and when they were used, they were kondo-folded into the laundry bag, and took up much less room than the usual scrunched-up jumble.
Back in the pigsty now :rotfl: and tried to get to grips with my books - I did manage to pull out 2 20-year old guide books and a handful of other non-joyful items, but was rather frustrated by having come upstairs to the study without my glasses and thus unable to read the titles on the top shelves, and having nowhere to put the ones from the front of the double-banked shelves so I could get to the back row. Plus I do like books and find it difficult to discard any. They've been gone through over the last few years when I was trying to sell some online (specialist stuff unsuitable for charity shops), and it felt like an amputation to pack them up and send them off. Even though I may never read them again, they're a bit like distant family: only seen at weddings or funerals but it's nice to know they're there.
Why are there so many gardening books on my shelves?“Tomorrow is another day for decluttering.”Decluttering 2023 🏅🏅🏅🏅⭐️⭐️

Finally I'm getting back into the zone with this. My cousins are doing a boot sale next weekend & I had lots of their stuff in my house (I'd previously sold lots of stuff on eBay for them and this was the left overs.) It was all dropped off at their house this morning and in spite of the fact that most of it had been in the shed rather than the house - it has got me back into the flow of discarding things. The spare room is starting to look like one day in the foreseeable future it could be used as something other than a place to store stuff.
I had originally planned to do the boot sale with my cousins but can't now do it. Part of me would like to take the whole lot straight round the charity shop but I'm saving up at the moment so feel I need to make some effort to try to sell it. So I'm giving myself 3 months to sell the clothes on eBay & the other stuff in a bootsale. Whatever I haven't managed to sell by then goes to the Charity Shop. Date is in my diary! I've got 2 bags of clothes to go to CS - that are not worth selling on eBay.
I've also got rid of an old rickety chair that I was using at my desk, and have ordered a new comfy proper desk chair - which I imagine will spark joy in my back.Shifting my energy for 20200
