Morning all
Just back from the CS run and dropped 7 bags off, I can see carpet in the smallest spare room now which is a bonus. Not sure how long that will last as that's the room I tend to store stuff that's going in, but at least lots is going. The only thing that came in today was groceries so nothing permanent.
Everyone is doing brilliantly with their kondoing and the support and encouragement they share in this thread.SPC~12 ot 124

VJsmum It really is strange how these gifts make us feel. I was thinking when I chucked the glass sandy thingy out.Shall I phone him and tell him I was getting rid of it. But A -I dont think he would even remember it. and B- Why would he care. and C -He would think I was suffering from some form of dementia and I wouldnt want him worried :rotfl:
So good luck with the daffs just shut your eyes thank them for ruining the decor in your home for the last 20 years and let them go They were given to you with love and thats all you need to know.;)
My Shirehorse has lived in the garage for the last at least 24 years never seeing the light of day.But what I am going to do is ask my son if he would like it. When he says "what the hell do I want that for it is hideous" I shall thank it for being so ugly and of its time and let it go.
looking forward to MKing the cupboard today.More junk to go me thinks
Have a good day everyone

Sentimental gifts from holidays or school trips etc are really hard for me, as they usually make me smile with happiness - even if they are too naff to display.
I'm going to put them in a memory box for the children to find eventually, when they clear my house. They will probably have a nostalgic moment and then chuck them in the skip! (Sorry. It should just be a bin bag after kondoing! :rotfl:)
Children are strange animals. Even those in their mid-40s can react oddly, if they discover that we have ditched something apparently innocuous! I think they see these things as an investment of their love, even if they had forgotten them. So, 'what the eye doesn't see etc'.Well, I keep walking between my rooms (4 small ones) in the flat and wondering where all the Stuff has gone............ OK, most of it went to the chazzer, some went to the recycling and some has been stored differently but it still seems to me to be a miracle which I haven't actively participated in. :rotfl:
Not exactly minimalistic but soooo much better than it was. I did go shopping yesterday, for a pair of thinning scissors and was driven nearly unto exasperation by the whole experience. Ughhh, I detest it. Food shopping, I have to do and am actively motivated into doing, but general purpose shopping/ mooching/ poking about? Have lost the enthusiasm. Me, too!
Acquisitions so often disappoint. I'm firmly convinced that you can't purchase your way to a happy life, you need to have encouraged happiness inside yourself.
In pursuit of personal happiness, I am about to make a flask of tea and a sandwich and head up to my allotment for a few hours' peace and quiet.
You are SO right, GQ! Over the past year that is something I realised. Also, happiness is something we have to work out for ouselves. While it can be enhanced by other people, it does not depend on them. (OPs on here, excepted!)
Needs, NOT wants!
No food waste since November 2010. :j

Well its been a good few months since I managed to Marie Kondo my whole house so thought I would give a quick update...
1 - I have not missed any of the stuff I got rid of! Not one item!
2 - By clearing all the surfaces in the bathroom its much quicker to clean as it just take a quick wipe round. Also I used to store towels in there but have now put them in the airing cupboard and we are going through a lot less which means a lot less washing.
3 - I now realise that there are still things in my wardrobe/drawers that I dont use - me and dd intend to re-Kondo at the beginning of June so will be looking at getting rid of this stuff
4 - Even if my house gets a bit messy if I have been busy it only takes minutes to put stuff away because everything has a home!
5 - I still every night after getting in from work put my handbag, shoes, coats, packed lunch box all away in their designated spots
6 - I am not going shopping as a hobby anymore - even the charity shops - I still love a mooch but am extremely choosy....I think I have only bought 2 tops in the past 3 months!
7 - My head feels a lot less cluttered - having to constantly think about how bad the house was (and it wasnt actually that bad) did drag me down - I now have time to do the things I want to do without feeling guilty
So for me, Marie Kondo bless her wee cute socks has been a bit of a life saver - may even re-read her book again just for the fun of it!Kondo'ed 76 items from wardrobe, 4 carrier bags of books0 -
:T Awesome, soon2bejobless, simply awesome, what a testimonial.
Yesterday morning, I had to be ready for an electrician sent by my landlord to test the entire property. Sooo, into every room and nook and cranny of every room, or at least the bits with sockets in them. Was I bovvered? Nope, because the place was already tidy so I just parked myself on the couch while he did his stuff. The top of the cabinet by the sitting-room door, which is very convenient and just the right height to park a clipboard on whilst updating your notes, was clear and able to be used for that very purpose.
Ahh, the freedom of having your own house (or flat, in my case) in order. Hard to beat knowing where stuff is, and being able to drop hand on it in seconds. Plus chores are more likely to be done if all that's involved is a quick swipe over a bare surface, rather than an obstacle course. And the absence of social shame if someone rocks up unexpectedly is blissful.I did buy a bottle of shampoo today, even though the outgoing bottle is upside-down to release the last dregs for one more hairwashing. As I was in the store anyway and buying today meant not buying midweek, which would have involved an extra shopping excursion. PB behaved herself, with no crowing I told you so! and didn't even remember that there was also washing-powder in the same store and domestic supplies were running low. Bless.
I have gardened, removing weeds from the spring-sown broad beans, and the wind was chilly and the sunshine intermittant, but the birds sang and the bumblebees bumbled and all was well with the world. Beats the four-ecks out of shopping any day of the week.
Tomorrow or Monday, I will go walkies over to the bluebell wood. Because a bluebell wood in May is a very fine thing indeed, one of the real joys in life, and should be appreciated. I completely understand why the Japanese have a national holiday to go admire cherry blossoms.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I, like lots of you, have reduced my shopping intake. Today we needed to go food shopping. When I had put it all away I felt offended as the food was taking up my lovely empty spaces. Must get OH to hurry up with decorating so that I can re kondo and then reorganise my kitchen again.De cluttering Konvert.Getting there

Oh GQ a bluebell wood my favourite sight
along with a field of lavender.
Everyone seems to be of good cheer must be the hint of summer to come. I think the lighter nights make us all feel better.

I think coming back and letting others know that kondoing does work and is sustainable is great. Its encouraging. I for one have a much easier life everything has a home and have less of it to home. I no longer need to look for comfort or self esteem from shopping. I have better things to do
There was an author on last nights the one show talking about his book Stuffication.
I have no intention of buying the book.
However he writes about the trend now for people 'doing' things
Instead of shopping as a pastime. I agree I think its the way forward.
well done all keep going. Have a great holiday.
I have my little back pack, flask, cool pack ect all ready for my summer jaunts. Its almost like my decluttered house is setting me free.”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
Put on some lipstick
and pull yourself together”

I used photobucket and uploaded my pics onto there. Each pic gets a url beside it and I copied and pasted that into the mse reply and when I hit post the links turned into pictures - job done. I have been on this site for years but only just worked out pictures today. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0
