The KonMarie method

Thanks to everyone who has commented - I was of the opinion to keep the bike, but wondered if that was too much 'just in case', I'll get OH to put it in the garage loft if he can, then it's at least out of the way for now. DD is of the mindset that if she needs a bike then that one is fine (although her preference is not to need a bike!
) As to 'uni bottom drawer' I'll VERY slowly start that off - although only with excess type items (like my new teatowels) - I'm kind of looking forward to a massive(ish) IKEA shop the month before she goes when we'll have more of an idea what she'll need (although no doubt will still get some of it wrong!
)
Ironing beckons right now (brain too scrambled to deal with anything else) and then I have a pile of must-do paperwork (important and time critical) when brain is feeling less scrambled. Kondo-ing on hold for today, but it's only a brief pause!
Loving everyone's stories and updates. I found £20 in a handbag & just under £30 in a purse

Hi Lizzie
I don't know what it is but I too seem to be saving money. DH noted the current account seemed more healthy when he checked the balance the other day.
I am now very aware of bringing anything into the house that might add to the clutter, so maybe that's why.
I was in the CS the other day dropping off some clutter and started admiring two large items in the window, before I wouldn't have hesitated and would have bought them, now I decided not to as the space gives me more joy :-)
Have sent two parcels on their way for ebay and one more bag at the CS today.:T
You know what those two things are still in the window and I didn't even stop to look
Well done Jue! :T It really seems to be a change of mindset doesn't it?!
I think I'm doing the same. I'll see things that I think are lovely, would look nice at home etc, which in the past I probably wouldn't have thought twice about buying, but now I tend to skirt round them in shops, maybe go back and look a couple of times (I'm surprised I've not been followed by any store detectives yet as I must look well dodgy!) and then decide I really have nowhere to put said 'lovely' item, and it would be a shame to deprive someone else of the joy of taking it home. I've enjoyed imagining it being a part of my life for a few minutes and that little bit of joy has cost me nothing :cool:0 -

That's brilliant my new shopping mantra!
I've just cancelled a groupon deal for
Microfibre slippers....they polish the floor as you walk????
Come on really??
i seem to be transfering my shopping habit to
An on line shopping habit.
As though it doesn't count.
This has to stop!

If it's a want then you don't need it!'
That used to be my MSE signature”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
Put on some lipstick
and pull yourself together”

OOoh - going back to 'found money', I've also found about a dollar in US coins, which has been out aside (we're planning a Florida trip next year) and several Euro cents - also put aside (DS1 has a German school trip) and some other random foreign money (Swaziland and Sweden anyone?) - put in a bag with other coins and stamps and first day covers ready to go to a dealers - I'll be happy with anything above £20 (there's a large collection of all items) - it's all worth far more, but the space is more valuable to meI am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200

I found £10 in an email this morning - it's coming from Morrisons! Thank goodness, I thought twice about kondoing their survey last week! :j
My first move in de-cluttering, several years ago, was to prevent it getting worse, by stopping non-essentials coming into the home. I developed the habit of questioning everything I buy... I'm the supermarket customer, who trots round the store, pre-checkout, putting back all the 'impulse-buys' that seemed to bring me joy on the first circuit! :rotfl:
I've been saving 50ps for years and only need another £35 to get my long-awaited wool combs! :T0 -
Evening all,
still enjoying all your stories and the journeys that you are all taking, this darn konmarie method certainly opens ups all sorts of other avenues doesn't it??
am certainly past the half way point (I think!!), now for the longer and harder second half:D
would just like to know if anyone else is having a problem with clothes?? while I have cleared a lot, I basically have 2 wardrobes, one is size 12 and gives me much MUCH joy, the second is a tight size 16 and gives me no joy whatsoever
so I have suitcases full of lovely clothes under the bed and half empty wardrobe of mostly unlovely stuff purchased because I thought that it would hide my bulk, soooooooo, am figuring the only way out of this is to kondo the weight!! reckon a year at a pound a week should do it
will keep you all informed and would also like to know if anyone else has come to the same conclusion??
thanks for listening:T

I'm an arty, very visual type and I have a version of this which is It's OK to like something, to really like something, and not buy it.
There's a lot of lovely stuff out there in the world but there's only so many things I can personally interact with in my very small environment. It's OK to look at something then let it go without having had the intermediate stage of ownership in between.
I am in a bit of a dodgy situation at home, with a leaking water tank in the flat above and some water, potentially a whole lot of water, due to come down through my ceilings. Won't bring the ceilings down as they are a skim of plaster over concrete slabs, not plasterboard, but still a bit nerve-wracking.
I have removed a few things from potentially being in harm's way but will obviously be asleep for several hours and then out working for several hours tomorrow, so will have to leave it unattended and hope for the best.
Actually, that reminds me, my longbow lies on the floor behind the bed, best get that to an elevated position in case the tide comes in...... all these things to think of, it's enough to make you want to take up minimalism at a serious level.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Hi everyone, have started on the containers of photos and greetings cards, also anything our grandchildren have made us, so many boxes to come out of the loft. Been working on it for two days and still only halfway through, mess and boxes everywhere. Its quite slow doing photos as I keep stopping to look at them, remembering various holidays, parties and family get togethers. I am sorting photos into larges plastic crates and will look at storage solutions when they are sorted into categories. Will be keeping anything the grandchildren have made for us because it brings me joy. I am also trying to spend some time in the garden weeding and making things tidy, so am getting quite tired at the moment but after doing a some each day I am looking forward to the day when I can say I am finally finished and tidy.0
