LizzieR, your post about something bringing joy while you imagine owning it, and then you can walk away without needing to buy it, is brilliant. I had already got fairly good at not buying things before I started on the KonMari method, but I'm going to keep that helpful idea in mind next time I'm tempted.

Hope it works for you! It's certainly helping me :)

Good luck today for everyone with any Kondoing that you're up to! Off to work for me so probably won't get much done. Although I may try to Kondo Poldark from my I-player list this evening ;)
  • WARNING..........Yesterday I put my vintage boil-on-the-hob kettle on the CS pile. I never used it, but it looked quaint on my cooker. Luckily I haven't yet dropped off this load. I had to retrieve it, as today my electric kettle stopped working.
Maybe the vintage one didn't want to leave, or my electric one was mad because I never ever thanked it for all the lovely cups of tea it helped provide!

    Lucky escape there NouveauRiche! ;)

I sent my massive bag of clothes to the CS on Saturday, on Sunday my SIL popped round to borrow a particular dress... guess where it was?! She was very disappointed but it wasn't bringing me joy anymore so had to go! :p

I made a good start on my cupboard of doom yesterday and it's about 80% there I'd say, so many boxes to Kondo properly; my DH can't understand how it takes me so long but I have a lot of craft stuff to sort and it's all fiddly bits and most of them bring joy so need to be kept and sorted into the correct place! It will be wonderful when it's all done! :)

DH is quite worried about me though, he thinks I might be pregnant again as I appear to be 'nesting', I just told him that since I never did anything like this whilst I was pregnant with DS this must be delayed nesting! :rotfl:

Any genius ways of storing shoes? I have a *ahem* rather large collection, even trimmed down, there are still a lot there and they genuinely do get enough wear and bring joy etc, I'm just struggling a little with where/how best to keep them?

GQ, hope the leak is being resolved and the tidal wave hasn't appeared. I've been on the receiving end of 2 leaks from flat above and whilst both relatively small it's amazing how far water spreads. Fingers crossed for you.

Drusilla, love the thought of a toaster for 'best' :D

I am kondo ing some weight too. Attending a class so I have the impetus of someone weighing me. 6lb lost so far which I'm very happy with. Had a little chuckle to myself whilst there. The group leader provides hot drinks if people want them and I spotted a mug that I took to the charity shop last year! Glad it's got a new lease of life instead of being stuck in the back of a cupboard.

Birdie, I'm also still struggling with shoes, I have about 16 pairs and it's hard work keeping them tidy. Still searching for a good spot for them , they're currently on a rather wobbly metal shoe rack (4 rows of parallel bars) which is jammed behind the laundry basket to stop it wobbling. MK talks about a shoe cupboard in the hall, which I don't really have space for. I'm sure the answer will present itself soon enough, maybe there are non-joyous pairs of shoes that are holding us back!

At home today with a stonking cold so hoping to fit in a bit of kondo work around naps.

  • Well I started off really well, until Sunday - then its all stopped, with stacked bags everywhere, waiting to be outed. I've decided to just dump it all, as i've not got the will to sort the cs from the bin it. Today i want to finish off clothes - so bin all the bags and sort bedding stuff, sort my papers and organise fridge - im very much in stuck mode - somehow putting it here makes me more determined to do it. Have a good day everyone and i'll let you know if i managed to do anything !!!!!
  • I've just Kondoed the shoe rack! I now keep shoes in a drawer in the wardrobe (Ikea wardrobe, it's one of their full-width Rationell drawers). They're laid in pairs, one on top of the other so I can see what's there. As there were slightly too many for comfort I repurposed one of those hanging pocket things which I think was meant for lingerie - it holds six pairs of lightweight sandals/slippers. I think I still have too many pairs of shoes but it's a lot fewer than most of my friends.

I found £15 worth of gardening vouchers I had forgotten about when kondo-ing my handbags a few weeks ago. So today I took them with me on my travels, as I knew I would be passing a good garden centre.

It was bliss having a wander around and a cash-free spend. I came home with 8 assorted herb plants, a goodly amount of baby sweet peas and some fleece to protect the sweet peas whilst it's still cold at night.

This really gave me loads of joy! :j:j

WeeMidgie fantastic find at this time of year - I would have chosen sweetpeas and herbs I am not surprised you are full of joy :)

I too am feeling the joy today
I have taken all the towels I can find including the dog towels - I have rolled them and stacked them and found a new home for the dog towels - every towel in the house is clean except for the one in the kitchen

I have sorted through all my belts - thanked half of them and popped them in the charity shop bag
sorted a load of clothes for ebay cs and to put away

tomorrow I am going to tackle tops as I know have an empty drawer to put them in - feeling motivated once more

:D I am joyous - there is no longer water coming through my ceiling. The tank upstairs had a split, has a temp. repair and gets replaced on Thurs. Meanwhile, every hour should see my little home get a smidge drier.

    Happy day.
