  • Sorry to hear about the leak - it's at times like this that you really know what's important though, isn't it! I am finding all these posts really helpful and inspiring, I still have a lot to do and I'm in the 'worse before it gets better' phase. I love hearing from the people who've succeeded as well as those still Kondoing.

LizzieR, your post about something bringing joy while you imagine owning it, and then you can walk away without needing to buy it, is brilliant. I had already got fairly good at not buying things before I started on the KonMari method, but I'm going to keep that helpful idea in mind next time I'm tempted.

This weekend the toaster broke - 2 slicer not really big enough for the toast fiends in my house. Luckily, we had a lovely shiny brand new Dualit toaster in its box. I bought it for OH 2 Christmases ago!

When he saw it in the kitchen all he could say was 'oh yeah, should have got that out sooner.' Not sure if it is going to bring me joy as it is BIG!

At least we have got over the keeping it for best.

    Just dropping in...
Lots of wise words on here, a thread to make you think :)
I'm not finding that everything stays tidy as such, especially as DD isn't fully on board yet. But my things are tidy, and hers are more contained, so a definite improvement :)
What I am realising is that I'm doing many of the little repair jobs around the house that have been put off for ages - partly because they're more noticeable with less mess, and partly because they're quicker and easier to do because I can put my hand to all my tools easily :o

Today I collected my re-framed picture, of a place that's very special to me. The picture is now hung over the fireplace (1960s stone affair with horrid gas fire which I can't afford to Kondo!). Every time I look at that picture it will bring me great joy :D
I need to crack on with the shed and garage really but there aren't enough hours in the day!
Never mind, it'll get done in the fullness of time :)
GQ I do hope the leak is sorted soon
Annem have you looked at the 5:2 thread? It really helped me lose weight in 2013 and it's stayed off since.

Glad the topic of finding money came up! I found a cheque for £500 on Saturday!!! Unfortunately, it was 7 years old and I'm sure the company it was from have now gone bust. I can't remember why I wouldn't have cashed it as I've never had enough money to not need £500! IIm thinking maybe they paid me twice or sent a cheque and a BACS transfer. I'm pretty sure it was myat wage payment when I left that company.

    Morning all
DS1 thanked me for kondoing his chest of drawers yesterday, as it wasn't my stuff I didn't feel I could let anything other than litter and holey socks etc go but I neatly folded all his Tshirts and even sorted music, gaming comedy etc into rows so they are easier to find, found two small boxes that fit in his drawer so all his wallets are neatly standing in one and all belts rolled into another it looked so much better, then everything was pulled out of the wardrobe and hung properly. I left a pile of stuff in his doorway at I thought was litter and he agreed it was so that has all been binned.
He has even changed and made his bed when I looked in this morning!!!!

2 bags of 40 coat hangers have been put on freecycle incase a carbooter wants them, now I have kondoed the clothes we had over 100 spare hangers!!!!

    Evening all,

would just like to know if anyone else is having a problem with clothes?? while I have cleared a lot, I basically have 2 wardrobes, one is size 12 and gives me much MUCH joy, the second is a tight size 16 and gives me no joy whatsoever

so I have suitcases full of lovely clothes under the bed and half empty wardrobe of mostly unlovely stuff purchased because I thought that it would hide my bulk, soooooooo, am figuring the only way out of this is to kondo the weight!! reckon a year at a pound a week should do it

will keep you all informed and would also like to know if anyone else has come to the same conclusion??

    thanks for listening:T

I've definitely come to a similar conclusion - I have plenty of clothes which bring me much joy but don't fit. I seem to have a large number of pairs of jeans that I can't part with - I think because they're only about one size too small, so I know I can get there if I really try! There have been quite a lot of things that don't fit that I could cheerfully discard as I knew even if I did manage to get into them I wouldn't wear them anyway, but I've always struggled to find jeans that are right for me - there seems to be an assumption that just because you're larger you don't go in at the waist! So when I've found some I've liked I've tended to buy more than one pair - hence the stash! Maybe I need to re-assess and give myself a realistic timeframe - either to Kondo the weight or the jeans...!

In terms of diets, I tried one recommended by the British Heart Foundation about 5 years ago, and used to go to see a (lovely) practice nurse for fortnightly weigh-ins. It was really easy and sensible, and I lost a reasonable amount of weight and felt great on it. The diet allowed you a certain number of portions of bread/grains a day, a certain number of items of protein, fruit, veg, fats, etc and for me made things really easy. Unfortunately a few months in I picked up a really bad stomach bug which seemed to upset my system and I've struggled with IBS since then :( Nothing to do with the diet, but it meant I ended up focussing on trying to work out what I could/couldn't eat instead. That and a bad back has seen the weight creep back on, although slowly but surely I'm trying to fight back :) Perhaps the magic of the KonMarie method will help with that too...
