Thanks, Buffy - that's a brilliant list, for keeping on track, and not ending up with a roomful of komono at the end! :T

Thanks for that list Buffy, really useful. It's also quite interesting to look at all the STUFF on the list. There just seems to be so many things in a modern home.

It really does. Everything is piled on the bed at the mo, but I can see me throwing most of it. Just one thing - do they not get a line down the middle.

Mine haven't had a line down the middle so far :)

:)iQueen, I think I was just overtired and had done too much sorting and had reached overwhelm. I did something else for a few minutes then went back and got it all sorted and put away. Deffo don't need more seeds, with the possible exception of beetroots.

I think decision-making is a physically-tiring process, and when you are doing a lot of sorting all at once, it gets extremely knackering.

Today didn't pan out quite as planned or, more truthfully, it went as planned but with added hassle due to the discovery that water has been leaking through the ceiling of my airing cupboard, where the hot water pipes come down from the flat above. Everything in the rear half of each shelf, ceiling to floor, was saturated. And, due to dissolved plasterboard from the wet ceiling, some of it is stained, too.

Not a bundle of laughs at any time, but with 10 mins until my family arrive, not brilliant; discovered it by reaching for a guest towel to put in the bathroom for them to use.

OK, on the plus side; thanks to KM, the towels were rolled and stacked vertically. They each absorbed a lot of water which would have otherwise travelled further and done more harm. Go, KM! They have now mostly been laundered.

Of the stuff which didn't get wet, but which is out of the cupboard, some has been kondo'd and have taken a bag down to the chazzer this afternoon. Some more things (perfectly dry) are going to leave soon, I just couldn't handle them today. I had a LBM moment when I realised that I wasn't using them but I would have had to launder them if they'd got wetted; I'm exposing myself to the risk of additional work and aggro by having things which I'm not using on the premises.

So, will be doing about 4 extra laundry loads (and Mum has taken some of the bedlinen and will be doing 2 extra loads) but worse things happen at sea. The little things which I have divided into cloth drawstring bags didn't get wet and made the cupboard easy to empty, and one of the drawstring bags around a duvet cover caught the brunt of the dissolved plasterboard and thus protected the duvet underneath.

Spuds are planted, egg boxes recycled, scrap timber split for row markers and being used, it's all good. But I will have to declutter my bed considerably before I can lie in it tonight.

:) Sounds like a plan. I am just popping to the supermarket 5 mins up the road to get an Indian ready meal, my version of a takeaway. And maybe something naughty for dessert, it's been A Bit of A Day, to put it mildly. Shan't be late to bed tonight.

Tomorrow, I shall go briefly to the allotment, as have some bits and bobs of wood which was treated with preservative outside drying, and need to get them put away, but will make it a 10 min excursion and buy groceries on the return journey. Will also probably swing by the chazzer and donate those things (2 large pairs of curtains) which I was thinking about donating but hadn't got around to it, and am so thankful not having to launder them as part of the emergency clear-up that I will get them out of here.

Had a very productive hour this afternoon after reading your discussions on paperwork :) Instead of needing to buy a 5th filing box, I now only need 3 and they all have loads of room in them :) The recycling bin is full too :)

Tomorrow, if I get a minute, will be the stationery drawers :)

  • Had a very productive day kondoing - but it did take a good while. Im not really having any trouble ditching, suprisingly, as i've had most of this stuff for years, but still finding it hard carrying on when confronted with all the disarray created. Anyhow, i've done my drawers and folded them the kondo way, they look so fab, and sorted my shoes. I just have whats drying on racks left regards clothes, which i'll do tonight and some bedding which i'll tackle tomorrow, and thats it for clothes - then I think I need to tackle papers - the worst for me.

It feels like the steroid injection has finally kicked in. I managed to kondo my stash of weight watchers materials and cookbooks to my SIL today :)

  • I've been kondoing for a few weeks, and I hope these two tips can help somebody.
1.Donating clothes can be difficult if they cost us money, as it feels wasteful. I finally had a LBM when I compared it to going for a night out or a slap up meal. We don't think eating restaurant food as wasteful - and that all ends up in the sewer!

    2. I found the easiest way to transport stuff to the Charity Shop it to load it into my laundry basket, and pop it in the boot of my car. (Not the sort of basket we use for dirty laundry, but the oblong two handled variety we put the wet laundry in when emptying the washer.) Luckily my CS is next door to the convenience store, so I drop it in to CS and tell them I'll pop back for the empty basket when I've bought my bread/milk.

Thank you all so much for the inspiration, especially Grey Queen and jinny. (You two would make a good replacement for Morecambe and Wise!)
