  • Im going to tackle my teeshirts drawers today and shoes - was wondering if anyone had any good tips or links to the folding techniques - I listened to the posted audio and it didn't go too much into this - I would really love to try that on the side folding thing !!!
I'm very envious of the poster above who only has a carrier-bag full. I'm waiting till I've honed my skills a bit more on clothes and books.
Not sure if you meant me Polly with my papers - they are my worst thing - I had a massive purge not too long ago - but I do not really have an easy system for them so they just come back. Was just gonna use a file and plastic ringbinder sheets (whatever they are called) for receipts, passport photos, bills, etc. Any easy to use suggestions would be appreciated - im not looking for super duper, just something quick to get my hands on needed things.

How To Organize Household Paperwork: https://youtu.be/kLIMIZrECDo

I use this ladies method for paperwork
I posted a simplified method today on the thread
for passports birth certs ect they are filed in individual family members ring binders
I put them in zipped ring binder plastick pockets so they dont fall out.
Its been the best method so far for me.

For reciepts... I clip them together for the month with a bulldog clip and keep them in the 'intray' basket beside the front door. I got that from somebody on here. GQ I think. Its handy to tot up what youve spent that week I then file reciepts I want to keep long term
In the current year household ring binder.
my son was looking for his mountain bike receipt and warranty yesterday for its service. I just pointed to his personal file no more treasure hunts or paper chases.

:) Hi Picklepot, but it can feel very daunting at first, and scary and upsetting.

Thank you grey queen. That's exactly it. I have tried so many different reorganising, declutter books and forums that I am exhausted with it. Then I tried to poke my head above the rim of my mental rut and volunteered and signed up for the course and now its seems overwhelming

So, Picklepot, start kondoing your house: as you make progress, you will find your mindset changing too. This may bring you surprisingly joyful decisions, at the cross-roads! :)

Thank you I queen. Well the strangest thing happened. Whilst I was reading the thread over the past few weeks I thought ''oh well let see what happens'' . I have tried and failed so many systems in the past, so I folded my clothes and put them back in the drawers.. a month later the folding has remained neat and orderly and I keep taking a sneaky peek to marvel at how 'the messy' I am could still have such neat drawers. Then although its a bit back to front this morning I looked at all the clothes and though ''well hardly any bring me joy'' I hate clothes shopping mainly because its so difficult to get things to fit me. So I have started plucking from the neatly folded garments the most joyless out and they will be bagged and in the car for the CS shortly.

    .

My t-shirt drawer is my proudest achievement in kondoing. It's so pretty to look at! I fold each t-shirt in half so the sleeves meet on one side. Tuck the sleeves in to make a perfect rectangle. Fold the rectangle in half to make a shorter rectangle, then fold that in three. They all stand up on their open end.

    Hope that helps

  • Savedosh -yes, it was your reference to 'I only have a bag of papers' - I think I have a room full! I am not going to follow MK to the letter, I know that some things need to be kept for longer than she says - but I am determined to get it down to something manageable. Jinny's link above is very helpful although I'm not convinced I can do this, I'm going to have a go tomorrow at tackling papers. It's not just my stuff, I'm involved with a local charitable organisation and I seem to have ended up with a lot of random paperwork that probably doesn't need to be kept.

Picklepot - I have only begun doing this a couple of weeks ago, and have a long way to go. As well as finding that things stay tidy, I am feeling much calmer generally - I think this could have a lot of knock-on effects for other areas of life. It's early days though.

It really does. Everything is piled on the bed at the mo, but I can see me throwing most of it. Just one thing - do they not get a line down the middle.
  • Nevertheless she persisted.
  • I have just worked through all my towels. All are rolled and on a shelf bar the discards. Yay. Think the bed linen will wait for Easter week.
