It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
  • Started Kondoing today - sorted my very crammed wardrobe very quickly, surprisingly throwing 3/4 of the contents. It then sat on the floor for hours, while I avoided going into the room, mental lethargy i think - it happens to me when there is too much mess - I find it hard to think. Anyway i'm shocked at how much I ditched. Also did my bags, which amazingly fitted into each other as though they were meant to be there and the coats, belts and scarves that were on back of door. Gonna tackle my teeshirt drawers tomorrow - maybe my papers - I only have a bagfull (which for me is good). So glad I found this forum - I honestly do see a very bright light at the end of the tunnel.

:)maryb, that's hysterical. Be better to work out a psychological program for male human beings, those who should be taking a share of the laundry duties, than faffing around with robotics.

I had a rare moment of decision paralysis yesterday in my allotment shed. I have a trestle in there and had pulled out all my seeds onto the flat surface for sorting and about half-way thru the process, I suddenly lost the will to live. As in, couldn't make any decisions and just pawed at it helplessly.

Odd emotion for me, as I'm normally a pretty decisive person, but I got past it. It made me wonder if this is what my hoarder Mum and some others feel when confronted with Stuff. It's an alarming sensation and I can see why it would lead to avoidance of the whole issue.

Or, because it was happening at the time of the eclipse, maybe there was something in the heavens affecting my mojo.:rotfl:

Within a couple of hours I should have the folks up, we shall load eggboxes of seed spuds into boxes then take them to the allotment for planting. Which will mean I shall have some surfaces back for the first time since mid-Feb, hurrah. And, on my return, those eggboxes will be thanked for their usefulness and put into the recycling bin.

It' brilliant to hear of people's progress, but decision-making is exhausting, so be sure to build in times for rest and play as well as playfully kondo-ing.

Morning all, hope everyone is well, or as well as can be.
Not a lot planned kondo wise over the weekend, it's DD2s birthday today and she's expecting our first grandchild within the fortnight, both me and DH woke with the same thought wouldn't it be funny if she had the baby on her birthday. One things for sure it will come when it's ready and not until.
CS run, shopping and visiting DD1 with th stowed bale planned for this morning DD3 may be round this afty I need to get some cross stitch finished that a gift for someone and needed soon. I would have had it finished if I hadn't been so focused on kondoing.
BTW loads on Pinterest about Mari kondo and various tips and motivation if anyone wants a look. I spent last night making a board up for myself about it.

    How exiting. Your first grandchild!
Yes it's true the baby will be here when it's good and ready
It will fall from the tree like a little apple
when it's ready the olduns used to say!

    One of the posters Mummyrivet
very kindly made an MSE Pininterest board for us
A while back it has all the links and tips that we all put on here.
She has the same name as here.
I love Pininterest but I end up being on it for hours
so not good for my chronic procrastination!
Mumsnet have a great thread on MK as well.
I don't join in the convo. It's mostly young mothers that post
I just love reading their posts re MK.

  • I completely agree about the 'decision fatigue' and that's why I like doing this in short bursts. I know I've made some mistakes when I'm too tired BUT the next time I go to the drawer and reach for a pair of socks and then think 'no, I don't like those' ... easy, into the CS bag they go!

I have just cleared the kitchen table of assorted paperwork and filing as I've got friends coming round later today. This time instead of feeling defeated and annoyed with myself for being so untidy, I have just told myself that I'm going to tackle it soon and I'll never be doing this again (oh, I do hope that is true!). I'm very envious of the poster above who only has a carrier-bag full. I'm waiting till I've honed my skills a bit more on clothes and books.

Re papers you will get there Ive said so many times on here
It does go. I love my filing system now. I had a mountain of papers
and....my two sons are dealing with their own filing using
The ring binders we all have each....now that's truely amazing.

GQ, that is exactly what hoarders feel! (Voice of experience!)

I put it down to 'overwhelm'. I have, in the past, had a similar reaction while trying to choose bread in a big supermarket, but now I just go for the cheapest wholemeal! :rotfl:

Our lives today, are completely cluttered by that political chestnut, 'more choice'. Reasonably limited choice, illustrated by kondoed wardrobes, makes life less stressful and saves time. Too much choice, paralyses us, but was rarely an issue for previous generations.

So what overwhelmed you with your seeds? Too many varieties, where to plant them, or which to plant at all? ;)

Currently, I still have 'overwhelm' with, mainly unloved and unco-ordinated clothes - definitely many fewer than most people, (especially on MN!) My wardrobe remains full of confusion!
