    Evening all,

I have started kondoing the kitchen today - did animal related items (13 dog leads anyone?!) and the baking trays. Tomorrow I aim to do the book shelves in my office where I know there are lots of items I no longer love.

It's lovely to hear of all your progress :)

    :) Morning all.

Fmess, I take it that you don't have 13 dogs, then?:rotfl:

I am playing Tetris on my allotment, as have been working my way steadily up to the final corner where the grass is shaggy, the brambles encroach from the plot over the back and Things have been allowed to lurk.

Last week, I Kondo'd the last of the flowerpots hanging around up there, and yesterday, I hauled out some pieces of wood which were lain flat temporarily about 2 years ago and which got overgrown and forgotten. They are mostly lengths of unplaned 2 by 1 which I got given and which were slightly warped (the reason for donation).

I have propped them up to dry out and plant to saw the lengths into 3 ft bits to use as row markers. 3ft is plenty long enough, but the ends rot off after 1-2 years' use, and this way I still have usable bits of wood for more years. I do the same when I buy a new fencepost to add to my 'trigger's fences'. You need a couple of foot of fence in the ground and that bit eventually rots away. If you start with an 8ft fencepost, you can cut off the rotten bit and re-plant it and still have a usable fencepost. It isn't that much more money to buy the 8ft as opposed to the 6ft length where I shop for mine - the reclaimation yard.

Am now wondering what other [STRIKE]treasures[/STRIKE] horrors are lurking in the brambles up the back of the plot. And I have plans for a wee shed tidy-session as the folks are due to visit next weekend and I want them to see it orderly........... I've become shed-proud, whatever has that kondo-woman done to me?! :rotfl:

  • thought I only had the shed left, but it's weird now I have been decorating on and off for the last few weeks I keep picking things up that I have already kondoed and thought you know what I am ready to release you, maybe it's the lick of paint or maybe once you are under the power of the great kondo maestro you can't help but keep asking yourself if the item in your hands brings you joy!

Am finally on the last bit of the book - and am finding t's getting a bit repetitive now.

I kondo-ed my receipts/ guarantees/ instructions files last night - was 3 large (and overfull) box files. I couldn't do what she says and get rid of virtually all of it, but I did reduce it by more than 1/3rd. There are some still valid warranties which I need and I *do* prefer some paper instructions for things, rather than looking at the online manuals. There are also some sales particulars for some things which took us ages to source - and I've kept minimal details in case we need to try and re-source. I know that I shouldn't do 'just in case' but the 3 things I've each kept a sheet of paper for were expensive, unusual sizes and took a long time to find - and keeping the stockists details could be handy if there was a need (as was the case for one of the items)
I re-visited the files again straight after first sort, as the final file was quicker/ easier to discard things from than the first. I got rid of a little bit more, but am happy with the level I've now kept.

I'm in danger of looking for things to discard, rather than things which are joyous, so I'm going to take a slower pace.

What I've done has stayed done, which is good. This includes some things which I accidentally kondo-ed over Xmas (as in I did them kondo style but didn't know this at the time, I just knew I had to change my approach to how I'd done it before) - and I do get great joy at opening tidy drawers - and then using something from the drawers and putting it away in its proper place again straight after :D

  • I am inspired to download the book. I think I will draw up a plan of action and see what storage solutions I will need to help streamline my life. I have done my bedroom today but as usual I am left with an overspill of stuff that I don't quite know where to put. If I just shove in a drawer I am causing chaos in the drawers.
I need to clear my head never mind my cupboards and drawers.
I will give it a good go :)

Well today didn't go to plan again as I was very tired and got up late, had to hoover, so started downstairs and then OH finished the lounge and then my daughter and twin grandsons came round for a couple of hours, by which time it was 1pm and I wasn't in the mood to start anything then. So will just have to carry on and do what I can, when I can. It will all get done eventually

I am more decluttering than kondoing at the moment as we have French exchange student coming to stay on Tuesday. However I am reading the book at the moment and this morning found just the right box to put on the c o d in the lounge to put all my "stuff" in - diary, purse, library book etc. I am watching Saving Mr Banks at the moment but when that has finished I am going to find a couple of boxes for my socks and work tabards.

Have been in the garage today with DH.
Now we have quite a pile of stuff for the tip and the charity shop.
Have also put a couple of things on ebay and freecycle.
There is now room in there to swing a cat. Feeling very good about all of this.
Wierdly DH found a jar of home made jam, I had just about run out and was going to make more but don't need to now. It was stuck at the back of a cupboard behind some baileys, I am sure that I can kondo the baileys no problem :-)

DH keeps on being amazed how we haven't needed to buy anymore storage, and we have what we need already.
We have put out the table and chairs in the garden today and he needed some wd40 for the nuts/bolts , it was right there in the garage too, all forgotten about.
I have found some old walking boots, my gardening boots have holes in so I now have a replacement with the walking boots! :-)
