Just kondo'd some more books for the CS from my bookcase in the living room. I really want to do the ones from the bookcase in the hall, but I can currently only get at the top shelf as there are piles of "stuff" belonging to OH and DS in the way, plus a new radiator for the littlest bedroom, which is waiting to be installed when OH gets around to making enough space to actually put it in there.

At least it's only a small radiator, but it shouldn't need to be there at all.

I had to move DS's drill, which was also in the hall, into the dining room yesterday so that I could open the front door wide enough for my chiropodist to get in with her kit.

He won't even notice it's gone from the hall until he needs to use it, then he'll panic that it's lost.

I shall carry on with the parts of the house i can get at easily.

I am SO fed up of having a hall full of other peoples' carp :( It's really getting me down.

Sorry, just had to have a moan as it's no good moaning to OH and DS :o
my sympathies ivyleaf I know how you feel. I did discover though that once I'd decluttered and organised all my things and done what I could in the house my SH and DS1 and DS2 did eventually notice. DH started on his own stuff found it liberating and then insisted the sons tidy up too. hes still hung onto his machanics magazines though some 100+. in his defense he doesnt "do" computers so has them for reference.

Not too much Kondoing taken place, not much of anything really as I am lacking in energy, but have found and emptied a small drawer of junk and managed to fold and fit in my roll neck jumpers. We have a lovely Spirit of the Andes shop here, having subscribed to their mailing list (a real paper one:D) I get an extra 10% off their sale prices, so once or twice a year I buy a lovely soft cotton long sleeved T or roll neck and have been ditching the cheap and cheerful ones. I am a chilly mortal so wear layers even when many people are going around sleeveless:(

Also Kondoed a whole mass of hair from the dog, I could probably make a smaller border collie with all the hair, and she still is leaving a layer on the carpets:(, just as well that I love her to bits:D

I called into my local dog rescue shop today to see if they would take some duvets as we have upgraded and I might be Kondoing myself to volunteer in their new shop when it is up and running. I have wanted to volunteer somewhere for a while, but they all have stairs and my mobility is poor, so no help in moving stuff around, but the new one will be on one level:D

Not done much more for a while, but hoping to get on with some kitchen cupboards and maybe the top of the wardrobe this weekend. Might even get a bit further, but will have to wait and see. I am actually finding it all very theraputic.

Ivyleaf I really feel your pain. I have been valiantly trying to sort my small hall. I have a chair and a basket to pop all my bits in for work.

Yesterday when I left for work it was lovely and tidy. When I arrived home, lying just in front of the door was an exercise machine!

My eldest DD, who moved out 8 months ago decided she had nowhere to store the machine so thought she could bring it here. Grrrrrrrr! It is currently in the Room of Doom but will be Kondoed OUT asap.

  • I'm just starting out on the konmarie journey thanks to a couple of diaries on the Debt Free Boards. I've started reading this thread from the beginning & just downloaded the book.

I'm really hoping I can get the hang of this as I'm looking forward to a peaceful calm & tidy home that I can enjoy.

I have a feeling the process is going to take me at least 6 months .. It just took me nearly half an hour to konmarie the pens into one sensible place ( previously some in every room). I found 26 pens that didn't even work

Off to do my undies now :o

  • So it appears that this konmarie malarkey is a bit addictive:o
Whilst watching comic relief I have now managed to declutter 32 items and can't believe how fab my undies, swimwear & vest drawers look.

Can't wait to start on theory of my clothes but that will have to wait until I have enough time to find them all

:o I think the idea that she has about assembling all of a category together to consider it at once is revolutionary. And it's sometimes a shaming experience to see how very many of whatever item it is we have, all at once.

Oftentimes, we don't sort by category, but by container. We say to ourselves I really must sort out the shed, the garage, the spare room, that cupboard. So, we're sorting out the container, trying to make it more orderly, rather than really thinking about the contents and whether they are actually something we ought to keep.

When you realise that you own umpteen teeshirts, or handbags, or biros or whatever, you can start to question whether you have enough or too many, about whether you will use this item or had merely forgotten it existed as it was so deeply buried. How embarrasing to have so much Stuff that you're not even sure, when confronting it, whether it is actually yours or not.

I think this is why packing for a move tends to cause decluttering at one end or the other. Because you have to handle everything and view everything and start to ask yourself why you need 18 pyrex pudding basins or whatever. If they were peacefully lurking around in various cupboards, you might never see them and count them.

My kondo-ing has slowed, as I'm getting into the nitty-gritty of things and some of them are being used up and disappearing that way. The last of the 10-for-£1 little notebooks I got and found too flimsy to stand up to handbag life are going to be finished up this coming week. The pencil stash is shrinking steadily and, when I got out the pencil case from the drawer, I was pleased to see that it has gone from obese to skinny. I did acquire a new pen, but it was a gift from a friend with their business name on, so feel a little attached to that. Plus it's attractive and writes nicely, so have that in use.

I'm also going to be using my summer blouses over the next few months, so will start hanger turning then, to make sure everything is getting used and, if not, getting rid.

Unless something untoward happens, a donation bag will be leaving the premises later today, and a visit to a pal which should happen tomorrow will cause some other items to exit. It's all good.

    Morning all
    Hope everyone is well
Not planning on much kondoing today but I'm doing the Cs run so 8 bags and a picture are leaving the house.
Went through a box of old birthday etc cards yesterday culled quite a few but I also found a £20 note tucked in an old anniversary card and £5 in coins taped into an 18th birthday card DS1 got from a friend he's 20 now! That made his day, and the anniversary money has been given to DH to keep safe- if it goes in my purse I'll waste it on groceries. He'll save it till we see something we want

I found some paper vouchers in a Christmas card last year - still valid apparently even though now most store vouchers I think are plastic!

Kondo Tetris again this weekend:( Some unpleasantness has kicked off at work which means I really dont fancy any anything other than coming home and just doing what is necessary/essential at moment. I am hoping it will pass soon. On the domestic front we are going full steam ahead with some major home improvements which originally were not going to start until July/August when I am off work but it has to start NOW. So my plan to be 90% clutter free before work started has collapsed and I am feeling a bit:mad: about it. OH is very a very handy competent DIYer but is a b00ger for telling the professionals - Oh I will do that bit, and this and that - saves money he says My argument when its costing 15K+ it wont make any flippin difference:mad::mad: Anyway bit of a rant...........so now rescheduling everything around dust and rubble and my methodical approach is flying out the window with it..............

My kondo expeditions had slowed almost to a standstill as all the quick wins are pretty much done and I'm now left with the bigger / more difficult tasks that require time.

So today has been something of a kondo marathon and I am absolutely whacked, in a good way of course!
    • starting off with the freezer which is now all tidied and inventoried with a few old relics and items of dubious ancestry chucked out.
    • Washed the car
    • Cleaned and tidied a set of shelves in the garage that houses gardening stuff and got rid of a load of xmas lights, decos and assorted carp
    • Put together two little flatpack bookcases in which I intend to store shoes in canvas boxes
    • Sorted my shoes vaguely into the categories I envisage them finally being 'filed' and tomorrow they will be properly kondoed into a box designated to each category, such as sandals, sports shoes, flats, everyday work shoes etc

Meanwhile ironing and other more mundane cleaning jobs and chores are piling up.
