White satin your garden sound lovely.
    Belated birthday wishes to GreenT
Well done to everyone for the progress you are all making.

I've now got 7 bags ready a for the Cs at the weekend.
It's funny since I went through my wardrobe and cleared lot of unjoyful stuff out, I've been out twice and wore clothes that I had but we're tucked at the back behind the usual stuff I just pull out to wear because it's easy. Anyway I've had compliments both times I've been wearing outfits I've kept because they are joyful.
Rang my mum and she's looking forward to being gifted the suit I love but it's too small for me, so it will still bring me joy knowing my mum is wearing it.

Haven't managed to tackle my diaries yet, I know I have been thinking of it for ages but can't seem to do it, quite yet.

However, I did go through all my cards, birthday, wedding etc. (the ones I have received over the years), and got rid of many, especially from people who are no longer in my life. I have kept some Mothers' Day cards and Grandma cards, for the moment anyway. Really, when you think about it, unless they are hand made, I thnk it is just a case of saying thank you to them and recycling.

Having still not read the book I've been picking info off this thread, I went through my own bookshelves which are heaving. I've managed to find 18 which I don't think it will bring me any joy to read so 16 are now in a Cs bag, two are earmarked for the local night school and four that I've read and enjoyed but won't read again are ready to be passed on to my mum.

  • Room for another one?

I've been lurking for a long time and reading through the thread from start to finish. Like, weesmiler, from many many pages back I am also having a massive de-clutter/Kondo of our house ready for our baby's arrival (due at the end of July).

    I do have two slight snags in my Kondo-ing in that;
    a) we are in the process of renovating our house, so many things can't find their "home" as yet, but I'm hoping that once rooms get finished and OH's garage is complete that having less clutter means things will find their homes easily.
    b) my DH is a bit of a hoarder and keeps many many things "just in case". However he has been coming round to some ideas of Kondo-ing throughout recent weeks, like helping me get rid of many old cables/electricals that we just don't need any more. So I'm thinking it's slow and steady with him and once he sees the benefits, especially as the house gets finished, he will willingly clear out some of his clutter and help things find their rightful homes.

I've requested the book from the library, but it certainly looks like there is a looooong waiting list for it (been waiting since end of January so far), so in the meantime I am picking things up from the thread and going through things in the house asking if I need/want it/does it give me joy and I'm finding it rather brilliant! There have been 4 large bags of clothes gone to charity collections from the front door, many collections of general bric-a-brac taken to charity shops, a box full of DVDs/books sold to zapper.com (got just over £10 for them) and many broken items put in the bin.

We have recently cleared out OH's room at his parents and he has bought back to our house a small tonne of old paperwork, bank statements, etc - and when I say old I mean going back to 2003 and earlier! I am also going through our filing cabinet and getting rid of unnecessary paperwork. BUT when do I draw the line? Many places say keep bank statements, etc, for 7 years and then shred, but other people say keep for much longer "just in case"! Any ideas?? I'm torn, I've kept them for this long and not needed them, but there's always the "what if"...

I have kondoed a rug from our sitting room. :TOH liked it and said it matched the curtains. They didn't bring me joy either so they went too. I rehung a pair of curtains I had kept in the loft and they look great - very light and summery. :jI tidied my loft on Monday and refolded all the curtains ( about 5 pairs) and folded them KM style. So from Monday till today they are really creased so back to rolling up my spare curtains.
My arms ache now after cleaning the patio doors. Does my sitting room now bring me joy - it does:D

Welcome Miss I and and to All newbies to the thread
I don't post much now as my MK journey is almost complete
However I asume this will be an ongoing battle to keep empty
    spaces from being filled up.
I'm loving reading about people's journeys into tidying.
I'm going out more meeting friends and I'm finding Im less tired
by not having to manage laundry mountains and general household junk.

    Miss I
the most exhausting Kondoing for me was my paper mountain
Phew it took ages. I now have a brilliant system.
Most financial organisations advise keeping records for 6years
But I keep for longer say 10 years.
I never have to use it but I'm such scaredy cat I would worry
    It's really a personal thing.
I posted a you toob link a while back on a lady's system of
Dealing with her families personal paperwork.
I keep a basket near to the front door I open it daily and leave it in there
    To action or file
I do a quick sift recycling envelopes, junk mail ect.
I intend to file away keepers by each evening.
Each family member has a ring binder each
And there is a household file for bills ect
These are just kept for current year only
Then every January I will take them out sort through all that
Needs archiving then bind together with clips marked with the year and put in a box file for ten years.
I love my new system and although paperwork was my nemesis
I am very organised now and so proud of my row of ring all matching binders
I have different patterns and plain in the colour grey. Christian Grey would be proud of me!
(I had 6 bin bags full of shredded and non confidential papers).
I will try to find the link to the yoo toob video.

Here is the link for paperwork organization
I've tried lots of systems but
found this the best method for me.
I use a hole punch to store papers
    Rather than poly pockets
and ring binder zipped wallets for smaller paper items

I cannot believe I have just Kondo'd my cleaning trug and my shoe polish trug.
Dusters all sushi'd - bits of cr*p binned. Polishes stacked & cloths sushi'd and brushes stood upright so I can see immediately which ones I need.
I'm not really a Konvert yet but gradually doing small areas - need to get the book on my kindle too.
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
