Just had an email from the library, my copy has come in. Hopefully my OH can go and pick it up today as I'm not feeling too good so it will be something to read while tucked up in bed :)

Am giving serious consideration to kondo-ing my decidedly un-joy-giving OH..........

Other than that, have now made a start on kitchen and charity shop is now the recipient of several items of cookware :) (or, rather, will be tomorrow morning when I drop it off :D)

  • I'm still here, beavering away under the radar.
Last weekend was a bit of a kondo watershed, as we bought a new sofa. A beautiful, perfect M & S one from a charity shop. Old one was very raggedy and too small really for both of us.
This meant spending all day Sunday shifting stuff to make room for it, and stuff was everywhere. I was surprised there was still so much, just one bookcase was holding a phenomenal amount!
Everything now fits, the shift around seemed to inspire DH, and now the pictures are hung. The books have nearly all made it to the charity shop. There will be further culls, there are 6 that came from a library sale that I have to read first :D And its all starting to look lovely.

This weekend there was also a completely unprompted garage clear out, so a car load of various cardboard and junk to the tip.
Still to go is the spare room, the paperwork, then the dining table. Shifting the paper off will help with that.
I have Thurs/Fri off this week, so plan is to do the paperwork then. Deadline for spare room is May, MiL is coming to stay :rotfl:

We rent our house, and for a long time its felt to me a bit like we were just sort of camping in it (although we've been in there 6 years). Its starting to feel a lot more like our house if that makes sense? I think its to do with making deliberate decisions about things, rather than stuff just randomly being dumped.

I've not been around for a while - we were away at half term then we had no internet. I have been kondoing although not in the right order as I haven't finished the book yet. I picked it up from the library last week and am working my way through it. I am hoping I will be able to renew it so I can work through it properly over the Easter holidays.

I liked the idea of the little baskets in the bathroom (sorry I can't remember who suggested it) and asked OH to get me some small baskets from poundland. He bought some little plastic bathtubs which wouldn't have been my first choice but they do look cute and fit in perfectly.

I have found that as I am kondoing I am emptying plastic boxes which I don't want to get rid of but not sure where to put them. I did use a few today when I kondoed the coat cupboard. I think OH needs to kondo his coats - he has five leather jacket:eek:

I am finding the house more airy and light...still a way to go though.

We have a French exchange student coming to stay next week so that was my first aim of kondoing...I had to clear the spare room so ds1 could get into bed:eek: however I have to admit that with time running out at the week end kondoing became decluttering and I broke the first rule "discard before storing". I am happy though and the house looks tidy and I will kondo 'properly' in the Easter holidays.

littlegreeparrot we have bought a new settee - also from the charity shop. It was to replace the futon we bought when we first got married 23 years ago.

I am loving reading all the kondo stories:)

All my clothes have been thrown on the bed this afternoon. I now have beautifully neat and tidy drawers (and drawers!) the hanging rail is neat tidy and can all be seen, it was funny once I got into it I found myself picking up a dress and exclaiming out loud no I've never felt the love for you! I then said sorry to it and popped it in the CS bag. I now have a huge heavy bag to add to the CS pile of filled bags, a couple of carriers for the clothes bank and a load of ladders tights and ratty undies have been binned. I've saved a couple of nice but unjoyful bras for oxfam as they have the bra collection box in there.
I still have a pile on the bed but it's all joyful clothing so just needs folding and going onto the empty shelves after tea.
Then we tackle DHs hanging rails.

At the start of the book are quotes from satisfied customers and one woman had done just that with her husband and divorced him!

I ended up in the garden instead of under the stairs on Saturday - I wonder do leaves and grass count......

Not been up for much sorting, getting despondant as my hip and knee are so painful. Waiting for a hospital referral but now all I can do is look at all the things I can't do because of the level. My garden needs a lot of work but I can't see it happening this year unless I pay someone.

I thought I might tackle some books in the living room but I love my books, just looking at them gives me pleasure so I can't see me parting with many. My husband is also a book addict so that doesn't help. To be fair, he is better at passing them on to charity shops than I am. I have some lovely home/craft/gardening books which I do pick up to browse through from time to time so I guess while they still give me pleasure, they will stay.

I am doing a magazine swap with a neighbour who is disabled and has a lot of time to read. I seem to be able to part with mine to her easily enough for the time it takes her to read them anyway but she doesn't want hers back and they are so lovely (country magazines etc.) and they are piling up.

Today I have a garden company coming to do my front garden (hedge trimming plus shingle to replace the small area of untidy lawn) but I am seriously considering taking some savings out to pay them to tackle the back garden, which is pretty big. Health issues might mean that we have to move to a bungalow in the future.

As my recently deceased mother used to say (in her 90s), "Never get old". Mind you, I don't much fancy the alternative yet. Onwards and upwards......

This, and one or two other threads, really help keep me positive, thanks to all.

I think that paying for work that allows you to enjoy your garden rather than worrying about it would be a good use of some of your savings Whitesatin :)

I have far too many suitcases but they all bring joy. 4 suitcarriers ( will offer them to my sons) and even tidied odd rolls of wallpaper. I only kept the wallpaper which I have on the walls - had some from years ago. Loads of my sons games jigsaws etc and computer bits by the ton. A snooker table, train track made of papermache with houses, hills, track etc so just hoovered off the dead spiders2 loads to the dump and loads of cardboard boxes to the recycling. Now I just need to empty the hoover bag.

Hello all, I've been a lurker here for a while and I've been reading through the thread and find it inspiring, thank you.

Grunnie: I remember reading that suit carriers can be hung in the wardrobe and used to store wrapping/christmas paper. Just thought I'd pass it on. I've ordered the book for my Mum but think I'll need to get myself one as well.
