    Good morning everyone,
I have been reading this thread for weeks now and still haven't quite got to the end. :-)
    Such busy bees.
There's just DH and me. We have 30 years of clutter, but are both on board with this and have been clearing out the house.
At first DH thought I was completely barking mad when I was asking him if things gave him joy :-)
We have been backwards and forwards to the tip loads. Have freecycled, and I am not saying we have been to the charity shop alot but last time I went in there the young man knew my name ready for gift aid. Although I did buy a handbag on one trip there, but don't feel guilty as it does give me joy. :-)
DH did have a freak out moment when the cds, dvd's and games for the playstation fitted exactly onto the shelves in their new home. And he said I am mad when I said the house wanted the storage there! :-)
He hasn't read the book like me (decided to buy it on kindle format).
All our clothes and books have been konded and rearranged and look great.
DH has brought a large amount of books down from the loft that give him joy and they are proudly displayed and being read. I am wearing clothes long since forgotten about. :-)
As this method shows we haven't had to buy any extra storage, just having the baking trays upright in a shoe box makes things so much easier in the kitchen.
My large carrier bag collection are samosed and now hung in a small bag under the sink.
I could go on but we have done so much and as everyone here seems to understand the house now feels like it's starting to breathe.
We still have stuff to do, but there is such a difference already :-)
Thank you so much to you all for the inspiration :-)
    Jue :)

Right today I decided to tackle the trousers in my wardrobe
this seems to be not a problem

when asking if things sparked joy I found they did - all good so far - BUT many of the things that did spark joy are too small

done part of me know something that I dont know - will they fit me soon? I am trying to lose weight and it is going slowly

    so the big question is
as they bring me joy - shall I keep them (when handling them I felt myself smiling)
but as they are too small should they go

I really want to keep them as they do spark joy
    but should I get rid

I put on weight a few years back and only kept a few items that did bring me joy but were also classic styles and quite expensive. So mainly a couple of silk dresses and a velvet coat plus some 'black tie' pieces. I'm delighted to say that they all fit me now!! Only last week I got a compliment from a friend on how the 'fit and flare' shape of my coat suited me.

So I'd say keep them, especially if they're good quality and unlikely to date. Meanwhile keep at it with the weightloss and try them on from time to time to motivate you.:)

I'd say it depends how small they are - if the next size down, then keep them. If 2 sizes down - maybe, if good quality and classic/ will not date. If more than that, I'd personally say get rid - even if you do get to the same dress size you may not fit due to change in body shape - and you'll deserve a reward of some new things for doing so well;):D

There are quite a few items in my wardrobe which I've kept which are about 7-10lb too tight for me right now. I suspect that some will go even when I've lost that weight (am doing SW) as I just won't feel joyous whilst wearing them, despite the weight loss! :p:D

We have been constantly doing this for around a month now.
I expect this to take months to finish, aiming for the summer.
We still have most of the loft to do ( full to the brim), the garage, shed, photos, my works paper work, none of the paperwork gives us joy, but some of it has to stay!!
Found DS' s old teddy in the loft and will give it to him at our next visit, along with lots of my Dd's and Ds' s artwork from school, have thinned it out loads but thought they need to decide themselves what to do with it, it will give them a laugh :-)

Just 2 of us here as well and been in this house for nearly 40 years. I did 1 category per day with a few days in between to clear the stuff to the charity shop or the dump. So maybe 3 weeks in total. Did the loft this morning. I shifted each item and hovered under it then either turfed it down the ladder or put it back. I have far too many suitcases but they all bring joy. 4 suitcarriers ( will offer them to my sons) and even tidied odd rolls of wallpaper. I only kept the wallpaper which I have on the walls - had some from years ago. Loads of my sons games jigsaws etc and computer bits by the ton. A snooker table, train track made of papermache with houses, hills, track etc so just hoovered off the dead spiders:rotfl:2 loads to the dump and loads of cardboard boxes to the recycling. Now I just need to empty the hoover bag.

thank you I am hoping to to have this done by the end of the summer - I have been talking to hubby about his stuff which he now wants to do at easter - at first he just looked at me - now he wants to join in - then we tackle the rest
thanks for the information I think I need to do a bit of a timetable to keep me on track perhaps an outline then do each type in more detail as I get to it

thank you that is just want I was thinking - the strange thing is because the 18's are too tight I bought a new pair of jeans in 20 (for dog walking) they are m and s and I had to take them back for a smaller size =

I will be keeping all the 18 - 16 if style wont be an issue as for the rest there is not much in a 16 that does bring me pleasure but today they do - who knows if I do this again in three months they might not - watch this space-:rotfl:
    thanks for help

thank you I will try them on monthly - jeans and combats dont really date in the dog walking world so they can stay as can a few many pocketed tops - need the pockets for doggy things :) and an ipod

thank you so much girls - its so hard to know what to do in these odd circumstances - in the bottom of my knicker drawer I did find a half soverign - new and in packaging - and two silver crowns - I have decided that my dad gave me those and they are very very precious as I no longer have my dad BUT I dont need them they bring me joy but will bring me more joy to give them to two special girls in my life and their sisters baby due in september - so they are going but with joy and love :)

I really cant say how much this is helping the depression as I feel lighter :)

I really appreciate you all on this thread for your continued support and how this is a really wonderful and comfortable place to be
