now what do I do with things that spark joy but dont fit

I found its worth double-checking your feelings on clothes that dont fit. I had things in my wardrobe that didnt fit that I really loved but despite loving them and loving the idea of being able to wear them, I realised that the main feelings they were giving me were actually guilt and disgust that I hadnt managed to lose more weight. Keeping them, and particularly keeping them in the wardrobe with my current clothes was just a daily reminder that i wasnt doing as well as I should with my diet.

Oh, I am  with myself. I always though I had only one wristwatch at a time and I have found 2 old ones just now. One is even working, although it is one hour ahead of reality (until clocks go forward at teh end of the month, anyway). Have no idea how long since this was actually used. The other one is dormant and may just need a battery. Which means I was inconvienced earlier this year when I had a working watch only feet away and have wasted the £8 I spent on a new one. Grrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have put them somewhere accessible so that shouldn't happen again, particularly as I am discarding the hanging bag they were lurking in. Have also found a couple of small bits of broken jewellery, think its only 9ct but might as well weigh that in, they're tiny scraps and will only get lost again. One and half pairs of broken earrings, and I don't even wear earrings any more.

I've also pulled a fitted blouse off the hanging rail, haven't worn this in a while because the last time I tried it on it was indecently tight due to me being fatter. It's OK now and I'm wearing it. If I find I'm not feeling the love, it will eventually be chazzer'd but it was a favourite before I got porky. And am about to sling a load of plastic containers into the recycling bins, a deeply satisfying experience, don't you find?

this Kondoing is going well .It started years ago with Flylady and has now moved on to Kondoing. I have got rid of soooo muuuuch stuff. very liberating. and being able to find things is fantastic. its now moved onto getting rid of SUGAR. I have gone sugar free. since March 1st after a couple of days feeling angry and depressed I have re discovered a calmness I didnt think possible. Sugar is in so many things like soup and baked beans. make all my own now, am eating less not feeling hungry and am hoping to loose weight.

Read some more last night - pretty standard stuff - though I do disagree about getting rid of boxes - sons sold their computer game consoles much easier as they were in mint boxes - also buttons - people do sew the odd ones back on and instruction books - I do refer to mine - for washing machine and camera.

  • There is a section of the kitchen counter that is a bit of a man zone. This is where the DH keeps his loose change, keys, pens etc.

The etc consists of flyers for clubs we’re never going to, takeaway menus we’re never going to order from, Invitations to public meetings , council circulars . All going back years

This morning I noticed that the loose change was now contained in a couple of baskets, with the keys on top of one of the baskets.Pens in a jam jar and thats it , all the paper junk had disappeared.

I didn’t touch it so it must have been the Kondo Fairy

Having spoken to DH it would appear the Kondo Fairy threw out some stuff but moved the rest to another room.So maybe not the Konversion I'd first thought.

    Ah well Baby Steps .

Your utility room is lovely, Whitesatin.
Sadly, my kitchen is only a little bit bigger than it, so I am having a moment of room envy!
I am Kondoing quietly, it is lovely to see spaces appear again, isn't it?

Books done - a big pile ready to go out this weekend. I found a university text book that is about 5 editions out of date :o

GQ, you mentioned that you're planning to sell some old jewellery, and I'm sure I've seen you discuss gold/silver very knowledgeably on the boards before. Wonder if I could ask your advice on selling some bits of jewellery please?
I have a little heap of silver chains and a locket, 925 marked, plus one white gold necklace where the clasp has broken. I don't expect a fortune for them but I don't want to just throw them out. Will jewellers take this sort of thing to melt down/ use for repairs etc? Thanks in advance.

:) Hi allybee, I hang out with someone who buys and sells this stuff ; visit him several times a week. Going up there in a few mins. 925 is sterling silver; 92.5% pure silver. It's saleable but it's pretty cheap. A jeweller should be able to weigh it in and give you a price.

White gold is an alloy of gold and at least one white metal, probably nickel but could be manganese or palladium. It's rated in carats as well so the jeweller will be able to see what it is and offer you a price. It's an alloy, as is all but the purest yellow gold, and the price will depend on the purity.

As with selling anything, get a few prices, but only prices obtained on the same day will be valid, because gold and silver prices are determined by international markets which are moving constantly. Don't expect much money from little bits (I'm expecting about £1 from my wee fragments) but if it's otherwise useless to you, you might as well get it off the premises.

Precious metals are constantly being recycled. If they're hallmarked, it's easy to ID the purity, otherwise they go for M & A (melt and assay) with a few places in Lunnon. Well, stuff around here goes to Lunnon. The metal is melted and combined from that one customer, and a sample taken from the resultant ingot which is analysed for it's purity, that's called the assay. To 2 decimal places, I've seen the paperwork. The price back to the jeweller will be dependant on the purity.

Lots of 'indian' silver jewellery is in the low 60% range, much lower than sterling silver at 952 (92.5% pure). Silver bullion coins are 99.9 % purity. Sterling silver is so-called because our silver coins used to be of that purity, then half that purity then eventually base metal.

A solid silver coin of 1 troy ounce is 31.10347768 grammes and you can buy one of those on the secondhand market for about £15 if you're canny. A necklace will only weigh a few grammes, so expect an offer of about .07p per gramme. Most of the price in jewellery is the artistic quality, rather than the metal weight. HTH.
