Hi all , watching with all good intent to de-clutter before we move at the end of the year.

I've already charity-shopped 2 large bags of clothes and two boxes of kitchen stuff (tea storage etc)...and a witches broom..no idea!

Unfortunately I was ill over the weekend so haven't managed anything else, apart from coating our smelly oven with bicarb paste, to see if I can get rid of the icky smell!

  • ah, a breath of fresh air.

DH has finished the book and Kondoed his wardrobe. Whoopee!!!! his entire under bed drawer was discarded. Once we'd blown the dust off it anyway. Now I have somewhere sensible to store the 2 spare duvets and pillows (bed wetting children + visitors = no option but to have extras! sorry MK!)

I have also arranged with WOmens Aid to drop them my maternity clothes and baby clothes - just need to sort them out by age. I've a deadline for this of wednesday afternoon or friday at the latest as DH is off work a few days for half term and I'm not going to have the car on a weekday again for a long time.
  • Well the loft is done and thought there might have just been one or 2 items................ but by the time myself and DS had finished 3 bags of rubbish and a box for the CS!
    so...
    Kitchen done
    Books
    Clothing/shoes/bags
    Cd's
    Dvd's
    Record's
    Crockery
Lotions /potions/make up/hair stuff from bedroom and bathroom

    Various misc kimono.
    photo's

Pleased though because she does make you see things in a different light, I have always been an none hoarder but now everything I touch I ask myself does it bring joy and I can let things go much easier, It is also making me stop and think about everything that is coming into the house! so buying less!

and work is less cluttered and more organised

I get the magic, my brain feels less cluttered and I feel lighter and have more energy! :):)

Another car load to the CS mostly winter coats and jackets. Got a new thick coat for my birthday so don't need all the others.I thanked them all for keeping me warm. Also just finished sorting photos and had loads of frames that I didn't like so off they went too.

I thought I had finished everything except the photos and sheds but had another look at my linen drawers....I have in total (including pillowcases on beds) 37 plain white pillow cases! And thats not including the 6 ones dd has to match her bedding!!! Thats the joy of the salvation army charity shop - you can get some lovely heavy plain white cotton pillowcases (maybe with a bit embroidery on!) every so ofter for 25p each and I have been happily stockpiling...

So re-ironed 12 of them and gave them to step daughter (with 5 kids you can never have enough pillow cases!) I then re-checked the rest and got rid of another 5 that had mascara etc on them. That makes for 10 on the beds (we all like a lot of pillows!) and 10 spare...

And visited the Sally army charity shop today - being very choosey about what I bring back into the house...no pillowcases lol but did get 2 lovely coasters with cats on them - one for work and one for my desk (20p each) and as I am still going to go my photos although Marie K says dont think about storage I bought a nice photo album for 50p as I dont have any at all.

This is great for me as I do love a charity shop which is why my house was full to the brim!

  • I broke ranks with KM today, I have sorted but used bought storage. My muji things came today and they have made me very happy, thank you to the person who posted about muji. I have replaced a lot of bathroom whicker basket storage with the clean white muji plastic and two of the large vanity containers fit perfectly on one shelf in my tall shallow cupboard, 8 containers on 4 shelves and a long shallow container goes on my small glass shelf and two more vanity containers on the window cill. Yesterday there was mess and today it all looks very tidy and I can see at a glance what I have in there eg the tubes and bottles all stand up. The 8 baskets are now being stored in my craft room and I am sure they will have a new purpose soon

I did my costume jewellery today and now all in muji acrylic lift up lidded trays, in a drawer. I had difficult things to store today eg all the hair bits that I need put by for grandchildren, when they stay, all the bits that get dropped in drawers in the bedroom. All away now, not perfect by any means but will do

All in all a satisfying day, I suppose

:T Lovely to see new Konverts stepping up to introduce themselves and the superb progress happening all around.

I'd like to share the mystic power of kondo-kontaigion. Spoke to Mum an hour ago (only about 24 hrs after I left the parental home where I'd kondo'd four of her drawers; nighties and tops).

She announced she'd worn X top today (couldn't picture it, I refolded about 100 of them, some I'd never seen before). Asked if this was because it was now visible, and it was. Suggested she try to wear everything which has come to light, in turn, to see if it still suits her. I didn't dare get into 'sparking joy' in case she thought I'd gone off the deep end. :rotfl:

She also told me my Dad had let 3 prs of barely-worn underpants die in the back of his drawer (elastic perished) and she wasn't going to try and re-elasticate them, they were going to be rags, and he could buy some more if he liked, to teach him a lesson.

:o Then she admitted she isn't without sin in this area herself, and we agreed that Stuff is better worn than unworn. I do believe a chink of a ray of light is entering the hoarded house.........sssshhhhh, mustn't jinx it.

I've been to work, where I am using up old notebooks and old pencils, chucked another pencil which was down to about 1.5 inches and no longer usable. And took a bag of donations to the charity shop.

I find it very hard to throw out things which still have some use in them, like pencils worn to about half their length, and cheap notebooks with a few pages left in. But I am now making conscious efforts to use them, use them up, and then bin the last wee dregs. It's a good feeling.

Pulled out my crafty stuff this weekend. Sorted my sewing basket and knitting stuff.

This helped me to mend the 3 pairs of work trousers that have been lying waiting to be hemmed. Couldn't find the black thread! Trousers now away folded vertically ready to be worn.:)

Also went through knitting stuff. Found 2 half finished cardies, one lovely merino wool hat that needs Pom pomskies, and blanket or rather squares that need sewing together. On with the knitting it is. :o

    Getting there

Finding a new home under all the STUFF!
  • Back from my wee break up north, and on getting home, the unpacking took a very short time, with items going quickly into kondo'd spaces. So soothing. In the past, unpacking was a nightmare, and procrastination could set in, but now there is space for everything.

I thought I would have to say goodbye to a loved pair of jeans when away - a blue biro leaked onto my favourite grey denim jeans:eek:. We were way out in the country, no supermarkets nearby for stain remover! So I worked away with what was on hand - fairy liquid and posh handwash in the holiday cottage got a fair amount out, but the stain still looked very obvious - so in desperation tried hot milk! Success. :j So that is one less item to be kondo'd! :rotfl:

Personally, I wouldn't invite visitors that wet the bed - so ill-mannered! :rotfl:

Art shops or Ken Bromley online, often stock pencil extenders  so you can use them to the last half cm! :T
