I had to sew a button on for OH tonight and as I don't use my sewing box very often,:D so decided to sit and kondo it. I now have a lot of buttons and cotton that definitely don't bring me joy, but I don't like to just throw them out. Is there any sort of charity that collects buttons and cotton? I don't think the normal CS's would want them.

The St Francis hospice CS near me take buttons, cotton, crochet hooks, knitting needles etc., so it might be worth just asking your CS if they would like them as you might be surprised.

We've got an arts group which works with children and teenagers - they're always happy to take any odds and ends that can be used in art and craft projects - ask around your area for something similar.

    Ooh good idea.

I have just changed my super king sized duvet cover by myself :jafter following these instructions on utube. Wish I knew this years ago. Hope the link works.

    so chuffed with myself:T

Good one! I wondered if it might be more difficult to do the rolling when the duvet is way bigger than the bed? We have superking size duvet on a king-size bed, so it's almost to the floor on both sides.

How dumb am I, though? I have seen the corner loops inside some covers and never figured out what they were for.

Today I kondoed the dreaded kitchen corner unit where all the pots and pans and the little used appliances live. It's such a nuisance as have to get onto my knees and rearrange things every time I want to get something out of there.

So today it all came out and unfortunately not much there that I could part with or actually chuck away; although I will admit it is a bit OTT to have three cheese graters :D In my defence they are of different sizes and serve different purposes.

I managed to rehouse a couple of things to more appropriate places and now oddly it does seem so much more spacious in there. I had a really good think before putting each and every thing back in, so that I could make every item visible with the least used stuff tucked in the farthest corner and everyday stuff more readily accessible. Go me!! :T

Kiwisaver mine is a superking size duvet on a double bed and it doesn't have the loops in the corner but was very easy to roll up.
  • Thank the stars, I am raring to go today, all meals are ready, dh is out until this afternoon, archers omnibus on later and the last of my hm merino spun has been used. That jumper has turned out amazingly and I worked the sleeves downwards, (thank goodness for short arms) I had enough yarn in the end. Maybe that has energised me. It is lightly steamed and ready for a drawer. lol even had enough for a pair of fingerless mitts

Craft room today, I am starting with fabrics, do I love them or not. I am determined not to have regrets over buying all that bargain 4 way stretch viscose, what the heck was I thinking about. There is no way I will ever be making anything body skimming or hugging. I watched a great craftsy class yesterday, Sandra Betzina, about fabrics and uses plus about hems etc. I almost didn`t buy it as I have been sewing so long but was so worth the money and has made me realise that too many of my projects have not married pattern and fabric properly. Another tip was to get fabrics for coordinating garments at the same time ie top, skirt, cardi etc. I have a lot of what she calls orphans in my wardrobe and fabric cupboards. Made a lot of sense. I can see me rescuing zips etc today as I pull some ufos (unfinished objects) apart and realise why I never had the love to finish them

Now must change our of dressing gown otherwise I`ll start and be in it all morning.

No procrastinating today. Woo hoo, off I fly

Hi All - I was up at the South Bank yesterday & saw some funky button art (sadly outside my price range) that made me think of this thread & thought you might like to see it (never attempted a link before but here goes.....

I liked the map of Britain - definitely sparked joy & if I'd had a spare £275 it would have come home with me :-)

Do one yourself? How hard can it be? I was in "remedial art" at school :rotfl: but even i reckon i could have a go. I like the butterfly. seriously - draw the shape of a butterfly on a board / card or use a template (which I would have to) wang some buttons on.
I wanna be in the room where it happens

More than half the fabrics done and so far 2 stuffed bags for the cs, all nice fabrics but several are suitable for pinafores and trousers and more than enough to make for children. Soon, maybe today, I will dismantle the unsuitable garments that I made from those fabrics and have never worn. Tbh nice to be admitting it to myself at last :) Two very long lengths of 4 way stretch are going, nice prints but better for the slimmer figure. I did the stretch test as on the craftsy class and they didn`t bounce back well enough for me. I have kept several stretchy fabrics as they are thicker and bounced back well.

I now have skirt jacket and trouser fabrics in one place, I have lovely fabrics in there but out of sight was out of mind. What a waste. I took a shelf out of two cupboards below top units and a desk and that increased the space and visibility by a lot, the shelves just slid underneath the units onto the floor. I have lovely fabrics, tissue wrapped lace fabrics, pima cottons etc. So time to make blouses very soon and the thin plain stretch cottons will be turned into petticoats and camisoles, over time

4 good empty `really useful` plastic storage boxes are now empty on top of a book case in that room, did that today so a good result and the large storage ottoman type box in the hall is now not overflowing and the big space in the base of a unit is now half full. I haven`t touched the fabrics stored upstairs but they are all good ones, nice linens, boiled wool and some stretchy charmeuse silk, stored with moth sachets just in case. Trouble is I found a big sack of more home spun woollen yarn, entirely suitable for an aran top, maybe a sleeveless button fronted something or other, omg not yet though:doh:

Back on here and just weighed the new yarn. 1.9 kg oh heck, lovely too, bfl (blue faced leicester) and a touch of copper coloured manx (sheep) and all skeined up and washed, ready to use. Oh my goodness, spinning is so relaxing and satisfying, I get carried away. What a lot so got to face up to it and will do a tension square later and find a suitable pattern on ravelry

I suppose that actually using stuff is good feng shui anyway
  • Well after 5 days of being incredibly ill (flu?) I'm starting to feel a little bit better.

New desk and shelves arrived on first day of illness. Normally I would be really excited and be tearing off the cardboard but they have been lurking in the hall, untouched. I will try and assemble them today with luck. It helps that I love putting together flat-packs (I know, I'm probably the only one). I will try and Kondo some more books and papers while I'm at it. I also need to find a home for the printer but I have lots of side tables which I can try out.

Lovely and sunny here. Hope everyone has a good day.
