Well that wasn't quite as bad as I had feared. I have already two black bin bags full of clothes which I do still like but not as much as what I'm keeping. Done tops and bottoms. Still need to do coats, hats, bags, shoes etc etc. Should be done by the weekend but I don't want to rush it and then find that I've discarded just for the sake of it. My goal is to have just as much as my storage allows without squeezing things in.
Dunno what I'll do with all those shoes and bags. Will be difficult to let go of all the leathery stuff, methinks.
Can you find a good dress agency? For good bags and clothes might be better if you get something back. Similarly, shoes might sell on ebay if money might motivate?
For me guys, the bubble has well and truly burst. The acceptance that this will never work in the way intended in my household has hit my morale quite hard.0 -
Ahem... 51kgs of unwanted clothes were taken away today, netting me £31.
I can feel the house beginning to smile...
Birthday celebrations tomorrow and Sunday, so no sorting then, but Monday I begin again!!

Oh dear, are you still feeling poorly? Have the builders finished?Maybe you need to start over when they've finished and you feel better? Sorry to hear how low you sound, be kind to yourself.xx0 -

Thanks
My builders were only in for one day this time, but we'll probably always have builders popping in.And my health condition is chronic, though this has been an unpleasant week.
But really its about not living alone I think. My husband is great, but is only here weekends and is time poor. My resident parent is not great around the house at all, but buys more and more stuff ( we have three steam cleaners we don't want now, and the vacuums., and carpets sweepers....who the hell, needs a carpet sweeper? ....not someone with more than one vacuum!) and unlike a child you cannot put your foot down, unlike a lodger, you cannot kick 'em out, and unlike a partner or sharers you cannot sit down and agree things. Its very difficult.
There is limited room in my home for my things and the more of me I get rid of the more there is for others.0 -

No they are not that expensive. In any case I prefer a good charity shop to have the benefit of them. Besides, I'm freeing up a lot of space by discarding clothes, and with the kondo way to store bags I should be ok. Some of the shoes are somewhat worn and I've been wearing them merely for comfort. Time to get rid of them and break in some of the others.
I don't do ebay in any case. Not keen on any internet transaction tbh.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -

Well this sounds absolutely pants for you!! You need to have control over some part of your home, after all, its 'your' home too! There must be an answer.....with a chronic condition you need to avoid stress, this sounds very stressful for you. Big hugs.xx0 -

So sorry you havent been feeling well. With having builders in
and your chronic illness. Now wonder youve been feeling so fed up.
My Mother was a hoarder
she used fill the house with rubbish that nobody wanted.
people gave her bags of clothing and old shoes tatty old furniture anything.
The house wasnt untidy or dirty just cuboards were jammed pack with old tat. I loved my mother and now realise it was just the way she was. I just used to keep my own things and bedroom tidy
I dont have an opinion or comment, just want to offer my good wishes.”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)

and pull yourself together”

I'm sorry that life is so difficult right now, LiR. Know what it is to live with chronic illnesses, although yours sounds more impacting than mine. No pat solutions, just sending you (((hugs))).
Been spending the day popping in and out on errands, plus visited with a pal in his shop, for a cuppa and a natter, something we do a few times a week. I have arranged for a local shop to restring some faux pearls, which were my late Grandma's for £2 but will have to have a go at restringing the second necklace myself as they didn't want to do it (too many variations on the sizes of the 'pearls' to get a good result). I shall play around with it at some point myself.
Have kondo'd the laundry and put it away, and will wear two different dresses this week. Last year, I went all through the colder months before even remembering one of the things I've virtually lived in this month.
That's not happening now I can see what I own clearly; those items more appropriate to the season will get worn muchly, then I shall shade into middling-weight stuff, then the summer stuff.I still cannot get over the new version of me, the one who puts things away tidily and actually enjoys it.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Thats a lovely idea re stringing your Grandmothers pearls.
I saw a few videos on you tube on how to do this when I was looking to repair a broken necklace. You have to knot them apparently.
I cant believe how changed I am either. Getting into bed last night I took off my dressing gown and actually hung it up.”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
