Just got an email from the library to say they have ordered the book for stock and I will get an email when it's available! Yippee! Gotta love British libraries!!! When you live abroad you get to really, really appreciate what an amazing asset they are.

My builders were only in for one day this time, but we'll probably always have builders popping in. :D And my health condition is chronic, though this has been an unpleasant week. :o

But really its about not living alone I think. My husband is great, but is only here weekends and is time poor. My resident parent is not great around the house at all, but buys more and more stuff ( we have three steam cleaners we don't want now, and the vacuums., and carpets sweepers....who the hell, needs a carpet sweeper? ....not someone with more than one vacuum!) and unlike a child you cannot put your foot down, unlike a lodger, you cannot kick 'em out, and unlike a partner or sharers you cannot sit down and agree things. Its very difficult.

There is limited room in my home for my things and the more of me I get rid of the more there is for others.

this post really speaks to me LIR XX

I house share with my Mum, the original long long ago plan being that she would spend half the year abroad living my sister and that would be funded by me paying rent. It hasn't quite worked due to her health, although she goes aboard it is not for long!

We get on very well and she is lovely, especially now I am no longer in the hell of my old job. We only have one problem, she is a keeper and I am a chucker.

I have cleared out the conservatory, my room, gone through my clothes, my books, my "house stuff", done the sheds (!) went through a phase of going to the charity shop on a monthly basis! asked for gifts that can be used up rather than things that will take up space. All this and I sit in a living room with 3 cupboards RAMMED with stuff and Mum doesn't even know what is in there, her bedroom is the same, the kitchen, spare room all full. I have one shed(!), a bit of loft space and my room storage wise.

I had given up for a bit because like you say, you get rid of stuff and they replace or fill up the gaps with more stuff. Infuriating at first but ultimately very depressing. And it is very hard to stay motivated.

I do keep going tho, because occasionally I will tidy up and declutter and Mum LOVES it. So it is worth it. But Christmas was dreadful to be honest. Stuff EVERYWHERE, enough decorations to do about 4 houses! and presents and again the conservatory was a mess. Hence my latest push. Am bound and determined to have the house clutter free and full of things I love by next Christmas.
    Nevertheless she persisted.

Had a bit of a blitz in kitchen - cleaning and a I was going along I found myself doing the 'Kono Scan' eyeing up stuff that really has to go and mentally relocating other things:) So when I get into the kitchen to do a proper Kono Clear it should be a lot quicker. Got all the recycling out too which tends to accumulate at one end of the kitchen and gave the birds some well out of date partially opened ground almonds and ditto wheat germ :) Not sure if they will like it:D

Priorities today has still to be paperwork - going to pull it all out of the office and cover the living room floor then chuck straight into log burner. I have been avoiding it so far but did do some clothes yesterday as part of my avoidance technique - bagged and tagged ready to go later on today.

I am not very good at sticking to one category.....but its getting done slowly but surely!

Ok so two and half large black bin bags full of clothes so far. I had loads of scarves, so put six out for disposal. Looking good in wardrobe and drawers, with far more space around the tidy things. I've been left with three empty good, strong cardboard boxes of fair size, which I shan't dump just yet as they'ill come in useful to gather up all the stationery, odds and ends etc.

With very minor changes due to ease of work, I intend to stick as closely as possible to the book, therefore I do go through each category before moving to the next one - tempting to start on a drawer, then another, but when things of different categories are in there, I just gather what I'm sorting at the moment. So, clothes category almost finished as I still have to do shoes and bags (MK includes these in the clothes category).

Although one is not supposed to do so, I'm already mentally assigning the spare space to other things. Still, I reserve the right to change my mind when the time comes. :)

    imho

I just bought the same four piece set but paid over £12 for it elsewhere with free postage  ( I was under the impression I was saving about £15 )

I also use boxes and packing stuff I already had and DD who was visiting loves the idea of being able to organise drawers and see at a glance what she has. Her birthday is at the end of February so will get her this as an extra present.

Have not only sorted three drawers of my stuff but have sorted out DH's as well. Not sure how well he will take it but the intention is good. Amazing how many odd socks he had so put them in a carrier bag and will check there are no matching odd ones in the laundry before getting rid of them

I now need to Kondo myself as some of the weight I lost has been creeping (er galloping) back on :o

The book has been ordered at local library but can't get it yet.

Busy week at work but now the weekend is here and I am signing back into this thread with the aim to finish the clothes category today. I'm hoping that posting that here will make me feel I am accountable to you guys and help me just get on with it!

Well done Quasar. At least you have made a start now. Try to get rid of the bags before you start digging into them again!

They will be sorted with the shoes tomorrow. Today I'll tidy up all on the clothes (and going out tonight.:D).

Tomorrow bags and shoes. What I'm not sure about will be put aside for another look when I have time Monday evening. After that, it will books - and that's where the real heartache will start. :(
