  • Prompted by the prompt from NYD:

My target has changed slightly. I have just re-mortgaged (probably should have been in my financial aims!). After doing some research I realised I'd get a much better deal if I used money I had in my savings/emergency/repay c-card pot to make a lump payment and get me below 60% LTV.

I used up pretty much every spare penny not budgeted for, and had a thrifty couple of weeks but payday next week will sort everything out again. My monthly minimum mortgage payment is reduced by £80 PCM, which effectively goes straight back into rebuilding the savings.

It means that if I have any emergency I'll struggle to re-save the full amount needed to wipe the c-card that's coming off a 0% deal (£300 a month), but even if that happens I'd be prepared to go for another 0% deal (currently got two letters offering me this, though mid March is the "cut off" point on one) or snowball for a month or two if needed. So my aim is now to save up the full amount, or if that is not possible just as much as possible - my car is due for MOT in next few weeks, and I've had boiler issues since the day after I made the overpayment (typical) so preparing myself for some extra costs.

Downloaded YNAB for phone but yet to register. Not stressing - think this is shown above! On job front are good rumours re possible new work for us, but acting role is in place until May and will be nearer then when anything will happen.
First time I've done this, thought I'd join in.

    Financial

    - Save enough to pay off two remaining credit card balances as they approach end of deals (£1.4K on 0% til May, £1.7K on 0% til October)
    - Use any "unexpected" income over budget towards above goal or saving (worked Boxing Day + New Year's Day so picked up 2x full overtime shifts)
    - Assuming those two credit cards are paid off (my budget suggests shouldn't be a problem, having paid off more than that in the six months since LBM), then rebuild emergency savings pot
    - Finally sign up for YNAB and see what everyone keeps banging on about

    Non-financial

    - Not let any of the above stress me out too much or detract from quality of life or fret if an unexpected expense crops up. I have the leeway to keep my gym membership or go out for a (reasonably-priced) meal when I want, and if it puts the debt-free moment back a month so be it.
    - I currently have "acting senior" in my job title due to a colleague being off on maternity leave. Hope to lose the "acting" but keep "senior".
  • This year I really need to:

1 - Enjoy my holiday and try not to overspend too much - going to Florida in 4 weeks time paid for by my family for my sisters surprise 50th so just need spending money mainly for food - i have alot of debt but have managed to save some spends and reduce the debt over xmas :j Going next wednesday and still a big suprise for my sister :D all dollars bought and pick up tomorrow

2 - Keep loosing weight not set target but as much as possible - i dont diet but had started 30 day shred in November and was doing really well 9lb down but winter bugs and chest infection put a stop to it so need to be getting back onto it. Managed to keep 8 1/2lb off over xmas :j Still same no more off but manged a couple more of 30 day shred so going in right direction and i shall swim lots on holiday

3 - Keep things a little tidier at home and keep decorating little and often and pay cash - usually not too untidy but could be better and tidy up when i have finished with something would help. Ongoing looking tidy today anyway.

4 - Have set a target of paying £15,000 by xmas 2015 and would like to get to this target and a bit more. ;) - ongoing nearly paid £1k and will put effort in after holiday.

5 - Restart with YNAB i have the full version but never got to grips with it and i know its a great piece of software. Still not done:o

6 - Be more proactive at work, i procrastinate alot and i shouldn't. Am more up to date than usual ;)

7 - Await birth of second grandchild and also my niece is due a baby about the same time in August. Still waiting...

8 - Reduce the debt free date on my snowball by 4 months - i want to pay all our debt in three years and currently showing 4 years and 2 months but the interest is not quite right on it so hopefully will be able to reduce by 4 months a year for 3 years. Not yet

I didnt realise i had so many things to put down

Some progress but i shall come back with a big effort after holidays.

Hope everyone ok and cant wait to hear about these new babies.. so exciting:j

    I want to:
Continue to pay off debt - at least £5k this year - so far I've paid off £750 which is good as this is the tightest time of the year for me - when my pay rise comes through in March (slowest organisation ever!) I'll have an extra 100 a month to throw at it too.
Maintain at least £1k emergency fund at all times - £1k emergency fund in place
Finish my post grad degree (hopefully in August) - on track for this, heading into the last semester now
Be successful in my new job (I start tomorrow eek) - this one is up for debate - I keep being told I'm doing a good job though, I just need to believe it!
Build up enough spending money for our holiday in September to San Diego - the first holiday where everything has already been paid for without using credit :j - £1.2k built up at the moment and saving another £100 per month just in case, though we've been told this is plenty.
Replace the garage door, front door and shower in our flat - this is more of a long term goal, hubby has built up some savings towards the front door though
Start trying for a baby at the end of the year :j hubby in full agreement and possibly even keener than me :rotfl: - not ready for this yet, won't be an update til after the holiday :o

    Not much then :rotfl:
    Baby due 21/06/2017 :)
