Hi, I've been a lurker/random poster on and off for a couple of years now.
Hope you don't mind if I join in!
My goals for 2015 are:- Pay off the secured loan that forms part of our together mortgage £4500 (2 unsecured loans and 1 secured - tackling the smallest first)
- Sell our car to pay off cc debt and buy a cheaper but larger car without any credit (baby no3 due in May!)
- Only spend money on the things we really need (no added extras during a quick trip to the super market)
- Create a better, lower cost monthly meal plan and stick to it.
- Spend more quality time together as a family
- Stick to the small challenges I have set myself (saving £10 per month, saving £2, 20p and 5p coins and selling as much unwanted stuff on ebay as possible)
- Cut down takeaways to one per month
I'm sure there are other things that I should add but off the top of my head these are the main things.0 -
Af'noon :hello:
Quick update from me...
- Stay out of debt Check!
- Save £3000 I only managed £5 last week, it'll be easier once the extra work, which hopefully will start next week, starts
- Learn how to play guitar - this is on my list every year, and dag nammit this will be the year I start playing!!I can play A and E major - badly
- Create two blogs - one about being an expat (I'm living in Germany for six months) and one about my baking adventures I have one up and running, and looking to get the other one started next week!
- Write the children's story I keep promising myself I'll sit down and work on This is still very much on the back burner
- Start a function band for weddings and partiesI can't really act on this until I'm back home (I'm living in Germany until July), but I've started looking at what is already out there
- Create my own businessSame as the band, really, just doing research. Trying to figure out costings is proving to be quite difficult!
I could definitely be doing better...2019 Aim: Save £10,000
Don't sacrifice what you want most for what you want now0 -

On one of my very early mornings I have sat and read this thread and it's lovely to see such a positive thread.
If nobody minds I will add in my goals I have some financial and some personal I'd like to achieve so will split them into two lists.
Financial:
To have £2000 in my emergency fund.
To pay off my credit card.
To buy a new bed
To have £200 premium bonds.
To stop my husband buying things he doesn't need
Personal:
To lose 24lbs.
To sleep better.
To learn to run.
To complete a triathlon.
To drink less.
I have £800 in my savings account and save £100 PCM so it should be doable to get my savings fund. My c/card is being cleared at £300 PCM but want to try to increase this to get it cleared this year.
24lbs sounds so easy to loose, a lb a week and it'll be done quickly....yeah right. I guess drinking less will help the weight and hopefully the sleep too.Can I ever learn this budgeting lark? So far it's not looking promising
Lloyds loan - gone forever! :T
Bank of Mum and Dad gone forever!
Emergency Fund £1500 :T0 -
- Ring bank tomorrow to get remaining balance on my CC, divide it by 10 and adjust the direct debit amount to get it paid off by the time my 0% deal ends. This reminds me, I need to cancel the old direct debit as I want to stick with minimum payments and save it instead
- I will still have a bank loan outstanding but am currently on a year long contract so I plan to just continue making normal payments on the loan but save at least £300 per month in another account for the next 10 months. That will give me a £3,000 buffer in case work is slow picking up next year but if work is plentiful then I will use it to pay down my loan.Absolutely no chance of doing this for this month as I have a tax bill to pay this month. In good news, I've not been paid child benefit since September and , assuming they backdate it, that will pay two thirds of it.
- I get nearly six weeks holiday where I am currently working so I'm going to try to book myself some freelance work for at least one of those weeks so I get an extra weeks money for that week. Half term booked off, have emailed a couple of people but confident there will be lots of last minute cries for help what with it being half term.
- I must get around to ebaying some of the bigger ticket items I have laying around but have to admit I'm not looking forward to it and most of the 'smaller' stuff is being periodically carted off to the charity shop. My biggest problem with ebay is getting nice pics as I currently don't own a proper camera and these bits aren't things I can steal pics from the internet for.)
Drop 3 dress sizes so when my contract runs out at the end of next year I reenter the freelance world/job market as the slim old me (5 days into diet already ) I'm doing really well with this, I have started weighing myself at my mum's and I have lost 5lbs this (my third) week so, given I was even stricter in the first two weeks, I have to have lost over a stone. Really wish I knew what I weighed when I started out but I was weighed at the GPs recently so I'll ask them the next time I'm there.
Do the illustrations/photo montage for a children's book I have written. No progress here, realistically it'll have to wait until I have a couple of weeks off
Complete the mock up of new magazine idea I have to pitch to publisher. No progress here either
Declutter the house and add more storage.I've done loads of decluttering, the charity shop must love me!
Redecorate the house in a style that will be more appealing to others in case I can't find as much work next year and need to downsize.I've made a start here and we've also moved our large coffee table to my mums for the duration. The garden has been cleared and bark chips put down. We've had one estate agent round and another coming tonight.
Pay off the last of my credit card and never run up another, the end is in sight!Minimum payment only here I'm afraid
Be more sensible with money generally and try to build up a bit of an emergency fund while I have a steady income. I'm bringing lunches from home when I can and using my gift card if I need to buy anything else. Shopping came in under budget and we've not had a takeaway all week.
Limit my internet time with an egg timer. The modem was broken for a few days post Christmas and it's amazing how much more 'stuff' has got done without it[/QUOTE]I'm doing better with this, mainly because I've been decorating/decluttering!Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)
December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.100 - Ring bank tomorrow to get remaining balance on my CC, divide it by 10 and adjust the direct debit amount to get it paid off by the time my 0% deal ends. This reminds me, I need to cancel the old direct debit as I want to stick with minimum payments and save it instead
