  • Another brief hiatus and you've all made so much progress! Small stuff here, need a kick up the bum as have family visiting on Sunday so need to have the place spick and span.

    107. Half empty huge bottle of fabric conditioner - left in communal area of flats with a "help yourself" note, had gone by that evening
    108. Carrier bag of shredded paper from the shredder
    109. Carrier bag of rubbishy odds and ends - bin

Whilst I've not done a huge amount of decluttering at home I have managed to do some decluttering at work. I had a cardboard storage box in a cupboard which I have gone through and chucked out the out of date documents and some old marketing material. Everything relevant now fits into my desk filing drawer (with space to spare).

A bag of bottles and jars to the bottle bank. We don't have a glass collection so have to take it ourselves
An old rusty desk fan to the tip
Some odds and ends of food to the foodbank collection point.

Goodness, you're all incredibly motivated. I need to find some time to concentrate on decluttering, but my problem is that I get so far, find a leaflet/magazine/book and "need" to read it before throwing it out or keeping it!

I have some magazines that I need to read before I pass them on to my daughter (she passes them into work after reading them). Anything that I want to read before disposing of, I keep in a pile at the side of the dining table. I'm getting through them slowly. If it helps, you can always set yourself a target - get rid of X amount of items or clear and clean two drawers or shelves, then half an hour reading. That way, you get to clear your stuff, treat yourself for doing it, and it's very MSE as you haven't spent any money.

    Morning Newthrift,
We keep payslips and bank statements for 7 full years, but throw /shred the previous years car insurance as soon as it's renewed.

In reality We've prob got several more than 7 years of bank statements. I know I went through them several years ago as we had them going back 13years, but they need going through again. As everything is currently neatly filed, that will be way down my To Do list. I want to get the house more presentable first!

    Hth

Somewhere in the loft I have my very first bank statement showing the account opening with a deposit of £20 and an immediate deduction of 5 shillings for the cost of my cheque book  :o:o:o
A collectors item now I think :rotfl:

    122. Loo roll packaging into recycling.

    123. Rag binned after cleaning the laminate floor.

    124. Pair of shoes gone. I gave them to the dog to rip up as they had a massive hole on the side that I just noticed. I haven't worn them in a while as they are summer shoes.

    125. I'm cooking later to use up some vegetables I have kept in the freezer. I'm making leek and potato soup and a few other things.

Have been away for a week and you have all been so busy! I find it exciting to imagine all these homes becoming clutter free, charity shops benefitting from all the donations and new owners happy with their purchases.

Mainly clothes going for me - unflattering,or just stuff I don't wear as I am no longer keen on it.

    41. 6 jumpers/sweat shirts to CS
    42. 3 dresses to CS
    43. 3 bras to clothing bank
    44. Timberland boots which are too big also to clothing bank
    45. Journals to recycling
    46. 2 blouses to CS
    47. Raincoat to CS
    48. Tunic to CS
    49. Trousers to CS
    50. Ballet pumps to CS
    51. Juicing machine (cracked and leaking) to recycling
    52. Packaging for replacement - recycled
    53. Mail sorted and shredding, recycling completed
    54. Various bits of gift packaging rounded up and recycled.
    55. Stained blouse binned

Like others I like to get emails filed and empty the Inbox each day. I have only been doing this for 2015 and it feels really good. Hoping it has now become a habit!

With all the progress being made I am wondering if anyone else will still be doing this challenge by the summer? I will as have the garage and sheds to do, not to mention the loft!

I helped mil sort out her bank statements this morning so came away with 2 carrier bags full of paperwork to shred as her shredder is next to useless.
