Thank you for the warm welcome.
I've started with the decluttering:
1) Ancient pink fleece - clothes recycling bag
2) almost empty & definitely manky hand cream pot - bin

Hi, I haven't been on here for a few days. Everyone is making great progress. I think I'm up to number 52, so here's what I can remember decluttering since I last posted:
52. four small seagrass boxes crammed with paperwork, checked and sorted out. Most of it has been shredded or recycled (depending on contents). I have about ten pieces that I have kept.
53. cardboard box emptied and sorted. Contents rehomed under stairs (craft stuff for Brownies, can't throw out, but don't need it for a while).
54. three cardboard boxes of Brownie and Rainbow stuff sorted and decanted into two carrier bags.
55. above cardboard boxes given to daughter - she's having a new kitchen this month, and needs boxes to store her stuff while it's being done. Afterwards, they will be recycled.
56. two more cardboard boxes returned to veg man
57. various coathangers collected from different places downstairs and hung on rail
58. four empty storage boxes taken from dining room and put upstairs.
59. various boxes and bags sorted, with contents rehoused in the right place, put into charity bag, or recycled
60. son's clothes sorted out and any too small, torn, or stained taken to recycling (three bin bags! Mainly too small)
61. old duvet recycled
62. two large bin bags filled for charity shop and taken there
63. old carrycot taken to charity shop, along with unused cutlery tray and a couple of children's games
64. various pencil cases emptied. Pens into icecream container for checking. Crayons binned. Pencils returned to pencil drawer in hall. (I have a mini chest of drawers on top of the hall bookcase. The drawers have various stationery items. This means that if the kids needs pens for school, they can pick one up on their way out of the door. Sounds illy, but it works for us)
65. coffee table finally cleared!
66. carrier bag of old magazine given to daughter. Once she has read them, she takes them into work for others to read
67. last oddments of Christmas decorations finally taken up to loft!
68. several small items regifted to friend, who was filling party bags
69. various cables and computer leads, chargers, etc bagged. My son is going to sort these out and identify if we need any of them. Those that are not needed will be donated to my other son's special school. Last year, they raised almost £100 from selling unwanted cables
70. four shelves sorted and various items binned, charity bagged, or recycled
71. sack of wool taken up to loft. This will probably be Freecycled, but I need to check it through first, for any wool needed for Rainbows and Brownies.
72. various pieces of cardboard from around the house collected together for recycling. In one week, I have filled my new garden store with card. Although I have reduced the size by folding/squashing it down, and pushing smaller pieces into cereal boxes, I still have an awful lot! The only other thing in the garden box is the food recycling caddy. My new card recycling box has arrived (previous one blew away in strong winds a couple of weeks ago), so I need to transfer everything over to that for collection tomorrow. It won't all fit in, but I can put out a labelled binbag as well. Where did it all comer from?!
73. various piles of paperwork now rehoused, shredded or recycled. This has reduced down to one small wicker basket of stuff that I keep near my seat (latest Slimming World magazine, puzzle book, recent school letters that I need to keep handy)
74. slow cooker lid found! Not decluttered, but rehomed to the top of the slow cooker. For some reason, it had found it's way into the cereal cupboard, and as I don't eat cereal, I didn't see it in there for ages. I couldn't understand where it had gone, and I still don't know how it got in there
75. son's room partly decluttered - ongoing as not yet finished
I've also managed to keep up with daily jobs, and kitchen units are still clear.0 -
Saver-upper: What an absolute decluttering star you are! I'm in total awe every time I read your latest post:A:A:A. Decluttering my own and household stuff (OH is supposed to be sorting his own:rotfl:) is bad enough but you having to do it for several children who obviously have mountains of belongings is a real feat. It's the decisions of what to keep and what to discard that's the hard bit for me, gives me a real headache by the end of the day:o
Superrhinos: Was intrigued by your challenge. Saw something along similar lines on MSE last year but it was concerned with saving money instead of decluttering. I didn't join the challenge as I didn't think I could find so much surplus cash but I know some of the challengers were doing it in any order. So long as they saved, say £10 as an example, it didn't matter whether it was on day 10 or day 1. They just had to make sure they kept records so they didn't get confused. More to the point (as far as a decluttering challenge along similar lines goes) some people did the challenge completely in reverse. Sounds good to me when concerned with decluttering as you could do your biggest day first (when you are fresh and rarin' to go at the start of the month) and then tailing off through the month to just 1 thing on the final day. Just a thought. Good Luck anyway.:beer:0 -

Welcome back Vicky, welcome also to any other new or returning declutterers
Still working through the shredding mountain, shredder keeps overheating cos I do too much then it needs about a 45 min break.
Got a couple of mending jobs to do for DD1 then they can go back to hers. Hope to get them do this afternoon, also I've used a couple of balls of wool from my stash knitting blanket squares (I did have to buy other wool to add to it) but once it's all sewn together it will e leaving the house as a gift.
Found a bag bag of crochet ball I bought at the boots ale a couple of years ago, might turn that into small blankets and put it in one of the animal shelter appeal bins in the supermarket.SPC~12 ot 124

I don't find that weird at all. I've created a second inbox to transfer emails into that I might need to refer to or I transfer them to other named email folders eg bank, family, holiday folders.
My main inbox I check each morning and delete most of them afterwards or transfer if they need keeping. All that I keep in the box are important ones that I need to reply to or deal with later that day.

Thank you
Morning Newthrift,
We keep payslips and bank statements for 7 full years, but throw /shred the previous years car insurance as soon as it's renewed.
In reality We've prob got several more than 7 years of bank statements. I know I went through them several years ago as we had them going back 13years, but they need going through again. As everything is currently neatly filed, that will be way down my To Do list. I want to get the house more presentable first!
