That reminds me - I have a lampshade that doesn't fit on the lamp I bought it for. At the same time I bought a lamp with an identical shade and I've just looked on the cupboard where I though it was and it isn't there! I've no idea where it could be.

I've got a lamp in my hallway which I no longer like - the shade is a dust collecter so I should get rid of that one but I do need another there as it is a dark hallway.

    Morning Newthrift,
We keep payslips and bank statements for 7 full years, but throw /shred the previous years car insurance as soon as it's renewed.

In reality We've prob got several more than 7 years of bank statements. I know I went through them several years ago as we had them going back 13years, but they need going through again. As everything is currently neatly filed, that will be way down my To Do list. I want to get the house more presentable first!

    Hth

Thanks so much for that advice, I was wondering how brutal I could be with statements etc.

I've shredded 3 big bags so I'll leave it for now as the shredder won't thank me for doing more at the mo.

    Mrs moneypenny glad it helped.
Billie jo - well done you :j

I've been sorting out some paperwork and tackling the shredding today - the pile of paper to be shredded had been piling up in the study, so it feels good to have cleared that. For today at least - I can see lots more being added as the days go on.

I thought this February Challenge post on mortgage free in three is interesting http://mortgagefreeinthree.com/2015/02/the-february-fling-challenge/.

Basically you get rid of 1 item on the 1st, 2 on the 2nd, 3 on the 3rd etc
It may be a good way to keep focused and it wouldn't be too difficult to catch up.
Thanks for that - I had a looksee but will stick with this. I think I might be de-motivated if I lost a day and think it's going to take me more than a month to sort all my 'stuff'

I also emptied my emails. I know people find that weird but I hate having lots of messages in my in box.:D
I like to go through all mine and get down to one page on a Sunday otherwise things get missed ;)

I tackled a kitchen drawer today and - because it wasn't too long or bad doing it - I DID ANOTHER :rotfl:

    Out went
    some toddler's cutlery.......cs
    a spiral cutter thingy.........cs
    two old corks
    split sachet of flower food
    2 broken plastic forks
    perished elastic bands

Only three drawers left to do in kitchen now - then will start on cupboards.

I am keeping a record of de-clutter on my signature now to save keep numbering stuff. General recycling is not counted such as used packets, bottles and newspapers as they go out anyway :D

Hope you all have a throw-out Thursday

Goodness, you're all incredibly motivated. I need to find some time to concentrate on decluttering, but my problem is that I get so far, find a leaflet/magazine/book and "need" to read it before throwing it out or keeping it!

As well as chronicling things on here, I'm also keeping a list in one of my (many) notebooks!

    So, today's decluttering:

    3) Running phone holder for my arm. I no longer have a phone which fits it. Bin.

    4) Free hotel slippers, found covered in dust under my bed. Bin.

5 - 14) 10 arty/crafty "how to" books never used. To be donated to my class in school.

    15) Pens. Loads of them. Free ones from a charity that I keep because I feel guilty about throwing them away. So I've just thrown 5 away. :o

Thank you for this:beer: We have so much paperwork stuff and I know I could shred some so will set myself for sorting though over the coming weeks!

Have made a start on the spare room, couple of picture frames added to the CS bag and old bits of material I can't use, general rubbish is in to the tip back and Christmas and birthday gift bags are all sorted through and filled away neatly for future use.

  • 135 - 131. 5 old muslin face cloths. Binned as they have gone a bit too soft and stained.

My decluttering has slowed down a bit due to work being even more manic than last week! I've been doing 3 people's jobs!! Will try to get back on the tidy train at the weekend :)
