2015 - No Clutter To Be Seen

  • Yesterday I decluttered my home of a bag of lost property that I been storing since before Christmas!
The group I sing with had a big concert and various belongings were left behind. The bag has been sat in my hallway until I could hand them back. I know they're not my 'things' to declutter, but it is nice not to see that bag every time I walk through the front door!

Not posted here yet but have been following with interest :)

So far this month I have:

Old towels - friend who is a mobile hairdresser
    Bedroom curtain - CS bag
    Receipts - shredded and recycled
    Laundry liquid sachet - used
    Tins - CS bag
Unwanted Christmas gifts - CS last week
DS had a book sort out - RSPB book sale
Old computer - recycled at local tip
Fence panels - recycled at local tip

Trouble is, I live with 3 hoarders so it is an uphill struggle
  • Just found this thread. It might just save my life:rotfl:.

Very little time to read many of the posts just now so could someone please tell me what the 'rules' of the challenge are please? Don't want to commit to anything I know I won't mange to get anywhere near achieving, in which case might just lurk and admire all your efforts from a distance:o

I have no idea what the rules are, personally I just read and then report what I've ditched as and when I do it. I think some people are setting themselves challenges but you don't have to :)

hello carbootcrazy and welcome , there aren't any rules at all...it's just a group of people determined to get on top of their clutter.

Some people find it motivating to give themselves challenges and count their progress. How you choose to do that is entirely up to you.

You might want to get rid of 100 items by the end of the month, or break it down into 5 items a day, or maybe 365 items this year (which would only be one per day) some of us who are particularly badly afflicted with hoarding are doing something ambitious like 2015 items for 2015.

I think the general idea is to push yourself a little bit. I'm aiming for 2015 but because that's a bit intimidating I sometimes break it down into smaller mini - challenges such as completely fill the paper recycling box before its collected on tuesday, or fill a couple of carrier bags with clothes & textiles as I'll have to walk past the clothes bank tomorrow on my way to the station. ( I don't drive so things need to be leaving the house little by little but very very often! There's no wrong or right way to do it, you just need to do it :)

Most of us here also understand how hard it can be as we get sentimentally attached to physical possessions, so sometimes when you hit a brick wall or just don't know where to start or are just finding it very emotionally difficult then we can empathise and maybe suggest some strategies to help.

Absolutely. Like Casati says we are all here to push ourselves a little bit on the decluttering. I'm also going for 2015 which means I'm aiming at 6 items a day to allow a little slack. Most things I count singularly, but a bin of scrapped paper counts as 1, and the box of microsoft software cds also counted as one.

I've got the builders hopefully arriving Mayish and a daughter moving back home August so I really need to declutter some spaces before then.

  • HURRAH! One puppy crate gone and the £15 I got for it takes up a lot less space. Puppy is now over 2 years old and being a Dalmatian has not been able to fit in the crate for a VERY long time!

As well as general decluttering my aim is raise some cash in exchange for clutter. I think I might write a list so I can actually see that I'm making progress as well as watch my jar for clutter money fill up.
