  • Hi All,
I am working on declutering my house. I seem to have a lot of toilettries. Any idea what to do with them? I use a number of them and have backups for those which have been discontinued. Also spend good money on them. How do you decide what goes and what stays? I also have a number of knitting magazines (which I do use since I am a keen knitter). But I realise that these two are cluttering the place. Help?

Hi MoonJelly - would suggest scanning your knitting patterns and storing them digitally. If you need one, you could print it and recycle once finished? Toiletries are a bit more difficult. I've had to just stop buying any and use what we have in the house. Admittedly DH has complained of smelling like a fruit salad, but waste not, want not lol x
  • I'm working my way through a rather large toiletry stash myself so know how you feel on that one,
Re the mags how about going through them and letting the ones go that don't have any patterns in you'll knit, that would reduce the stash a little, I must do it with my cross stitch and knitting mags.

Dd3 made some more sakes on eblay last night so a big dolls house was collected and five bags full of stuff went home with her toget ready to post.

Moonjelly, I too found I had a load of toiletries in part- used state so decided to keep just one of everything on display until used up and then restock from the store. The stocks have gone down in a very satisfactory manner. I think it all started when family left home and items still got bought regardless.

Just decluttered a load of windfall apples to make a crumble. I stewed what could be salvaged from a mix of cooking and eating apples, stirred in the remains of a jar of mince meat found at the back of a cupboard (so no sugar needed) and it tastes delicious. Better than just throwing them all out.

Thanks for suggesting scanning knitting patterns. Why didn't I think of that? :o

I could sell the extra toiletries on Ebay? ;)

I used to have really long hair so I just stocked up on fav items when on sale. Now I have a pixie and still can't bear to part with stuff (I need help). And thanks for the tips on using random items to make crumble. I have lots of windfall apples (that never go to waste). I also use whatever pears we buy that end up being too tough to chew but still good to bulk up crumbles. :p

Thanks for the support. I feel so stupid for letting things go out of control in the first place.:(
