Old Raggedy Threads, while im cross stitching i put the snippings into a pretty glass jar over the year i get a nice mix of all the projects ive worked on layered up, they look quite pretty. ill post a photo of last years when im next on photobucket.
last years had lots of blues as i was working on titanic, this years will be lots of reds as im doing a celtic lady in a red medieval dress

Ah! I'm so slow at stitching I wouldn't fill a matchbox :D although I did finish a little fairy for DD on New Year's Eve. All my snippings go in the little sewing tin, then stick to my aida and my clothes whenever I stitch :rotfl:

Note to self: declutter stitchy tin tomorrow.

    Away with the fairies
  • What a great thread.

This morning I read the new frump to fab thread on the health & beauty forum. I took all my toiletries out of the cupboard and sorted and dusted them. I probably got rid of 10 bottles/pots including combining 3 half bottles of talc into 2, and chucking all the (very) old suntan lotion.

I now know what I have and I'm determined to use them

I'm on annual leave next week and I'd like to sort the office and playroom. Either ebay, charity shop, recycle or bin - preferably the first. My camera battery is on charged in readiness.

I also chucked a mug as I noticed it was chipped. I know I have loads that can go in the kitchen.

A bottle of bath foam which will make me itch but is in a pretty bottle ina wire stand so CS may sell it.
Grill thing on gumtree (so actually not gone yet!)
Old quite battered bag on Ebay, already got a 99p bid!
Nice candle in pot given to me by Sis and burned right down to end this xmas. Binned.
Tin from quality streets in re cycling.

Theres loadz more but its a start.
    :)

I'll join you if I may. It will be a bit of a struggle if I'm honest as ive been ruthless about decluttering throughout the past year so i'll go for one item a day.

    Todays offering:

Nail varnish.... had it for ages and its gone thick and gloopy.

we have a filing cabinet and it is by far the most effective system we have ever used. Even if I don't get to purge the files as often as I would like, at least it is sorted by category (and, for the most part, bills and statements are in date order). It took time to set up but it has paid dividends.

I believe that with financial stuff it is recommended that you keep 6 years worth of records. With utility bills I only tend to keep the annual statements as they are all paid by DD so our bank statements act as proof of payment.

something I started back in 2013 and need to finish is a 'doomsday file'. I deal with almost all the financial stuff, and if anything were to happen to me, OH would be pretty clueless. It lists all key info (who our accounts are with, account numbers etc, dates of key bills, contact details of key friends and family) in one place so that if something were to happen, I can refer him to ONE document instead of an overwhelming filing cabinet full of info.

Thanks. We do actually have 2 filing cabinets we don't use! One is full of documents from when we moved house 16 years ago and is buried at the back of a cupboard and the other is empty in my garage. I guess I need to dig them out, buy some proper files and section it all off properly. It'll take a bit of time but sounds like it will be worth doing and I can shred everything I no longer need. I just seem to have boxes everywhere at the moment.

    Can I join too please?

I was full of good intentions to declutter last year, but got derailed early on as OH was in an accident and life went awry!

I did mange to declutter loads of stuff at the latter end of the year but then ran out of steam! Here you can claim donated goods on your tax return that's that a good motivator to donate to charity. The down side is you have to keep a detailed list and photos so that takes time. Plus the charity store is 25 miles away so you really need a decent pile to make the trip feel worthwhile. I felt very virtuous though as I put the Christmas tree up earlier than usual this year and managed to donate loads of Christmas decs we hadn't used for ages right at the start of December when the charity would be more likely to sell them. So that was good. Still have some more decs to go through, will do that as I'm packing everything away the weekend as I'll finish reorganising it all at the same time.

I'm also going to declutter a bathroom ready for demolition, then the linen cupboard keeps threatening to burst open so it will be next! After that I'll return to the endless clothes decluttering. Hopefully I'll get that lot done by the end of January (maybe!). (Note I didn't say WHICH January! :rotfl:)
