Sorry... I am still alive... work was a nightmare then managed to get a cold. So, feeling very sorry for myself and spent last night wondering if I was in the right career, etc, etc.
Had a lovely day out... a walk then lunch out with a work colleague followed by an afternoon with my mum.
    :o

Today has been a spendy day but it was very worth it.
Lunch was £13 for both of us. Friend offered but I was so pleased at getting invited out that I was determined to pay (sorry, not very MSE minded).

Have been shopping today but will need to find the receipts for spendings... I think it was about £50 in total.
However, I bought some lovely stuff for the wedding (decorationy stuff which was all half price). Also bought OH a Christmas pressie (half price outdoor lights). He is thrilled.
    :embarasse

Have been told off by my mummy as we have filled her freezer with so much yellow labels, she is struggling to shut the lid. Our freezer is also full. It's mainly me and my dads fault.
    :rotfl:

I was also thinking about getting a fitbit but the price seems a bit extreme. Might ask for one for my birthday. Used money from OH's parents and his grandad to buy a new mattress which is currently doing some airing or something for a couple of days, and some denby dishes which we were needing to match the sets we got for our engagement.
    :)

Hope no-one catches any bugs from my post as I have sneezed at the screen about six or seven times whilst writing this post.
    ;)

Hugs to anyone who doesn't mind bugs.

    Good Evening, Turtles!

Thursday is nearly at an end and I can smell Friday already! Oh no wait....that's a crunchie bar *nom* I hope you are all filled with the Friday feeling tomorrow! :j:j

Rocking in with my 5th SFD :T

No money finds yet... I will be excited just to find 1p!

Thank You!! So Much to all of the future thread leader volunteers!! :heartsmil NST's are such a great team to be part of! :T I have drafted the list on Page 15 top post, so if you are happy with your assigned month just give me a shout and I will pop you onto the front page as confirmed. :)

    Quick whizz through posts:

speakingofart - Fingers crossed for your results! I bet your super pleased that is over with now!!

cupcake-queen - I agree with Fmess- Business related spends do not lose you a spend free day. I also have to buy items for work but these are reimbursed. Congrats on the specsavers, saving! :T

blubella - Well done for resisting that gravitational pull to the shops! :T Your food creations have made me feel super hungry- they sound scrumptious! Was the pun intended in the sentence...'I think I will have a go at making bread today...I am on a roll!! ' because it did make me chuckle! :)

Well done also for the extra CC payment and money made- how many days have you got left until your pay day?

thrifty- Super news regarding your resulting mood from smokeless days! Absolutely love your forward thinking regarding hand made gifts and preparing for Christmas already! The nursery sounds frustrating, sometimes it's good to rant though, so please feel free to rant again if you need to! Although I do hope they actually get their act together and actually give you some accurate information from now on!

CONGRATS Thrifty you are the first to report in a money find!! I love the dedication to retrieving that 1p!! :T Well done!

Calling- The weather has been super grim all day over here as well!

nannygladys - Your Sfds are coming along nicely! :T

Fmess- Hope you feel more cheery! It's Fri-YAY tomorrow! And it sounds like you have got some splendid social events to look forward to! It sounds like you have fit in a lot of exercise today- I feel put to shame! I spent most of work hiding from the rain! I am usually very active at work- especially as today I discovered that I have to replace my work shoes after two months as I have already worn holes into the soles of my new shoes due to the amount of time I am on my feet throughout the day!

Philae - Fingers crossed for the reversed luck!

rb6ac- Thank you, still great to hear positive feedback as it is instilling more confidence in going for the big change over. It feels huge to me as I have been with my current bank for 2 decades now!

apple muncher- What a super idea! Do let us know what you both find during this mini challenge! Is there anywhere in particular where you tend to find it more than others?

mothernerd- 'LoveaDove February is fine with me - lots more 'f' words to play with.' *snort* hehe! :rotfl:

Right-o heading to bed with a book before midnight comes and goes again! Keep Saving Turtles, you are all doing great! :j

Another SFD for me yesterday bringing the grand total to 6...I seem to be a day behind..have to be certain to get through the day before I claim it as a SFD!! I do have to go to the shops today as I am completely out of veg and that is one thing I cannot live without!! I will keep an eye out for roadkill too.

I get paid on the last working day of the month which is the 30th, only 21 days to go! I do have my savings pot full of change if things become a struggle but I am going to try and live on what I have left in the bank account which is approx £47 now the credit cards have been paid for the month. I do need to try and list some things on eb@y or Gumtr$$ for a few extra £. My parents paid for a ticket for me to go to Canada to see my son, such a lovely idea but I now have the pressure of trying to find the funds to go, I have included the estimate of spending money in my debt so hopefully by the end of the year I will be better off than I initially thought!

Yesterday I started making a felt cat doorstop for my friends birthday...it's not until June so I should have no excuse not to get it finished...it's quite therapeutic all the hand stitching. This year I am going to make as many pressies as possible!! I will keep you up to date with my progress. :)

Sorry I haven't read all of your posts but if you had a blocked drain in your shower you need caustic soda.

You can buy it in Wilkos for £2 bottle or you can be very money savvy and buy the Wilkos brand alternative for £1 a bottle which has exactly the same ingredients just calls itself drain unblocked or similar.

You put the whole bottle down before bed and in the morning flush it through with hot water, the blockage literally melts away as it is pretty potent stuff! I have long hair and despite trying to brush/remove any hair coming out this is the only thing that works.

I think £1 every 3-4 months is a small price to pay compared to plumbers bills!

2024 - happy, healthy, quality over quantity, buy nothing new (and 2nd hand only if NEEDED), mindful spending, nurturing myself and family, living for now.

Mortgage @ 31/12/23 £248k - too high, interest rate gone up - want this down asap!
    Debt @ 31/12/23 £16k - no interest - will clear over 5 years hopefully.
Emergency savings £4k - been ransacked over last year - needs attention :-(
  • Hi everyone!! Loving the posts. Quick update from me

5 NSDs so far. Spent only £34 in total this month! It makes such a difference when you are conscious of your spending.

Exercising most days and have another class booked in today - all the muscles are aching but feel great and stops me from going out.

Have to do a food shop over the weekend but planning to stay in otherwise and not spend money. Will keep you all posted.

    Good luck all!!

Friday apparently well according to Loveadove I have no idea. Yesterday ran out of house at 6.30am in pjs to put bin out, too windy night before, got half way down my drive, decided it was Weds and turned round, then realised it was Thursday and turned around again. Seriously I hope no one was watching headcase going around in circles on driveway. At least Kermit onesie wasnt on.

Loveadove - Happy to do April will get my Easter Bunny hat on.

Thifty - put me on yr xmas list your presents sound so lovely.

Cupcake - its great when we find new ways to save on here.

Fmess - Good for you, more socialising on my calender this year as well, does you good. I am going to look into a fitbit as well, tried counting yesterday how many steps did with dog, so difficult. Is 10,000 steps about 5 miles?

Sazzlebegood - go to Poundland and buy some plug/ hair trap covers - godsend. I have heaps of hair and plugholes were a nightmare without them, also stops spiders popping out of the plughole.

Spent 11.92 lidl yesterday. Stuck to list almost Cod/Broccoli Mornay was on offer and its so nice to have fish for a change.

Today will try not to spend, giving blood after work, then out to see local singer, who is really good tonight, hopefully bf fund drinks. Won't be drinking, think combination of that and lacking blood could be messy lol

  • 5 SFDs for me now and I should make it 6 today as I have a parcel to send but I am guessing postage is already covered as it's an eBay sale. Will be sure to keep an eye out for 1ps on the pavement.

I've over budgeted on my travel expenses this month due to not realising I have 2 days holiday booked.

I've checked my bank balance and I'm £25 ahead of target.

I'm trying to find a way to save money each day. I looked at broadband as received a deal through the post from EE but surprise surprise it's not available in our area. I've had my credit cards added onto my banking app so I can easily make one off payments and applied for a new card as my 0%s have expired. Not to confident in my chances though.
