Well my 6 day NSD run is at an end. 10:30 this morning I was absolutely convinced I needed to buy toast, and I was right as before I could even think about lunch I had the OH phoning me asking me to pick him up from work as he was having dizzy spells.

Nice long wait in the walk in centre (we don't have a GP as we moved out of the area of our old one and none of the local ones are taking on new patients...or at least the ones which I would trust are!) to find that he "just" has an ear infection. Actually amazed he didn't end up in hospital as every other time he's been to a doctor he's ended up there!

If only I could have psychic moments about the lotto numbers like I have had about toast lol

To counter the 50p toast, I've used my spend day to make an extra payment to the credit card :)

...So my afternoon ended in pain so bad my eyes kept watering. Just can't cope with sitting for 9 hours a day even with plenty of walks and standing for some time. Came home and stood under a hot shower and feel better now. On the sofa enjoying my new toy.

Hope Mr Mac is cheering you up! What a rotten day, what with your ice skating as well! x

    Evening all

SFD number 5 for me, exercise number 6 and LTW a number 3 :)

Tough day at work thanks to a certain colleague's behaviour but trying to ignore it and brush it off.

Also weighing up the purchase of a Fitbit as think it'd be very useful and motivating but not sure I can justify the expense this year.

Hope tomorrow is better at work- there is always one!

I am sure there are a few turtles on this thread who are very much in favour of the ol' fitbit and will be along to help you weigh up the pro's... mostly pro's. Any chance you could make some extra money or put a little aside each month and save up for one of these? Or set this purchase as a reward for achieving or making progress on one of your goals? :)

  • fmess if you're going to do it, now is as good a time as ever what with the sales!! Have you looked in Mr S. Their sale included some fitbit style pod which then had a separate purchase of 3 different coloured watch bands to shove it into. I know it was made by fitbit. In total it was less than £50. I debated it!

LoveaDove July is fine by me, no joke will start working on it this weekend :rotfl: - I am that girl who gets ready for her night out before 11am and then can relax until 7pm when I leave :D

Yes new toy making me very happy. I am getting the hang of all the swipes and grabbing and flicking manoeuvres you have to do to move around it now :rotfl: but it was a bit mental at first.

Back feeling much much better now. It is chucking it down with rain and I am just grateful the skating rink has melted. On my way home there were three parked cars with police tape around them, one shoved onto the kerb with a blatantly broke chassis, followed by one that had been concertinaed and a final one with the rear end completely shunted in. I am guessing too much speed and black ice were a factor but the fact that there didn't appear to be a culprit car with them makes me think it may have been a hit and run thing. Hope not. Poor people :(

Night all. Think you are all doing amazingly with your thrift and moneysaving ways. I do love our little community x

    Good evening Turtles!

Happy (nearly) end of Hump day! We are one week into the challenge already!! And some great progress is being made- well done on the sticking to lists, extra payments to cards, batch cooking, bargain finds and general moneysaving mindsets- what superstars! :j:j

Oh and also thank you for all those who gave feedback regarding 1st Direct- I think the move will definitely be happening. I will try and set this in motion over the weekend!

    I have achieved my 4th Sfd :T

    **Turtle Mini Challenge 1**

Right so I want to set you up for the 1st Mini Challenge of the month...Some of you will be familiar with this and others may not be.

Until the 14th of January I would like you all to start keeping a look out for any money 'roadkill'- ie. money that has been dropped and left on pavements, whilst you are out and about. These tend to be the old lucky pennies, but sometimes you can find exciting amounts like 20 pence pieces, 50 pence pieces and the faint worthy £ coins (these are very rare!). Any little amount can easily go towards a shop, in a savings jar or popped into a charity box- whatever you wish to do with your find.

The challenge is to see who can find the most 'roadkill money' on their normal day to day ventures. (Money down the back of the sofa, in the house or in the car do not count). It is amazing how many 1 pennies are overlooked! My Nan for years has always picked up coins she finds and puts them in a little box, once this is full she puts this towards her phone bill. :)

I imagine we will not be finding huge amounts in just 6 days but it will be fun to see who finds the largest amount, even if it is 10p :)The Turtle with the largest find by the 14th will be crowned Ninja Saving Turtle of the week! :) hehe. If you are out and about with others and are unable to pick coins up yourself, do get them to help! Also probably best to keep some hand gel or wipes on your person :)

Please post any of your finds...Good Luck! :D (please note this is a 'just for fun' challenge, do not feel that you have to take part)

  • Morning everyone - a rota sounds like an excellent idea, and I'm happy to keep volunteering to run the threads. However april is likely to be a really busy month for me as I'll be finishing up my qualification, so could I do may instead please? I'll be done by then and I think if I try to run one over the next couple of months and do university as well, the thread will probably suffer! :D Exam went well, thank you very much everyone for your good wishes, now just have to cross fingers and hope I've passed!

  • Good morning!

Thanks for the mini challenge LoveaDove I can't imagine I'm going to gain much from this as I'm off work until Monday and don't stray from the house apart from the school run but I will keep a keen eye out.

Here's how its all looking for me

    Groceries £77/£100
    Travel £8.90/£50
    SFD 3/20

I have a question on SFD - I run a business from home and had to put in a big order yesterday as well as nipping to the shop to buy ingredients. My order came to over £100 but was paid with using deposits I have been chasing up. I bought nothing for personal/family use. Not sure if I should count it or not.

This challenge is definitely making me think more about spending, hopefully I'm well on the way to changing my mind set
