It is pretty easy to know whether your in Whatsapp or a normal text messaging app.0 -
It occurred to me that when you first use WhatsApp on a handset it sends one SMS to validate the phone number of the SIM.
I can think of three reasons why there might be many of these SMS sent.
1) The user swapped the SIM between different handsets, without understanding what say happening.
2) The user kept going into settings and using the Change Phone Number option, thinking that was how you messaged different people.
3) For some reason validation failed so the message was repeatedly sent (I think this is unlikely as the user would remember the difficulty in setting up)0 -

Are you suggesting that it's the validation text that has been charged for?
There would certainly be one initial text charged for. It's a remote possibility that more were sent in the unlikely event that the user did one of the three things above.
However, you would expect someone to have remembered doing any of those.0 -
I didn't get charged for validation texts when I set up whatsapp and I did it twice (got set 2 texts)0
