Unified interface?
Isn't whatsapp.... well an app. Surely it's fairly easy to establish if you're sending a message via Whatsapp or standard messaging app.
No....on some phones you can receive all of your messages in one place. You can choose to go directly to the App or just send and receive directly from the 'unified' messages utility.
So if the design is similar, one could think that one is using WhatsApp, when one is not.0 -
Could she have been caught out by something like this?
Being charged for emoticons (smiley faces) as MMS/picture messages

I don't think whatsapp shows up in the actual messaging app on any platform (well, not iOS, Android or WP8).====0 -
If you replied to me, then 'here' is for sending, not receiving...
I know. We have no idea what Tariff is being utilised....it's called speculation.Either way the bill likely could be made up of SMS and MMS charges.
More detail will reveal the answer. Even adding an emoticon can convert an SMS to an MMS.0 -
This case is indeed a weird one as the OP is being charged for sending international text messages when they're sure that it's being sent via whatsapp.
So either the messages are not actually sent through whatsapp at all? Or there is a different issue here.0 -

Does on my BlackBerry. You can choose to have them all there. I do.
Do you really think that the OP was charged txt msg rates to use WA?
When the OP reveals the relevant details, we'll know more.0 -
You've been asked questions through the thread that you haven't answered.
I would like to thank everyone else however for their helpful comments so far and I will get around to responding as soon as possible.
My partner is on a limited data but unlimited amount of texts package. The number that shows on her bill is clearly identifiable against Whatsapp (ie you do a search on google and it confirms this). I don't have direct access to my partner's online bills at the moment but will access on the weekend.
I think it is important however to note the pattern of the charges. None for several months of usage, then charges throughout June, August and September. None in July and none in October. After October there aren't (and apologies for not mentioning it sooner) even any references to this number on bills.
What I do know is that with user errors these would have resulted in consistent charges and the pattern of charges makes no sense. You are either using something incorrectly or not.
I wouldn't worry about emoticons being used as even if they were this would be infrequent and not account for 100's of charges in a month.
Thanks again to everyone else for their helpful comments.0 -
Well what is the data package on the monthly contract ie looking at the orange website which takes me to EE website when I click on "shop" you can get 1 GB data and 1000 minutes and unlimited texts for 19.99 and 5GB for 30.99
people use more data these days ie they are going over their data limit and then recieve a bigger bill but I thought you can check your daily data usage like with my three paygo phone I click the three app and It tells me credit and data used ie 350 mb
And as for the whatsapp thing well sounds like a fraud or spam thing because obviously everyone knows whatsapp is used over Data networkLet them eat cake (Marie Antoinette 1765)0
