Whatsapp EE Charges

Orange (all a bit confusing since they merged). They still appear as text messages on the bill though. Even the ones that aren't charged for appear and still are appearing but not being charged for.
So are the texts that are not being charged for sent to the same number as the ones that are being charged? I wonder if she has a tariff that includes texts, so that the ones that are covered by the tariff are not charged for (probably UK ones) but the ones that are not covered are charged (probably international ones) if your partner is using text messaging by mistake instead of Whatsapp.0 -
What phone model is involved here? Perhaps the interface is as such that the person may think they are using WhatsApp, when they are not.
If there are actual telephone numbers indicated on the bill, that would be the case, as Orange have no idea as to which numbers are being sent to over WhatsApp.
Worse still, you may be using MMS, which would go towards explaining the chunky bill. It may be that the other person is sending via MMS and you are being hit with charges for receiving them.0 -
May it? Unless the recipient is abroad, I think receiving MMSes is free.NiftyDigits wrote: »It may be that the other person is sending via MMS and you are being hit with charges for receiving them.
Most likely it's free even if the recipient is abroad - like for SMS.0 -
How would you demonstrate what you ask for in your last sentence?
Click on the whatsapp icon (the green speech bubble with a white phone inside it) and then look for the conversation with the person you are sending texts to. You should then be able to look for the appropriate date and time for when the texts that are being charged were sent.
Are they there?
If not then go to your normal text messaging app and do exactly the same. Are they in there?
As others have pointed out, if you are using whatsapp correctly then no text number would appear on any bill. When I use whatsapp all that shows up on my bill is a charge against mobile data (in my case £0).
It seems more than likely that you are not always using whatsapp. Perhaps the friend has texted you without using whatsapp and then you just replied from that text which was probably normal text messaging.0 -

I am not convinced. Any link?
http://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Tips-Guides/MMS-costs-SIMPLY/td-p/1478209 - I am not saying that this is 100% correct.
http://explore.ee.co.uk/roaming/orange/france - this is definitely correct. Free to receive even when roaming.0 -
Lookie here
Combine that with a unified interface that allows the uninitiated to think that they are using WhatsApp when they are not and you have the makings of a chunky bill.0 -
Unified interface?
Isn't whatsapp.... well an app. Surely it's fairly easy to establish if you're sending a message via Whatsapp or standard messaging app.0 -
If you replied to me, then 'here' is for sending, not receiving...NiftyDigits wrote: »0
