It IS compatible with TTB fibre - but not with TTR fibre - I find confusing !!

If TTR are proving this difficult over the number check what other providers say. Given this sort of run-around I'd go elsewhere anyway on principal.

I wonder if your problem is that you in effect want to port an already ported number, if BT are the range holder for the number but it's exported it to TTB, perhaps when you cease your TTB service the number automatically reverts to BT (as the range holder) so TTR cannot offer you it, or it could be that it would take a little manual intervention from TTR,TTB and possibly BT, (who obviously have no reason at all to offer someone who isn't a customer any assistance) to port your already ported number from TTB to TTR and they can't be bothered with anything so convoluted, so imply your only option is to get a new number from TTR range of numbers...
you could revert the number to its origin by moving your service back to BT see out any minimum term or pay any early termination charges then move your number from BT to TTR, but you may not want to even consider BT,
I would have though moving a exported BT number from TT to Sky may cause issues ( 3 networks involved) but surely TT business or residential use the same TT network and all you really need it the tariff changing on your account from B to R but quite often what sounds simple , isnt

TTB have given me a contact email of someone fairly high up in the company to ask why the discrepancy between what TTB and TTR say about losing my phone number...
I have asked them and await a response.

"I am unsure of TTR processes however I have checked with TTB provisioning and we are able to upgrade you to fibre. If you are not happy with this then you would need to raise a complaint with TalkTalk residential and get a TTR CEO agent to investigate why they are not able to offer you this service. If you wish to do this you would need to email ceoexec@talktalkplc.co.uk and this will be assigned to an agent to investigate."

I have to say that I have had no problems at all with the service that TTB have given me over the years - compared to BT (who I was with previously)

If I do this (put my phone number into their systems) - I will get ceaseless calls from them trying to sell me a product - so, a good idea - but not in practice !!

Could be
How long before BT reallocated it ?
If never - what would BT have to lose/gain by hanging on to it ?

Why not just take the hit of the number change? It really can't be that big a deal as thousands of people have to do it when they move areas. I've probably had half a dozen different numbers over the years.

If it's really that important to you do what I said a few posts back and just get an additional line. Too expensive? In that case either port it to Vonage or admit it isn't that important.

The only other way around this is to switch over to residential without Fibre and once you are live we would check to see if we can add fibre that way, this is something I can’t guarantee but you will keep your number this way."

That might be the best way to keep your number. Here's the history of my transfers to/from TTR:

Nov 2008: Moved into new home and got new BT line installed and zen broadband:

Sept 2010: Moved to Talktalk Residential (full LLU), kept same tel number.

Sept 2013: Find out exchange/cab will be upgraded to Fibre in early 2014, TTR tell me i will lose my static ip address if i upgrade to fibre :(

Oct 2014: TTB tell me i can transfer from TTR but they strongly recommend i transfer to their ADSL2+ service first before upgrading to fibre to avoid problems such as losing tel number. Transferred to TTB on ADSL2+ and kept same tel number.

April 2014: TTB upgraded me to fibre 80/20 without any issues

If i now put my TTB tel number into TTR services checker, it says i can keep my tel number.

I think that I am on ADSL2+ Already - my upload speed has been 1Mb+ for the last 3 years +
But will this mean that TTR will be able to fibre me ?
The problem appears to be that TTR do not know what they are talking about .....

I assume that now my exchange has TT LLU installed - I can get faster (non fibre) speeds ?
If that is the case - maybe Fibre is not necessary ?
