What can these 3rd parties gain - it will cost them in postage, calls and man time on emails with no promise of reward.

I would not be surprised if most of the competition sites sell your information on, just like what has been said before my dustbin has room for loads of junk mail, my phone blocks 99% of junk calls and I already get 300 junk emails a day so a few more wont make much difference.

Morning Snakepilsen, When I signed up I skimmed through the t&cs (as many do) to ensure I was eligible to enter. The terms and privacy policy looked very much the same as they do for most comps - Can't say I felt the need to have a solicitor look over them before I signed up and entered their comps!!!

But to answer your question/s - No I wasn't aware and I'm still not.
