  • Proposed survey questions.
    • I am completely happy with this company and think their competitions should be allowed to stay on MSE.
    • I have reservations about this company. If the issues I have noted are addressed, I may reconsider. (You should add these in the comments below)
    • I do not care.
    • I've never heard of them.
    • I believe this company have acted against forum rules and should therefore be banned from future posts being allowed on MSE.

I've never entered any Sprinkle.com comps but I have been following the threads and Rich's comments and I'm a bit confused. If the people providing the prizes don't pay Sprinkle and the people trying to win the prizes don't pay Sprinkle and there are no adverts, how is Sprinkle managing to survive?

Pleased to hear that we don't vote on these sorts of issues! :)

    Me too. ;)

I agree, his doublespeak and reluctance to answer simple questions did nothing to allay my suspicions of this company.

Re Sprinkle asking winners to post here, I think there are 2 aspects to this:

    1) Does it make them a dubious company?

I've won once with Sprinkle and they did say something about posting in IWIWIW. I've never been asked to do this by any other comp host. But, I've often been asked to post to FB and Twitter about winning. Is that so different to be asked to post here (apart from point 2, below?) Perhaps Sprinkle are simply being more enterprising than other companies? I know that a lot of people feel about we compers, the way at least one person here feels about Sprinkle. Maybe they don't ask us to post here because they don't approve of our forum. I found it quite refreshing with Sprinkle to feel they approved of we chronic compers.

    2) Is it against MSE rules?

To me it's a slightly grey area. It's not unusual for comp hosts to want some promotion back from prizewinners. But it is against MSE rules to promote a company here who asks you to. But the onus is surely on the winner who does/doesn't post about it, after being asked. The rules apply to those who have signed up to MSE, not to companies who supposedly haven't. What I'm saying is that Sprinkle, as an organisation, have no obligation to MSE rules. Any breach of rules in this instance is done by those of us posting after being asked to.

To me, Rich came across as professional and reasonable. If asking us to post about winning is inadvertently inviting us to break an MSE rule, it doesn't make him/the organisation bad. The way forward is probably to explain to Sprinkle, in a friendly way, and ask them to be kind enough to stop asking winners to post here. If necessary we can add to the guidelines that the 'non self-promo' thing includes being asked to post here about wins. The irony is that we are allowed to post about Sprinkle wins as long as they don't ask us to do so. I've never thought about this as an issue before now. Perhaps they hadn't thought about it that way either.

Finally, I hope you will keep posting their comps, assuming they carry on running them after all this.

    Hello

    >> Did that information include the fact your details were being sold ?

They're not though, you will always opt-in with clear warnings but if you can't make that distinction, sorry.

On a more specific note, did you manage to delete your account snakepilsen? If not, do you want to send over your username or the email you used to sign up via the contact form or to my email listed earlier in this thread.

Thanks everyone for all the comments and I await an official decision.

    Thanks

I would not be surprised if most of the competition sites sell your information on,

There are "competition sites" as in sites which run competitions without a product/service of their own (Myoffers type, various "Freebie" and "voucher" sites) and they make money from your data (not necessarily at the personal level or without permission) and/or affiliate links.
The vast majority of sites which have some competitions are about promoting awareness/sales of their own brand/products and selling your details/data is not part it.

Nearly every site on the possible spam list is a "competition site" rather than a site that runs some competitions and the few on there that are not have been over promoting their own product not producing spam from having sold details on.
