If anyone's seen my House Wights, would they please send them home with a stern warning about extending their leave without permission? They still haven't returned from vacation!:rotfl:If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -

Our Dad always taught us that you should go to bed on NYE in new sheets. New year, new sheets, fresh new start.
Don't think it is a general superstition, just one I have picked up and stuck to.

Welcome to newbies and returners
Sorry, can't remember when I last posted. We had a very pleasant Christmas with my DS2, DDiL2 and DGS3 with us for lunch on the 25th, and we have had a full family gathering in Surrey over the weekend.
My friend remains in hospital (which at least meant that I could relax and enjoy the weekend away). She is still very weak and highly susceptible to any infection, but thankfully she is now able to eat a little without being constantly sick. However, she has been told that she is most unlikely to be discharged this week and may not be fit enough for her second chemo treatment in ten days' time.
We came home today to a nice clean and tidy house, so I shall not be doing much flying this week! A bit of putting away of gifts tomorrow, plus some washing and ironing to clear the baskets before the new year, but the decorations will stay firmly in place until Twelfth Night.
Hope everyone has a good week x0 -

Evening all
Long time lurker, occasional taker parter, but aiming to get the house in order for 2015, so the last week of the year seems as good a moment as any!
The household is full of 'flu currently, but I'm on day 6 and feeling a lot brighter (touches wood rapidly).
Back to work today after 10 days off, unfortunately due to the above, the bare minimum has been achieved ... i.e. toss washing into machine, toss washing into dryer and repeat ....
Monday's madness
Fold washing, sort into "non ironing" and "ironing"
Enter receipts in MS Money, ready to work out what money I need to find!

Wondering if bird feeding Flyladies can tell me the best things to put in the feeders this time of year. Thanks.
A bowl of water - vital, remembering to break the ice on it at the moment in the mornings.
The blackbirds only eat off the ground so I bought them some dried worms and I've been feeding the same blackbird for three years and I carry a bag of them around and always feed his wife in the same place on my dogwalk. I started out with ordinary bird seed from the pet shop bloke at the market and then OH realised we occasionally got a goldfinch, so I bought another type of bird feeder and some niger seed and then realised they wanted sunflower hearts so I bought them as well. And then OH saw a coal tit so we bought a peanut feeder and we've been given some free fatballs so we got a fat ball feeder.
To be honest, I've found that if you just want to attract birds a bog standard Morribunds wild bird seed feeder is the cheapest and most waterproof one I've found with a small bag of bird seed, and then see what you get. (The A1an T!tmar$h one has its hinge over the seed hopper, so every time it rains the seed gets wet, sprouts, goes mouldy and is utterly useless.)
What I think is important is that once you start feeding them they rely on it. The amount of energy they have to expend in cold weather after roosting overnight means that by the time they arrive at the feeder in the morning, they really need the food. If the feeder's empty, they're in real trouble.
I'm really lucky in that one of my neighbours' grandson loves the birds so she contributes to the cost of it all. The goldfinches are OH's favourites, so he also contributes and every little helps.
I went from the bog standard birdseed to this souped up version after reading one of Ionafan's posts about niger seed and goldfinches, having followed her conversations with Narco for quite some time. If I'm wrong about any of that, please will someone say so.
Hi Zed42! Welcome!
Yes, CY, I have received my Secret Santa parcel and I know the person I sent one to received hers, as well.
The washing up waits until the morning, Lamewolf. I can live with one used dog bowl on the floor because I am a !!!!!!. Mrs Dog may be related to your paying guest - she spent Christmas with a short haired JRT and didn't mind him half as much this year!Better is good enough.0 -
CY I have received my Secret Santa present, and I know that the one I sent also arrived. Terrific fun, with a bit of detective work thrown in....;)
We have enjoyed some lovely sunshine here again today, clear skies this evening, so suspect tomorrow morning will be frosty.
Shopping done, cinema tickets for tomorrow bought, and Turkey soup made. I also helped DD do all the packing up for Ds1's business, ready for the post run. In order to do this, quite a bit of the livingroom was tidied, although there are still piles of presents around.
DS2 leaves New Year's Eve, as he's spending the New Year with friends and they are going to something in London. He'll head back to uni from there. It has been lovely having him home, and I'm going to miss him.It is never too late to become what you were always intended to be0
