I agree, put your prices up for the makes. You can always reduce them in the last week or so if they don't sell, but if you start far too cheap then reducing just looks like giving them away.

I need to value myself better.

Today I didn't manage to finish all that I had wanted to do, but I am happy enough as several good sized jobs came in to do.

Yes I have an embroidery machine.
I'm also trying to learn how to use a new machine at the moment.
All the more reason to get to grips with it sooner rather then later.
I think that because I don't have much money I tend to forget that there are people who will pay more

Plenty of grandparents who want something personalized - a hat for each grandchild........family gatherings, even works dos or hen parties. Team sports shirts often have the ndividual player name embroidered on them too- bowling teams (ten pin and green) come to mind. The list is endless....and not just seasonal.
I think there's money to be made from it and because it's a one off people are prepared to pay.

Maybe santa hats and golf shirts to start with for Christmas ?

I had quite a few new jobs in yesterday to do, so I don't think that i will get much chance to practice on the embroidery machine for a few days.but the first chance I get, I will be.
This morning I have to take DGD to the outpatient dept for her eye test, so I will not have as much time to sew as I would like.
It looks like I could do with an extra few hours a day to get research done on prices and what is selling.
There is a craft/Christmas event in the school tonight but I'm supposed to be going to my friends engagement party tonight so won't be able to go.
    Such is life.
Time to get DGD up for school. She's most disappointed that I am taking her to school for the first hour.

Could you make sewing baskets? Or quilts? Quilts can be made from material short ends, and they do decorate a window up well...

You wouldn't need to just rely on passing trade. Etsy, Facebook, even Ebay has it's moments for these kinds of products.

I don't have time to make quilts- and if I did they would be so expensive as I would need to charge my time at £22.50 an hour to keep the shop open. My overheads without a wage to me are that.
I need to get the costs for odd jobs and one offs higher.
I also need to charge for consumables better.

the Santa sacks would probably work.
I shall see what the going price is.
I am at my Mums this morning, I came over last night with DGD to go to my oldest friends Engagement party. It was st the social club just behind my Mums house. So we stayed the night.
Having a cup of tea before I get moving and take DGD to Biggest of Mooloos to babysit for me while I go into work.
A lot of work came in in the last two days, so that will keep me busy.
I am disappointed that the Workshops are not being booked this last few months and so a lost income opportunity. The only one that gets booked is the children's hour in the afternoon.
But I can at least get alterations done instead.
I have three brand new machines delivered this week, as I am changing the machines that I will be teaching on, and sold off two of the workshop ones. The third is to replace one of the old machines that's started to burn out. It was nearly as cheap to replace it then to get it serviced.

I'm off to google some Santa Sacks. While my tea cools down. ( it's black as mum doesn't have any milk).

I can't compete with mass market items.
The fabric alone would cost me that, never mind the labour and the embroidery threads etc.
I would be hard pushed to make any under £10 and that wouldn't cover my time.
