Morning. I had a busy day as usual yesterday. I did the accounts first thing, I now do the wages every Sunday night and the rest of the accounts every week on the Monday. I just got them finished when staff arrived, and then I went upstairs to sew.
I unfortunately ended up sorting out some small (but costly) mistakes that the other dressmaker had made, and that had come back in. I am not happy. (Luckily for me they were problems that I could sort out), but while I was working for nothing income wise for most of the day.
The social worker came at lunchtime to chat and advise me on the situation with DGD and her Mum. She has suggested that I write out a letter/agreement to lay out the rules with visits etc
She has suggested a 6 month plan of contact details to put up on the wall for DGD. So she can know when she is to see her Mum. Somethings else for me to work on later today.
Luckily there was a good flow of work in to keep me busy for the rest of the week.
I had some lovely pictures sent to me of DGS 5, DGDs brother, and I got to see DGS 3, DS's son last night when I popped round to see them after work.
there is a huge difference between the two of them considering that there is only 4 1/2 months between them.
Today the other dressmaker is coming in, so the start of the day will be difficult for me as I will have to talk to her about checking her work etc before signing them off.
Time to get a move on.

I'm at my Mums. Biggest of Mooloos and I have just painted the bathroom for her. It will need another coat by I will have to go to get DGD from school before it will be dry, so another visit will be needed.
I have changed the beds, and put the washing machine on.
I will be back over here again after I have collected Dgd, to come and babysit, so Biggest can do a school fete. So we will stay the night because her partner is away on business.
Staff have phoned and said there was a lot of work to do so they were staying on a bit later.
It looks like I'm going to be working at the weekend as well as my normal hours, and Thursday evening.

I am very very tired, I didn't have a very good night sleep so think today is going to be a long day!
The kettle is going to be my best friend today.
I shall just have to take one job at a time and not worry about anything. Knowing that I can only do one thing at a time, and as long as I keep doing I will get to the end of each job and be free to start the next one.
Time to get it on now, and get ready to go home and get DGD ready for her Creating Christmas at school and the start of excitement for her.

  • sorry but i have to ask
could your mum have afforded to pay a painter to paint her bathroom?
surely doing extra stuff like this is just going to pile on the pressure and tire you out

She probably could have, but I am still very much a do it myself if I can, and why squander her money when she may need it for something else.
But you do have a point, I have enough to get on with really.

I am at work, just stopped for a cuppa.
Been adding up, reviewing the work that was done in my absence and the work still to do.
20 jobs to do over the next few days, and most of them are big jobs.
I shall think of the money to get in the bank when all are done😋

Mooloo - I find your posts interesting, and I know that you value the to-and-fro of ideas. I admire your dedication to your family and your determination.

Something slightly concerns me: I live not far from you (not in your immediate vicinity). When you post about your family, I think they might be identifiable, but as you are their lynch-pin, I think whatever helps you is OK.
However, you posted about a worker, the quality of their work, before you had discussed it with them. I couldn't identify them, but it wouldn't be difficult.

This is just a gentle heads-up. I do think that most of us who read your posts would be respectful of what you write, as we wish to be supportive, but it is a public forum. Please take this in the spirit in which it is intended, and hope the work continues to flow well.

    Point taken. You are right.
I forget that I write this as I think it, and don't tend to edit it.
I will be more careful in the future.

I'm still thawing out by the inch from standing in the rain watching all the choirs, the rock a billy group and the celebrations to turn on the Christmas lights in town.
I re-lined a very large set of curtains, which took me all day. Minus an hour while teaching the children to sew.
All in all a good week st work, now I am just waiting for the people to collect and pay. I have scraped up the rent, and by the time the bank card transactions clear the staff wages too.
    Phew!

Here's to a good week ahead with plenty of jobs and people paying (cash;))
So my cash flow is improved. There is quite a lot of work waiting to be paid for.
Today staff is coming in at 11am as I have yet more curtains to finish today that the customer is bringing in this morning and needs before the close of the day. Then I have a house visit to measure up blinds for another lady, this afternoon.
Last weeks credit card transactions have not got to the accounts yet, that's why I find it tough at times, due to the lack of funds sitting in the accounts.
DGD is yet again trying to get out of going to school. It seems to be every morning now that she says she isn't well. I know she is fine. But I still feel cruel saying tough that she has to go to school either because I have to go to work or because I would get into trouble if she wasn't at school.
My Mum is unwell, she has a cough and a cold, but I Skype her everyday to see if she needs anything. She is telling me to keep away till she's better so I don't get ill. Mind you when I went to bed last night my skin was aching, the small of my back etc felt "crawly", like it goes when you get flu, so I am surprised that I feel ok so far.
On ,Saturday someone donated a bag of beautiful clothes to me to sell or upcycle as I saw fit. Which was lovely of her. I am lucky that people are willing me to succeed.
Last night I had two new orders for the thermal cooking bags, via the power of blogging. There has been a steady little trickle of orders since the weather turned colder.
Time for the school run and off to work.
Here's to a good day for everyone.
