Well today went well. With card transactions and cash takings were on target £153.
This evening I had a house to visit to quote for blinds. Another £180 worth of work ordered. With about £80 more in through the door as well. So I have a good amount of work to do.
DGD doesn't want to go to Brownies again. I think the dark nights are putting her off. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Yesterday the Brownies leader popped in to the shop to see how DGD was as she missed two weeks and to tell her it's come dressed for Xmas as it's the last one next week.
I had a good day again, with not so much money coming in, but jobs to do etc, and in the afternoon I spent a baffling hour trying to get the embroidery machine to work.
I came home defeated but today, I was in early and I read the instructions and followed through, and fiddled, and faffed and yeah!!! I got it to sew. But it keeps stopping and telling me the thread is broken when it isn't. So that's the next thing I need to learn.
My other lady who sews was in both days, and I left her working on a coat when I had to go and get DGD from school. DGD is a King in the school concert that's being held in the church tomorrow night. I will need to leave work early to collect her and get her there tomorrow night for the performance.
Today she is down stairs talking/playing with the Social Worker who has been assigned to us, and I am in my bedroom with my feet up, catching up on things on line etc. When she has finished we need to go out so I can collect some sheets for my sewing project, thermal bags, and the charity bags I do when I can. Then pop back to work to close up properly and see if I can get that machine to finish the embroidery that it was in the middle of doing when I had to go.
We had a good morning, with £103 worth of collections etc paid for and a lot of new jobs in. For a Wednesday it was extremely busy.
I hope that it's going ok downstairsWhen I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Mooloo, as well as realistic pricing for alterations etc, you must make sure you don't give people unrealistic time expectations. I mentioned that skirt I had altered the other day, it was great that they managed to do it in less than a week so I could pick it up before going away, but honestly if they'd said 'no chance' then that would have been fine.Signature removed for peace of mind0

Mostly I tell people it is about 7 day turn around, longer if I need to order zips etc.
Looking at what came in on the large jobs side, my coming week is full.
Today staff is in, while I sew, so she will be asked to tell people that it will be 7-10 days to take the pressure off, and no more blinds can be made with a guarantee before Christmas.
This morning I have a dealer coming to see about buying a job lot of my stock of clothes, to clear the cupboard spaces and hopefully get a bit of cash flow. I had hoped my daughter was going to be doing the clothes on line for me, but her forever living has taken hold, and she never did any, just stored what she had in my Mums shed so there was no point giving her more to do, and I will probably knock the clothes side on the head, as it took up lots of room, time and energy for little reward. Yesterday I heard someone outside say I was a charity shop, and it's not the first time, so I certainly want to move away from that image. Not that I have anything against charity shops, I used to manage two back before babies and bills, but it's the sewing I want to bring them in for.
Time to finish my cup of tea and make a move, get DGD ready for school and the wet washing strung round the house to dry like Mrs wishywashy. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Well I got £250 for the stock. Not exactly a fortune, but cash in the bank and three storage cupboards freed up to use for the fabrics etc etc. Tomorrow before I do the first of 3 blinds I have to clear the workshop as we pulled everything out to get to the clothes at the back.
Then all systems go as the lining arrived today.
I did manage to make one blind today, but cutting the poles with a junior hacksaw was hard work.
I also did other jobs but just a few small ones as the morning was tied up with the clothes, and then rearranging the middle floor as I was cold sitting next to the window.
Tonight was DGD's Christmas school concert. She was the first King, and had the gold she said. It was held in the local church. It was very good.
I had a choked teary moment as she got up to walk down the isle. Silly granny. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

I tear up at the church nativity play, and it's many years since any of mine were in it!
Mind you I sometimes spot our stripey dressing gowns, which I passed on when the boys outgrew them ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
DGD was sent home from school this morning because she said she felt sick. So she had to come back to work with me. Now if she was really ill I wouldn't mind. But it was clear as soon as I picked her up that there was nothing wrong with her. So she was bored at work and I was unable to do the bigger important jobs because she was demanding attention etc.
So annoyed with the school for being so quick to send her home. What happened to time in the nurses room to be observed?
I am lucky as I am the boss, but what about those other parents who take time off work and may loose wages.
Gripe over!
At least I did some small jobs and we had a good day after clearing up the top floor. Dispite the interruptions, not sewing until 11.30 I still managed to finish £97 worth of work ready for collection and I left early as I had to take a blind over to my Mums.
Takings were great as people came collecting, and we had around £150 in when I left.
So this week has been a great start to the month. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
I have to take DGD to work with me again today as my daughter who usually has her every other week is unable to this time due to her partner's father has passed away and they need to tell their children etc so not a good time for them.
I shall take some DVDs and the kindle, and some distractions for her hopefully allowing me to get some work done.
I would like to get the nets done as they are in the middle of the top deck where I teach so ideally get them done between 10 and 1 when the first lesson is.
My staff has to go at 2 today so I will have to work in the shop the last two hours restricting the work I can do then.
So fingers crossed for a smooth day and DGD doesn't get too bored or demanding when I have customers etc.
My sister and her partner are over from France today so at some stage tomorrow after DGD brownies then I will have to find time to see them while they are at my Mums.
Looks like no peace for the wicked then!
Have a great weekend everyoneWhen I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Wow! I have had a record week. We banked £1231. That's a record. No wonder I am tired.
There is also a full week of work ahead of me.
But for now it's TV dinner and feet up, followed by a bath and bubbles in it. XWhen I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Well done Mooloo!!I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0
