Not quite a day going to plan.
The babysitter didn't turn up this morning, so a mad scrabble to get to the shop with DGD in tow.
She has had to have her breakfast here at the shop. Luckily Molly's daughter was working this morning, and she was able to keep DGD amused with a film on the laptop. I did the workshop on the Zipsand Buttonholes.
    Then wedding dress fitting.
The two children booked in for this afternoon have cancelled. Not so good.
The town had it's Farmers Market on today, but the town still seems quite quiet.
I have still work to do, although I would have liked to have better footfall passing by for the clothing section.
I now have just DGD and myself here until 4pm when I am due to close. So I am going to crack on with a few more jobs.

  • Before I had my roof replaced I used the vacuum bags to keep things dry in the loft Mooloo- worked really well. My favourite were from Wilkies and were 'good housekeeping' approved but a few weeks ago I bought some form the poundshop and am very suprised that they have stayed vacuumed. The trick is not to overfill so that the closure isn't strained .

I shall see what I can do to get more bags. It's not so easy to search out fabrics etc when all bagged up though. I certainly need to make changes and try to organise things better. I have to be more organised somehow. Life has mostly been Fire Fighting, and it's a bad habit to be in.

Do the new shelves you had put in your workroom at home help Mooloo? And do you have anything similar for storing fabrics in the shop?

Maybe just try to work through the stuff you have accessible, and then at the end of each week/month move stuff from home to the shop, and then bring more down from the loft to the workroom at home? That way you will eventually clear the backlog of fabric, and hopefully after that just keep stock levels at what you can easily store.

One thought for shifting some of it - could you actually sell some of the fabric as fabric? Either as it is, or maybe as patchwork pieces. Small bits could go bundled up for fabric, or you could even cut them up. Maybe talk to MG as I think she looked into doing patchwork kits at one point, so may have some patterns and ideas as to how to do them.

It might be a way to clear some of your stash, and make some money from your fabric without you actually having to do the sewing! I think you mentioned you're doing a cushion-making class, so some cushion kits might go down well ;)

The shelves in the workroom are very handy, but are completely full of my 60/70's stash! (:)
I think you are right about selling fabric off, possibly in kits, or fat quarters, certainly any cottons. But maybe I need to make up other kits out of the unusual fabrics etc.
I need to find more energy/time in my days to do things. I am at that Bunny in Headlights moment currently, not knowing which job I should be doing first, to actually achieve anything.
I think I need to have a decluttering friend to hold my hand so too speak, as I do things.
My first thoughts are having another change around at the workshop at the shop, and possibly measuring, pricing and labelling the fabrics I have already got there. On the Clothing side, I think I am going to have to try a rail of clothes outside the shop window, as a Sale Rail, weather permitting.
Although I am thinking Facebay etc could shift the older stock. I am conscious that it needs refreshing, but I don't have the funds spare to buy new stock until the old stock has gone.
I shall message MG and see if she had done anything further on kits. Thanks Greenbee.
Time to get ready for work, and school. Although DGD's boots are in the menders. He was supposed to do them Friday, but it wasn't ready on Saturday and he'd gone home. Letter to school needed then.

It's not the sewing jobs that I get bunny in the lights, I work through them methodically through the book that I check them in.
It is the other jobs like photography, accounts, stash busting, extra makes, housework, and those sort of things that need attention.

Don't worry your jobs will be done very soon.

    Morning.
Yesterday I felt really down hearted, and swamped. It crept into my dreams and has jaded my enthusiasm this morning. So I need a talk to my self about positivity etc.
I need to banish the "black Dog" that threatens to control my moods some how. Not sure exactly how mind you. I realise the days are getting longer and brighter, but they are bitterly cold, and not very inviting yet.
I have tried to wake up, and programme a positive day ahead, but my thoughts do still wonder to the negatives a bit. I mustn't let that train of thought take over again!
Yesterday I made a padded notice board with ribbons and buttons etc, and the trusty staple gun. Which made a change from inserting zips and shortening trousers, but time ways it was not cost effective really.
In the evening I had a housecall to make for a dress fitting to a local old folks home. ( which I nearly missed as my reminder didn't ping up on my phone, only went to email!).
I watched Broadchurch, and then went to bed.
Twin1 "borrowed £10" as she had to go on a course meaning her bus pass was not valid before 9am and she needed the bus fair. Why send her on these things is beyond me. Mentally she will never hold down a job, and physically who will employ her while she is pregnant anyway? The system is not very realistic, but her benefits will be stopped if she doesn't go. Pity they don't think about the daily £10 bus fare that she has to find out of her meagre money in the first place!
Did I tell you Dgd2 has Chicken Pox? Apparantly they are everywhere including under her eyelids and inside her mouth etc. So no Nursery for her. Luckily her other granny can help out, as I am too tied up with the shop.
Here is hoping for a better week, with a few more Clothes Sales on top of the Alterations. I need the extra to cover the part timers wages. Or it will be borrowing from my savings this month, and that would not be ideal, as that would strip my comfort zone away.
Time to get a move on.
Have a good day everyone, and here's to a fee more £ in the bank this week.
Oh it's my Dads 83rd Birthday today so a visit to see him later is in the mix.
