(So what flavour do little GPs come in? Pink or Blue?)
I refer back to post #1248 - Expensive
I hope no-one minds if I'm suitably vague about some points online, regretfully, it has to do with things going on in RL..... *sigh*

Ahh. I'm late to the party as usual but I'm very glad to see you back and with such wonderful news. Congratulations!
We all knew you had exemplary baking skills GP;I have to say I fully expected you to tell us you'd got through the heats of next year's bake-off! And then came the photo. You know how to do suspense...!
I have missed your posts and am so glad your worrying fatigue had this delightful cause!
Did your GP immediately diagnose correctly? And had you no idea? I can imagine how far your jaw must have dropped. Not to mention that of your dh as we must now call him.

I had no idea, but i did actually take a pregnancy test the day before my gp appt. This was because pregnancy was always on the list (usually at the bottom) of explanations for the symptoms i was getting, but i thought i would be ruling it out.........
So yes, it was a shock - but DH took it very well from the start - 100% supportive. Interestingly, i went through all my symptoms with the gp..... before saying that i'd taken the test and it was positive. They said that they thought i was pregnant, as apparently your face can give it away and in the first few months you can have a greyness (of all things!) around the mouth and nose.. which i apparently had - so it was going to be their first suggestion to me

Good Morning
Well I'vejust been reading Pippi's tales of bargainacious bounty from the local c0op and lovely free walks in gardens. Definitely what life is all aboutBut yellow-stickers are few and far between in the vicinity of Greying Towers. We could never get to the shops when the 'big' discounts are made, and frankly some of the shops on the high st take the persistently with their reductions - 60p for mouldy basil? I dunna think so mr marked up& 'spensives.
Still, it is about remembering to relish the small things. Baby Greying has been the recipient of a gift from a friend that is truly mind-blowing. It is a hand-crafted item, beautiful in its simplicity and yet complexity - and something that represents hours of toil by our friend. And yet it has been handed over freely (nicely wrapped too) and with grace. It's the sort of gift that becomes an instant heirloom - it really is that good - and it's the sort of thing that makes me realise how precious friendship is and how wonderful humans can be towards each other.
This mumbling ^ sort of ties in with my thoughts about how we may progress our life - and how we can remain true to our ideals and values, whilst at the same time raising another human being to be a part of society. Whilst before it didn't matter if our hair-brained schemes caused our teeth to drop out, clearly now we have to be concious of any impact on a minor who is not yet in a position to fend for themselves.
Currently, we are spending - or have spent - more money than we feel comfortable with. Some money has been wasted on unnecessary gimmickery (thankfully only 4 items that i can think of - 2 quite cheap, but 2 in the ££'s) - although that could have been ALOT worse. And some expenditure is ongoing. Certainly the food budget has been neglected - although we've not YET resorted to a takeaway :j (which you'll know is actually no big deal, given the poor standards of takeout around here!), due in part to purchasing vast quantities of fruit, some convenience food, but ultimately having to rely on 'local' shops, rather than doing the 'cheapest place for each particular item' type shopping that we incorporated into our lives previously.
It will not surprise you to know that we've already managed a couple of 'picnics' (one actually just hm cake & hot chocolate in a flask - but the other included sandwiches!) and we're continuing with our membership of the NT and visits will form the backbone of our days out.
organisation does seem to be the key, but as you know, little people sometimes rebel against being organised - best laid plans and all that.......
We have been gifted some useful 'preloved' items and there are more in the pipeline, for which we are grateful. I have nothing that 'matches' but Baby Greying has been bought some natty items of clothing that match. One of the most useful items we got given s/hand was a travelling changing mat. Really compact, but sooooo useful
Both Pippi and Cheery have talked about a 'patchwork' approah to life. Perhaps that needs to be our new mantra, weaving in a hotch-potch of new & old, friends and family, traditional & high-tec, pretty & functional, 'fluffy' & mundane. Baby Greying will still probably sue us in 20 yrs time, because they did not have all the *stuff* that marketeers claim ickle pickle babes need in their lives.. *sigh* :rotfl:
Ummm, mucho to ponder, whilst i gaze at Baby Greying asleep on me and contemplate how to get the circulation flowing in my arm again....:rotfl:

Hey there some lovely things read there and gifts which are heirlooms especially.
I know you'll find your own path. And it will be fabulous.
What my post didnt' say about the bargainous shopping was that 90% of what was on offer was too expensive to even consider. The pickings are becoming slimmer and slimmer.
I heard a while back that lots of the major supermarkets are signing up for foodshare initiatives and they offer their 'about to be going OOD' online to local charities each evening - it goes into a 'food cloud' and is distributed to folks and centres in need.
I wonder how much of an impact its having on the yellow sticker stuff. Whilst I know the bits we get are odds and sods - I guess this is tackling the stuff that is bulkier and maybe we don't see on the shop floor anyway?
We heard about it at work a while ago and I have wondered if all of a sudden there's a real change in yellow stickers.
Are we picnicing this weekend?
We've got family popping over and perhaps a few wee jaunts to the beach......there might even be a sandwich or too to cover in sand.
PS my children haven't yet sued us, but there is still time. For years they never knew clothes came from shops - only bin bags from friends.

Yes, i suspect the changing food waste policy will affect yellow stickers. I suspect there is more cachet in being seen to be supporting charity, rather than providing 'bargains' for customers (irrespective of whether they need those bargains to be able to afford to eat and use all that they buy). It also does not address the more fundamental supply chain issues and monopoly buying power of retailers. Tricky one.......
