I have always enjoyed reading your diary, your recipes were always an inspiration. If ever I made a tea of a few bits and pieces put together in a bowl, I always called it a Budda bowl, rightly or wrongly, but yours always looked great. Loved reading about your walks and bike rides, they conjured up visions of contentedness.
So huge, huge congratulations on your new marital and family status. I am sure that will only add to your continued contentedness and much happiness.0 -
Congratulations on both the new arrival and the marriage
enjoy this time together, it goes far too fast!

Our clothes also came in bin bags as does a majority of my little one's clothes. I never minded and neither do my children. (I don't think so anyway). Babies do not need much more than love and I know Baby Greying will get a lot of that so try not to worry too much.
We didn't have much growing up and some of my best memories come from not having much. For instance, my sister and I loved being allowed to play in the coal dust. We used to make "new coal" out of them and get really filthy and my mum actually encouraged us. Little did we know that the reason my mum allowed us to do it was because she didn't have enough money to buy more coal so she was trying to make what she had, last longer. Wow! Noticed your diary was busy again and hopped over to have a look. WOW WOW WOWZERS!! Fab and amazing news:D I was amazed because I thought...........well it dosent matter what I thought. Congrats to you both and welcome new family to world
Both my DDs where clothed and entertained with the best designer gear and best made toys............all second hand. The only things I bought new during their child hod was school uniform and shoes and as everything else they had was very cheap they could have the best shoes and the best school uniform that lasted and still looked new when finished with - which I sold of course!! In fact all their clothes and toys where re sold or passed on. I have a box of clothes which I will make into 'those quilts' for them one day and they kept a box each of their favourite toys.......for them to decide what to do with!
Local NCT GP? - fabulous sales. Can get everything you need and a whole load of sh!te you dont:mad: I still volunteer with our branch and at our recent sale I was asked my opinion on something that as far as I was concerned looked like and instrument of torture to imprison a child. I had to admit I didnt know what it was and gave them my full and frank opinion on it...along the lines of you can talk to your child and you can pick up your child and you can even lay your child on the floor and INTERACT with it. Your child will not bite - well not very hard in the first 6 months;) and your child ( and its teachers) will probably, in the future, appreciate you do this for them:D My tolerance levels are dropping like a stone with each passing year!
Starnac: love the coal dust story! I have a photo of my DD1 sitting on kitchen floor eating coal.........right next to the open under sink shelf surrounded by cupboards, drawers and appliances with no locks on and an Ag* belting out heat which was hot to touch. It was winter she would have been about 6 months old and had bare feet!! We took a picture because she had coal dust all over her face. There was nothing else to think about..............I can imagine now that the picture would be used in a y6 end of year stupid test 'circle all the hazards in this picture that these irresponsible parents have allowed their child to be surrounded by' Well DD1 has a first class degree now.....so I guess she survived unscathed;)
Sorry hijacked your thread a bit GP. Enjoy the 'new bun'. Savour every moment and make memories.......blink of an eye and time flies all too soon.Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

I did a long reply yesterday to starnac's lovely post, and promptly lost it due to my own stupidity - doh! However, the crux was the same as Igamogam's reply, in that it certainly isn't about the money and stuff, but it certainly is all about love, care and attention. Growing up we had very little - the difference being (compared to today), no-one else had much either. We didn't know we were *poor* (a relative term really), because none of our friends/people at school/relatives had significantly more than us.
I haven't got a £££'s pram for Baby Greying, we got a secondhand bargain, but it works, we go out and about in it (BG that is) and if it got nicked, i'd be annoyed, but it wouldn't be the end of the world. I was surprised - and yet not - to see *pram locks* for sale in b00Ts. Too right I'd want to lock it up if I'd invested a month's wages in a pram........
Well, we've got to go, we want to get out and about for some fresh air whilst we can.
Oh, just as an aside - I used the word 'piqued' on Pippi's thread. Anyone still in touch with Piquant in RL? I miss that lovely lady and her wicked sense of humour.....................

:jA hundred million congratulations dear GP, DH and BG!! Welcome to the world Baby Greying, you couldn't have chosen lovelier parents if you tried!!:A
I have missed you sooo much Greying and I was terribly afraid you were ill. It is so lovely to have you back with such wonderful news. I agree with Starnac et al. Babies do not have to be expensive at all in my experience. Lots of homemade food, lots of love and support, pick em up when they cry and avoid mobile phones for as long as you can! My DD and DS made do with very little materially but I've tried to make up with it with loads of love and they seem to be turning out okay so far.
I've re-subscribed now you are back with us and look forward to many more adventures with BG, DH and you!!
My son is getting married in three weeks so I guess there's news here too!
Take care and many many welcomes back!:):rotfl:With family, friends and pets (or any combination of them) life will be fine!
