Horrible company
My boiler has been pronounced as BER or beyond economical repair. My £15 a month (which is not an insurance but a service and so no ombudsman) gives me £215 worth of cover. If the claim exceeds this I get nothing. My recent claim for a leaking part comes to £280 so I get towards this £0
This is all clearly laid out in the terms and conditions that I agreed too of course, except that it completely obfuscated.
The law adds to this the term “reasonable”. Unfortunately I do not have the means to contest these terms and conditions and this company knows it.:(
They are also trying to flog new boiler refits as well with lots of pressure lies about safety reliability etc
Mr Lewis. :money: Please name and shame these people0 -
STAY AWAY FROM 24/7 BOILER COVER
I got a boiler and heating system breakdown cover from 24/7 about 3 months ago. Recently (Dec 2018) had a boiler breakdown which I paid the excess of £75. Having told 24/7 we had a 4 month old baby and 3-year old toddler, 24/7 confirmed that an engineer would come out after 48 hours - which is contrary to their claim that an engineer will be sent out same day for vulnerable customers. The customer service person I spoke to told me their obligation is to book the jobs with an engineer within 24 hours, regardless of when the engineer is able to come for the repair.
After a series of complaint, we finally had the engineer in after 36 hours. The engineer’s assessment was that we needed a valve and a pressure vessel changed - this he said was a small and inexpensive job - which he needed to book-in with the back office team.
I called the back office team and was told that I had to cover the whole cost of the parts and labour of £285. The reason being that my 3-year old boiler (which has no problem with the actual boiler/burner) which only needed two inexpensive parts was beyond ECONOMIC REPAIR! I was told that 24/7 only insured up to 60% of the value of the boiler. The lady I spoke to told me my boiler was 6 years old, but I insisted it was installed in our new build house 3 years ago. Apparently, they go by the “GC number” which tells them the year of manufacture. The rationale should be when the boiler was installed/operational, as you would expect with a mileage warranty on a car. That being said, the problem is not even with the boiler burner, but one of the ancillary systems.
24/7 have refused to repair the boiler and are trying to make me pay for the FULL cost. Theirs is definitely not a breakdown cover. You’re better off having an independent to check/repair your boiler for less than the total amount you would have paid them.0 -
Worst company ever - currently pursuing them through small claims court
We had boiler cover with this company, catalogue of disasters with them, after about a year of complaint after complaint (none of which they responded to), have decided to pursue them online through the small claims court. Of course they've refuted the claim with some un-truths, they've asked and we've agreed to go to mediation.I will fight this company until the day I die, will let you know how I get on.0 -
Dear animel71,
We note your frustration and your concerns in this matter and we assure you that this issue is of serious concern. Please note that when a customer logs a formal complaint using the online procedure, they are advised of an 8 week time period to which the complaint will be resolved. As you have mentioned, in your particular case, we have agreed to a mediation, this was in order for us to come to a final resolution to your issue.

This company has very dubious business practice. The treatment I have received from them is exactly the same as countless others have received. They take your money for months or years after year until you try to claim. Then they try to fob you off saying Boiler is BER etc - They even reduce the cost of boiler at the rate of 10% depreciation. I took independent advice and my engineer laughed at diagnosis of 247 engineer. This would cost no more than £100 to fix it and that includes the call out charge. I am taking this company to small claims court for my other outstanding complaint for which I have even stronger case and evidence. Perhaps someone will legal back ground can advise. It is worth taking them to small claims court individually or do a class action suite like in US. I am happy to contact a solicitor firm who might be happy to do the leg work on no claim no fee basis.
PS I have not written much about both my complaints as they are both outstanding with 247 but there are other factors and proofs. that I have not mentioned which make my case stronger.0 -
Also I would like to request the moderators to combine the threads. There are multiple threads for this company and that means people are not able to get clear idea of how bad this company is and how diabolical business practice they have. Oh and just for the boiler that they are deeming BER is is not even 5 years old. Its the one they have serviced as a part of the plan for last 2 years.0

Can anyone point me in the right direction please. I am happy to take them to small claims court or Report them to any other authorities. I will be more than happy to waste my time, effort, Money and energy just to ensure that no one else has to put up with this diabolical company and they can't scam anyone else.0

Apparently they might be creating their own reviews on Trustpilot to look good. They have like 5 times the number of reviews as British Gas? Found this lil' video explaining it. Guess it would explain a lot.

I am going to write to British Gas. It makes them look bad. I would like to ensure that this company is not able to continue its dubious practices.0
-
They will have more reviews than British Gas as they give incentives like 2 free months cover for a review. Even if the review is given within days of signing up and is based on nothing.0
