Need to catch up with the thread. Been a bit stressed / busy with family bereavement and family illness and have come on here to see everyone's ideas and take my mind off of it a bit.

Also if anyone has any ideas for elderly ladies that would be great. I'm really struggling as 2 of them have alzeimers and one has cancer. I was thinking hampers of snuggly things but it's difficult.

Obviously I don't know the exact details but when my dad was ill with cancer it seemed as if he felt the cold more (he lost a load of weight through the illness/chemo) and so snuggly things may well be the way to go (you could maybe make a no-sew blanket). Also little treats of sweets that they like maybe? And it depends on the person but my dad also suffered with cracked skin on his hands and feet due to the medication so I used to get him the hemp hand cream from the body shop, some foot cream, thick socks (those ones with the tog rating are pretty good I hear) and some plasters.

For elderly relatives I'm sure my mum used to help us pot up some bulbs so that they would flower in the spring, we also used to get 2 of my grandparents a decent sized bottle of their favourite tipple (one had brandy, one had rum) for their coffee as they only drank cheap stuff usually.
  • And for the person who was asking about american sweets etc - one of the poundshops (poundland I think) sells the individual cereal portions of lucky charms and they sell large packs of nerds too :)
  • Not done anything Christmas related these last few days and I'm really mad lol so I'm making up for it tonight by watching Elf 😃
  • Hi all, just a quick heads up to say that I've had a preview invite for the Next sale, which means they must be having a sale this weekend. Also means they must be trying to sell off stock ready for their Christmas stock so will be bringing their Christmas catalogue out soon!!

Hi I haven't read back yet so not sure if it's been said but 3 for 2 starts at Argos tomorrow on all toys until next Tuesday. I have my huge list ready to go collect tomorrow oh I love Xmas I bet my taxi driver doesn't though lol
Wishing everyone the best of luck for 2020 ☘️
  • Delurking again for a mo to mention the Elf's Enchanted Cottage Kit http://groceries.asda.com/asda-webstore/landing/home.shtml?cmpid=ahc-_-ghs-_-asdacom-_-hp-_-nav-_-ghs#/product/910001448059 which is out at Asd* now. Is exactly the same as the rocky road one last year and only £4.

Also my friend who works at Tes*o told me about these Mini Iced Christmas Cakes which are £2 each or 2 for £2 http://www.tesco.com/groceries/product/details/?id=284885427 would be good for a hamper or for an elderly person who might struggle with a big one.

BTW, if anyone sees any Monster High advent calendars, can you post it on here please. I know its early but they're creeping into stores.

I would like to join. Feeling so inspired by everyone preparation. It's been quite a year in our house. I've recently finished radiotherapy having been diagnosed with breast cancer on my anniversary in December.
Looking to make some homemade gifts for friends this year. Ideas would be gratefully received.
Bought my ds3 Tracy island. Thought best to get now as I think it'll be difficult to get later on.
Must dash now. Tea almost ready

Hello and welcome to the thread x
  • What a lovely thread! Definitely one to follow!

CupOfChai, I've always found a tin of luxury biscuits is much appreciated by older members of the family. There's so much choice now, and the tins are often really attractive especially at M&S. A lovely item for the older generation, who probably don't indulge themselves as often as they should. (I quite often buy myself a couple of tins, but in the sales afterwards!)

I've done quite well with my advance planning as I bought a lot of gifts, cards and wrap in the January sales, so for me this year it's just a case of filling the gaps. Just one more present to buy, I think. And then the hardest part will be to not spend any more! The tubs of chocs and sweets are £4 from tomorrow till 29th at Tesco but I daren't buy those yet!

  • Hi everyone

Hope everyone's preparations are going to plan. Went into town today and though there was loads of empty shelves there was no christmas stock out and still no catalogue boooo. Not happy.

Though I did get my Christmas fix in matalan. I've been stalking the stuff online but it's even better in the shop. Could have bought loads but need to wait til after payday. I was very impressed.

Currently trying to find a good deal on a ps4 and fifa 16 for dd. Scouring hotukdeals. Hopefully something will turn up.

  • Had a v chrimbo planning evening with the argos book. 342 starts tomorrow and I have reserved a bunch of stuff for the kidlets. However, as I'm v mse I had to go amazon first. Then Google it. Then put it in camelcamelcamel to see what the lowest price item had ever been to satisfy myself I was getting a bargain! Lol! The things we do!

So tomorrow is busy with jaunt to argos, Morries for chocs and poss sainsbobs to check out if any of their craft stuff for kids is reduced as some people got real bargains!

Last year at work me and friend set ourselves a challenge of finding the best mince pie. We tried loads. It was fabulous. Iceland posh ones won by the way. This year we are going to do stollen.....

Need to keep an eye out on mini bottles of vino for teacher gifts.
