Has anyone tried to make their own santa plates? Just wondered how it had gone, want 2 for the kids but they so expensive, ive read about using sharpie pens and baking it in the oven, may give it a try x
Don't do it!
Normal sharpie pens don't work you need oil based ones, which I've heard iffy results about... your best off buying porcelaine paints, I paint teacups and glasses, my favourites are pebeo paints, draw on pop in COLD oven heat to a temp I can't remember right now... bake for 40mins at that temperature, then turn off oven but leave them in over night or till cold, over night is easier... then they are washableeven dishwasher safe!!
! (I recommend to customers to handwash to prolong life, but my friend has tested a glass in the dishwasher and it survived
)
they are about £3 each or £10 - £15 for a pack of different colours.
edding ones are also supposed to be quite good I have some but I've not tested them yet... about same sort of price as pebeo come in packs of 6 for about £10
To be honest if it's purely price reasons for doing it yourself, I'd search etsy and facebook chances are you will find someone that does it cheaply. I considered it, but just so many people doing them wasn't worth the effort for me.
Hope that helpsx
fevertotell So sorry to hear about your little boy x

That reindeer is epic! And yes I noticed shops starting to have christmas aisles today Im so excited!! Mum was a bit worried Id get down this christmas as my ex fiance left me on the 29th December so left a sour taste last yr but Im more excited this year than Ive ever been!! Although I would of been a bit alarmed if card f@ctory were playing xmas music lol
I always worry about buying clothes as gifts for my niece and nephews incase I get the size wrong, I know their ages but niece is tall for her age and the two of them are tiny build, my youngest nephew is easy cos hes 1 and still got his baby pudge so I always just buy 18months + and if its too big I know he will grow into it and not care lol
Im a MASSIVE rugby fan - my poor family cant cope, I had to keep telling the kids to shhhhh lastnight (Im living at home with mum and dad but hopfully get good news about the apartment tomorrow!) Ive taken over the conservatory today for 9 hours of rugby and put a bet on my team (Ireland) to get to the final so fingers crossed but I have complete faith in them! :T
Lovely sentiment for your nana! Shoebox is a great idea - have you thought about doing a christmas care pack for the armed forces? And someone last yr had suggested buying extra advent calendars and giving to the local food bank so kids dont miss out where parents arent in the position to buy such luxuries...
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome back, pleased to be back and in a much better, less depressed, frame of mind!
I started my first christmas purchase today. Ive been holding off until I know we have a home but the GF is adamant she is moving on the 16th October so 1. we need to get this apartment at the viewing tomorrow (private landlord and she seems keen as she pushed the viewing from next wednesday to sunday! - so guessing this is a good thing?! we refuse to get our hopes up this time though so we keep looking to everyone else for reassurance lol)
Anyway Ive decided to make my mrs an American hamper - shes obsessed with America in general and especially american sweets etc - So far Ive got few different pakcets of reeces and i have lucky charms on my list to get this week and pack away. My mum suggested getting her a gumball machine, I think its a fab idea but as it will end up on show in our new home I dont want a plastic thing so on the look out for a smallish silver or chrome looking one lol. Any input into the American hamper much appreciated!!
Still reading through old posts so I get lots of my thread fix, Currently up to March inbetween watching the rugby lol - hope everyone is having a good weekend so far!
B&M sell Twinkies for £2.990 -
fevertotell I hope your wee one is ok and will pray for a speedy recovery!
Pookle The gumball machine research is what Im doing this morning, at least I have some headway with the hamper then!
springdreams A trip to New York is on our list, I originally wanted to go for my 30th but not sure we can wait another 4 years so it may happen sooner!! I will look at asda thanks! We dont have one locally but there are a few in Belfast so will see if my mum will take me!
Smooch Thanks I will have a look! Thats where I got her reeces stuff yesterday! I love that place!
To those who mentioned the rugby - the multi quote button didnt seem to work so yes I am thrilled with the result of the first match, near lost my voice by the half time whistle so had to calm myself lol!
Very nervous today, apartment viewing at 3pm and this is "the one" for us. Ive made that clear to the landlady on the phone in the week and she knows how keen we are so fingers crossed we get an answer today as to whether its ours or not.....Ive withdrawn the deposit money so keeping positive. My and the GF didnt sleep much lastnight, too nervous after our last attempt at an aparment falling through so as much as we want to get excited we wont allow ourselves!!
Not much else going on today - I cleared out my room yesterday so everything is ready to go providing we get the green light, Ive loads of boxes in my grandmas house frm last year but I wont even look at sorting them til I know im moving! IVe to go to tescos later and get a few bits for my 3 day detox again starting tomorrow (its a diet we do in work, my managers idea about suppoerting me in my weight loss - decent menu for 3 days of the week then eat whatever you want as long as its healthy for the other 4!)
Other than that Im kind of stuck and cant buy anything else because my other silly bank was closed yesterday to withdraw money for deposit so Ive had to empty my other account!
Hope everyone has a good day!Life is what you make it.0 -
Hi all, I'm still on the iPad which I find a pain so can't comment on everything I'd like to. Just popping in to say I'm still reading, we've stopped off for a couple of nights at the parents-in-law on the way back from hols.
fevertotell I'm so sorry to hear your DS is so poorly, sending you lots of hugs, positive vibes and good wishes and I really hope it doesn't take long for him to recover.
freespirit wow I can't believe you were only a lurker on 'Let it Snow' - it feels like you've been around since the beginning!
I can't remember who mentioned it but I did a Santa plate at a paint your own pottery place last year, it cost £10. It is pricey, but I'm happy with my original plate and hopefully it'll be in the family for years!0 -
Was in Wilkos yesterday and noticed that they had some men's shower gels on offer for 95 pence each - http://www.wilko.com/men/bath-shower-and-soap/icat/mens-bath-shower-soap
Some men's body sprays also on offer - http://www.wilko.com/men/deodrants-and-body-sprays/icat/mens-deodrant-body-sprays
Might be ideal for stocking fillers!A good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot, and realise how blessed you are.

Morning everyone, i was so tired last night i forgot to post :rotfl:bought all my mincemeat ingredients yesterday but tbh im not sure if i will do my own anymore it came to £13 not inc the cherry brandy as i already had that :eek: that is not mse in my book!!! Its a shame because i love baking, but when you can buy boxes for a couple of quid and plus i cant eat that many because of my diet so it would save loads!! Hi all, I have been a lurker for a while now and love this Christmas thread. Due to living with a disability I have to start shopping very early as i need to minimise stress. I have all my Christmas cards sorted, mostly bought from online card shops. I have about 7 people to buy for, oh not forgetting my dog!:) I am thinking of doing a garden hamper for my grandad. Just been to wilko and bought some cast iron garden hooks to go in the hamper. They were reduced so worked out 75p each. Can't wait for more Christmas bits to come into the shops so I can do some more shopping. Take care everyone!£2 savers club 2025 #2= £320

Afternoon all.
Not much Christmassy going on here I'm afraid except a friend posted a pic of the range Xmas dept. Think I will hold off a visit until next month. It's too mild at mo lol!
I have however started a Xmas dinner list. It's only the 4 of us and no one is keen on turkey and have requested lamb so will watch out for legs going on offer. Sainsburys did half price last year. I bought 2 and they were lovely!

Hi Peppa - If it's not too embarrassing an effort, I will definitely post a pic.
Free - I am not allowed to look around Hobbycraft. I've only just given away a massive stash of craft bits that I never use. I get a bit carried away.
Also, my cats never
appreciate their advent calendars - way too fussy. Hope your dog is grateful
Fevertotell - Sorry about your little boy. Hope all goes well and welcome back.
Hi Treasurequeen - welcome! The gardening hamper sounds great.0 -
Operation Christmas Presents has started this weekend. I've been having a mad decluttering sessions and plan to have an Ebay/Gumtree session tonight.
I've set myself a goal of making £400 extra by Christmas in order to buy the children their DS's as I still want there to be a HUGE pile of presentsso I want to earn this money over and above. My children so deserve it, they're such good children and never ask for much but have had to put up with a lot in the past year (both my husband and I were made redundant last year on the same day ) and they've been a bit neglected over the summer whilst I've been working and not moaned once.
I've just discovered a forgotten £100 in Paypal and I've got £100 in Quidco so I'm halfway there!0
