Loving all the Christmas stuff on the Matalan website, they have some great stocking fillers and decorative things, making me feel very festive! :xmastree:
  • Hi MoneyMission - I've taken a look at the Matalan Christmas selection and really like the look of the cosmetic crackers which seem good value. The night in hamper sounds really good :)

If anyone is looking for a children's Christmas book, I've pre ordered A boy called Christmas which is available to pre order from lots of shops, this was just the first link that came up
It says for ages 7 - 9 but I've actually ordered mine as a family gift for my sister, brother in law and 2 kids (4 and 6) for them to read together along with the National Trust membership I will be buying them.

Me and OH have just had the Christmas chat and have agreed on getting each other a stocking with gifts up to £70 in total so I can start looking for him now.
  • Hello everyone
feisty resting is hard but you will be glad you did. Sounds like the house situation is stressfull not good when you have been misinformed. Thanks for the candle link may give it a go.
kaya good luck with the new job and with the resignation. It will be worth it!
cherry Im loving the etsy finds may have to order some for hampers.

Hello to all newbies and hugs and love to anyone ive missed or needs it.

Not much Christmassy done this week just trying to fine tune ideas so I can figure out where I need to go. My little sister has said she wants football stuff especially Barcelona fc so need to figure out where to find that. I really want the shops to start having there gifts in as I love browsing them. The matalan stuff had me wanting it all!!.
Anyway Im gonna go back to my relaxing day off which is much needed
    Xx

Sports Direct will have the football stuff. Be warned though that a genuine shirt for Barcelona will set you back around £55 - £60.

Welcome Aloofdragon and Canhan - lovely to have all these new people to join in the Christmas mania.

Aloofdragon, I think what Salmagundi said is really sensible and a good way to handle things. Hope you have a fabulous time if you go.

Feisty, please don't feel guilty - grateful yes but guilty no. My sister, my DH and I did most of the decorating at DD's new house (along with my mum who's 80 lol). We did it because we wanted to help and to save DD some stress so seeing DD and her little family happily settled in their own clean and decorated house is all the reward we need. I'm sure your inlaws are doing this for the same reasons and will feel as happy as we do.

Was just thinking about going to bed last night when I saw something out of the corner of my eye and a huge (well big-ish) spider scuttled across the floor and under the sofa. I did what any sane person would do and screamed a fair bit. Fortunately while I was working out how I could go to bed not knowing where it was it ran back out again and DH sprinted across the room and got it and put it outside. Big relief but tonight while typing I'm still looking out just in case there's another one. I really am a pathetic wuss - don't know how I managed when I was on my own with the girls lol!

Get some Spider Ex off of Amazon. It is a bit pricey and smells a bit like WD40, but does the job.

  • Greetings from the Peak District! We're staying up here in a lovely cottage this week and it is lovely but brrr is it cold! Well we've only been on holiday a couple of days and I've already done some Christmas shopping! I got some food bits from B&M for my aunties food hamper, some personalised Christmas cards from the Card Factory and a lovely Disney Christmas sing-a-long book with cd and stickers for £4 from The Works for our nephew. DH keeps reminding me that we didn't have any room in the car on the way up here let alone taking stuff back! :p I always seem to find bits and bobs when we're on holiday. I popped into Poundworld today and they had some lovely boxes of Cadburys biscuits that would be perfect for Christmas and Frozen advent calendars for anyone that might be looking.

Fiesty it does sound like you've been overdoing it! You must listen to your body and rest. I understand you feeling guilty about not helping but they wouldn't do it if they didn't want to. I used to feel that way about my parents-in-law but I've come to learn that they like and want to help us. I hope you feel better soon. It's a shame that you've encountered some problems with the new house, but I don't see why they wouldn't let you get on with installing a new kitchen and bathroom - it's in their interests too!

newthrift I hope you had a wonderful day and that you enjoyed every minute! xx

I would like to comment on more but we've only got DH's iPad here and it starts to hurt my hand after a while! I might try and browse Matalan's Christmas shop soon after all the chatter about it! :D

Hope to check in again soon! xx
  • Oops just realised I said Poundworld in my previous post, I meant Poundland. x

Hi not been on in a while I've bought a fair few presents now waiting for the Argos 3 for 2 does anyone know when it starts?

    Decided to have a December 1st hamper for my kids this year as well as he normal Xmas eve hamper I was thinking of putting in the December 1st hamper;
Xmas bedding, advent calendars, tub of sweets, a letter to Santa. Can anyone think of anything else they'd need before their Xmas eve hamper?

I'm looking forward to Xmas loads more this year because both my kids will know what is happening they are 4 in nov and 2 years old

    Happy Xmas planning all x

If you're in any way craft how about some craft bits for your kids to 'make' Christmas cards with for the family?
  • Thank you all for your lovely comments, it has helped me feel much better about the situation. My mum and SD are coming to help Thursday and bizarrely having them shoulder some of the burden has eased the guilt? I need to learn to ask and accept help lol.

You are all so organised it's making me blush! I am quite inspired to maybe wrap a few bits that I purchased in August, but not sure if it's MSE as it means buying more tags and wrap as everything is in storage, doh!

Now after all this Matalan talk, I am off for a browse!

I've preordered this too - Matt Haig is a fabulous author! I bought mine for my mum, who is just a shade over the 7-9 age range ;)
