  • After saying a few days ago that I don't tend to go to Home Bargains, I popped in there today. A friend of mine posted on Facebook that they had those mason jar glasses back in stock. They were selling them a few months ago & very quickly sold out, so as soon as I saw her message I took my lunch break to go and get some. They are mason jars with a handle & a lid, with a hole in the lid for a straw. So my plan is I am going to make it in to a Christmas eve gift for my girls and a Christmas gift for my niece. I am going to put a sachet of hot chocolate in each one, some small marshmallows, I'm going to make a biscuit to go in it & maybe a nice Christmas designed teaspoon if I can find any :)

It seems that more people than I realise are looking forward to Christmas this year. My sister messaged me about something the other day that she was going to book for just before Christmas and then somebody in work was talking about Christmas yesterday.

Hello All, checking back in now, the funeral has been and gone and HDD and family are working on getting on with life. It's tough going for them but I know they'll be ok. Thank you everyone for your kind words and support.

Welcome to the thread Karrie - it's Christmas all the way on here.

Moneymission I agree about the Next sale - I don't buy much in there now although occasionally they have a bargain. Ooh, hope you have a fab weekend away too.

Hope the decorating is finished MrsI and you're relaxing with something yummy.

Hope everyone is ok and that you're feeling better Free. Hope you're properly on the mend Feisty - make the most of being pampered for a while if you can.

I need to find something I want in M&S. I did our house insurance direct with one of the big companies this year (after comparing prices online of course) and got £100 of M&S vouchers plus the insurance was only about £10 cheaper than I would have paid another company. We spent some on food but I've got £75 left. Unfortunately I don't really like their stuff so might do Christmas food and treats with the rest.

On the pressie front, one of my DDs has become infatuated with all things vintage and when I was in HB the other day they had a lovely little vintage style glass jar with lid and some really nice glass candlesticks so I bought two candlesticks and a jar to put away for her birthday (early December). I would have done them for Christmas but we're on our £10 per person and I've already got most of hers. I'm doing my best not to use them myself actually lol.
It's the most wonderful timeof the year :

Sorry, forgot to say good idea getting the Shrek tickets Mojo, January can be so flat. DD asked me if I wanted to go and see Annie with her and DGD. I went last year when we saw The Snowman but I actually hate Annie with a passion so I'm afraid I declined this time. I feel guilty but the thought of Annie and no off switch is just too horrible lol.

Evening everyone, my last day of the week looking after Thumper and it was so horrible and close today, i kept worrying was he too hot, was he now cold :o we were supposed to have storms tonight but nothing??? I paid all the bills today for the month, so just food and electric to budget for, i overspent a bit yesterday while we were out, not major but an outfit in the F & F sale in Tesco for Thumper, some new towels, home safety bits before Thumper is moving around etc and it soon adds up so i will try and skimp on the food bill for a couple of weeks to make up for this :D I forgot to say when i bought the towels the lovely lady gave me a 20 % discount but she said something funny "dont forget to give the towels a good wash before you use them" i just said oh yes i will, but afterwards i wondered why, do any of you lovelies know why she would have said that?

MONEYMISSION i will tell DD1 you are really pleased with the Fire Sticks, hers came today but she has gone out to a friends for dinner, i had to cancel our sky a couple of years ago i was really upset (i do like my tv) but we have amazon prime and catch up tv and it does us just fine, there is always a film or a new tv series to watch although DD1 is thinking of changing to netflix, when i think we were paying nearly £90 a month at one point for sky i cant believe what a waste of money it was, being on here really does make you think what is worth spending on and what you get sucked into paying because its the norm! The mason jars in HB are lovely, i was tempted myself, what a lovely idea for them for christmas eve. That is awful about Next, what a massive pita to get on early to be told its out of stock! Hope you have a lovely weekend away :)

MOJOWORKING oh how exciting, she will love them both!

PEPPAPIG haha that made me giggle about Annie :rotfl::rotfl:glad to see you back, and i am glad you all got through the funeral, it must have been very emotional for you all. The candlesticks and glass jar sound lovely, i dont remember seeing them in our branch. My back is a lot better thankyou, i also have M&S gift card and am keeping it for christmas food, i am not really a regular shopper there, only if there is a bargain :D

Freespirit Regarding the towels, the only things that I can think of would be: to remove some of the dye, or to make the towels softer before use as sometimes using brand new towels might irritate some people's skin. :) Good idea to purchase the home safety bits for Thumper in advance as you might need them sooner than you think as children grow up so fast! :D

    Hi All,

Its been over 12 months since I have posted but I do try to keep up to date with everybody. Not sure if you remember me? I have got the back problem! Had 2 operations and have now got permanent nerve damage and in constant pain so pain meds are now my best friends lol xx

Just wanted to say that throughout the year I have read your christmas plans, ideas and best practices. Also lifes up and downs and I can honestly say that it feels like a real close knit family on here. It makes a refreshing change and I would like to say a big THANK YOU to you all.:T

On the christmas front I have already started - We only buy for the kids with extended family so 3 out of the 6 are already done. Started to buy a few stocking fillers for my 5yr old dd. My soon to be 13yr old ds is more difficult as his birthday is october so need to start planning for both x

Freespirit - I would recommend your daughter to switch to Netflix, it is great. There is so much choice on there & the cheapest package is only £5.99 per month so well worth it. Sky is very expensive & we are going to cut our package down a lot. We have been with Sky for a long time & it annoys me that none of their offers are aimed at existing customers, loyalty counts for nothing!

My mum has always washed new towels. I think it's because with new towels the dye sometimes runs on first use. Also maybe they are stored in a warehouse for a while, so might be a bit dusty. I don't know the exact reason but I know a few people who do it, so I wouldn't be too worried if I were you :rotfl:

3forholidays - 3000 competitions, wow!! How do you do it all? I sometimes enter comps but have never won anything so feel a bit deflated with it all to be honest. I used to work with somebody who was very successful with her winnings, she won holidays, years worth of chocolates, coffee etc, tickets for concerts, it was crazy the amount of stuff she'd won over the years.

04624181 - I'm new so wouldn't remember you, but hello anyway. Doesn't sound good with the nerve damage, I hope the pain is manageable with the meds, although I bet you'd just prefer not to have the pain at all! Keep coming back here to check in & update everybody on your Christmas shopping. I have also started & people in work think I'm mad, but they won't be thinking that when they're rushing around in December and skint in January, while I'll be all relaxed with everything in order.

Peppa - I had a similar deal last year so had £100 vouchers for M&S. I kept them & then bought some of their yummy party food for Christmas Eve, we didn't have a party but it was nice to just have something easy & enjoyable for the 4 of us without having to worry about cooking anything too extravagant. I didn't spend £100 on food though! I also bought my stepmums Christmas present with it.

Mojo - January is a horrible month. It's wet, miserable & seems to go on forever! I think I might follow your lead and book something that we can look forward to. Time to get my thinking cap on :)
