Or how to lose half a stone in 30 seconds.......

Ok back to the mirror .

Again what do you see, chicken head, widows hump, sticky out tummy, rounded shoulders or worse still shoulders round your ears.

Now stand up,straight and tall, head up , shoulders back and down, pull that tummy in and tuck your tail end in.

    Now what do you see......

    Isn't that better.

You look instantly taller and slimmer.

Take a tip from all those cat walk celebs and watch how they move and pose.

Here's a great tip for when you need to have your photo.taken

Never stand head on to the camera. Always stand slightly sideways with one leg slightly forward and most of the weight on the back leg.

So ladies the golden rule here is POSTURE.

The regulars on here know that I often nag you, ever so gently about this. I will, out of the blue, remind you about posture.

Practise good posture whenever you can, whenever you think about it, whenever your remember.

Next time you stand in a supermarket queue take a good look at everyone around you. I guarantee you will be shocked at how people slouch and slump their way through life.

So practice, practice, practice. standing or sitting, lifting etc Be mindful of your posture.

Look at the great beauties and watch how they move. Angelina Jolie is a fantastic role model here. She moves so gracefully. She stands ramrod straight and looks fantastic.

My father is ex military and at 88 he is still tall and straight without the "elderly stoop" you so offen see. He also has a good strong back and has only this year started to get any kind of back pain.

Stand tall and straight, you will look younger and you might even protect your back.

    Finally, try this experiment.

Next time you are walking down the street or in a shop try walking with a slouch, head down and slumped forward Nd see how you are treated.

Now straighten up, head and shoulders back and see what happens.....

I guarantee you people will start to notice you, they will automatically start to treat you with a bit more respect and courtesy.

    Don't believe me.?

Then try and watch some footage of great apes and watch how the leader behaves, now he stands taller and straighter, how he puffs out his chest.

Watch any alpha male, human or ape, and they all do the same. we are no different from the apes.

From now on stand tall and straight and walk proud. Your confidence will grow and you will be treated with more respect.

WW - how lovely to hear from you.

Well done on the promotion, you have worked so hard and deserve your reward.

As for the the Fling, then I agree we could perhaps promote him too He is now officially "the boyfriend".:D

Stray cat has just snuck into my room and plonked himself on my bed - this was the cat who was supposed to stay outside .......

I suppose I ought to get up and start the day. I will do after ds2 has bought me my morning coffee.

He spoils me, at this rate I won't want to move out.

    Morning All

well my aim for fabulosity has taken a bit of a knock as my aim for a good night's sleep after all my gentle buffing and pampering, went down the plughole. I tossed and turned all night, and feel like a wet dishcloth this morning, and am slouching at my kitchen table..

...but then something unexpectedly nice has happened that has boosted my self esteem - "my" Singlies thread on OS is in the top 10 viewed. How lovely! :D

Ok...off to practice standing tall, while I scramble some eggs for breakfast.

Happy New Year to you all. We Do bloomin deserve it!

    Happy New Year everyone!!!:A

Just wanted to post quickly. LL is so right about posture. Every time I read one of her posts on the subject I feel myself sitting up straight. I find that high heels help too mouse. I find as soon as I put heels on, my posture improves hugely and then I feel slimmer and much more confident.

Lolo, I think the thread is about finding that motivation. As LL said, it's not just about weightloss or even fabbing. It's about a state of mind. Feeling like a bag lady is incredibly demotivating and it's that we need to fight our way out of. It's not easy and baby steps help. I find that the more things I can do regularly so that they become routine the better. And be kind to yourself.:)

Thanks for the Groupon reminder silva. It's a good way of having treatments cheaply and trying out local salons. I don't use the hair ones as I'm dedicated to my particular hairdresser but I have had many facials, nails and massages done and thoroughly enjoyed them. There should be a lot around in the coming weeks as salons try to promote business in the quiet months. Sometimes there are cheap gym passes available too. They're good even if you just use them for a swim and sauna.;)

Changing into wellies made me laugh ruby! I suppose if they were your glamorous, tartan ones that's OK!:rotfl:

You could try using face creams for knees, heels, hands and elbows Hepburn. Using up a stash is a good idea but if it's really causing a reaction then it'll have to go. I need to buy an intensive conditioner as I finished off my last tub. I think that's good for hair every couple of weeks.

We had a quiet night in last night. Stayed up for the fireworks but we're both still very tired after the cold/chest bug. Other than buying milk I've not done a shop since Christmas, managing from the freezer and cupboards. I've just put a SC of savoury mince on for tomorrow and have HM burgers from freezer for later. Tomorrow I'm doing my meal plan for the coming week so will start back properly on my healthy eating.

So much for my quick post?? Have a good day all. We're off to football so I'll get some fresh air at least. A win would be a bonus!;)
  • Happy New Year everyone.

Thank you Lessonlearned for the post about maintaining a good posture. I will add it to my aims for 2015.

My aims for the year are:

To get to my target weight (I'm sure I'll recognise it when I get close)
To eat healthily and not waste food.
To start and maintain an exercise programme - pilates, zumba and weights
    To maintain good posture
To spend more time exercising outdoors - walking and perhaps cycling or I may apply for an allotment.
To have a good grooming routine - this includes skin, hair, nails, makeup and everything else.
    To dress well.

I will do it if I take baby steps and persevere.

Good like to everyone else with their plans for the year.

OOooh LL - you must have seen me crouched over my 'puter. I have sat up & straightened my shoulders - honest!
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
  • Hello everyone and Happy New Year to you all! :)

This is my first ever post here on MSE - I thought it was about time I joined, I seem to lurk here a lot!

May I please join in? This thread sounds great! I had my own frump to fabulous ideas, but it'd be wonderful to share the journey with like minded people.

I joined Slimming World last year and have lost nearly 2st out of my original 5st target. But I've overdone it this Christmas, and I will be getting 100% on track again tomorrow, after tonight's weigh in. So one aim is to get to my first target of 5st off!

Second, I want to make an overall effort with my appearance, as I look (and sometimes feel!) way older. I've just turned 26, I should be making the most of my appearance, bothering with make up daily, washing hair more regularly, using more lotions and potions etc. Most of the time my hair is just greasy and tied up, I only wear lip balm and I look tired/washed out. So I'm going to wear a bit more make up daily, wear hair down more often, generally care about myself more and make an effort. Also maybe get some nicer clothes that aren't black! I live in black!

I'd also like to get a little bit fitter - I should start going swimming again, and maybe look for another fun, cheap activity. I might start jogging!

Also I need to have a massive sort out of all my clothes, shoes, bags, make up etc because I have so much I don't even use!

And lastly, drink more tea, especially green tea - at least one cup a day.
I think that's about it for now. I wish everyone good luck for their 2015 aims - I'm going to paint my nails and moisturise to start my year off properly! :)

Good afternoon everyone, happy new year, heres to a truly fab 2015.

We didn't go out last night but still didn't get to sleep til well gone 3 as our lovely neighbours had a party and the music was blaring til gone 2. Oh well its only one night, but I hope they have some awful hangovers today.

2015 is going to be my year, I spent 2013, being knocked off my feet, with the deaths of my mum, uncle and nan and also finding out I had a incurable brain condition and needed brain surgery to relieve some of the symptoms, it was a success thankfully. So 2014 was all about picking myself up and learning to live again.

Saying this though I'm not starting until I go back to work on Monday as its seems as good aday as any other to start.

    Good luck everyone xx

    Happy New Year _party_

We did manage out last night after a mini panic over what to wear, in the end I settled on a new dress that arrived yesterday. My makeup however went a bit wrong and I ended up a bit more pantomime dame than glamerous gal :rotfl:

There were lots of sugar laden foods and cheese consumed with a couple of glasses of bubbly too which was lovely. Today has been a day of less than healthy eating too however everything is in place for a healthy lifestyle as of tomorrow :D

I even managed to remove my makeup and slather on moisturiser before going to sleep so clearly I am sticking to good habits in some areas ;). Once the festive season is over it will be easier to get back into my routine of healthy eating and exercise so I am not going to be too hard on myself for my indulgencies over the holidays.

Today I have been wokring my way through an unpleasant task that has been my elephant in the room for a few weeks now. I can't say it has been fun however I am feeling lighter now that it is nearly done. As a reward for finishing I have promised myself an indulgent night of pampering which I am really looking forward to :D
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!
